Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Firlo's Tale

"This morning, I went out of the village to hunt for the big frogs that live on the marshy ground along the river, as you probably know their meat is very delicious, it makes your mouth water.

So, I walked along the river, and suddenly I see a huge frog, so big I have never seen before. I thought we'd have quite a treat at home. I started to chase it, but it was running away into the forest. I shot it with my bow, but it was very jumpy, and I didn't manage to hunt it.

As I followed her further and looked for a chance to attack her with my dagger, I came across the corpse of Eren, just like this one, only tiny. I thought it was good enough, and since I was unlikely to be able to hunt that mean frog.

When I was cutting meat to take it with me, this ugly monster attacked me here. But you know... I'm not just anyone, I run almost as fast as the adults in my village" – Firlo began to boast – "I ran through the forest, and when I had no strength left, I climbed a tree. Unfortunately, I didn't have any more arrows, if it wasn't for that, I wouldn't need help at all"

"Uh, sure, of course," Jason replied. "I'm looking for a friend, maybe you haven't seen a boy my age, a little shorter and chubbier?

"No, I haven't seen anyone like that, but maybe if you split up, he managed to get to my village, it wouldn't hurt to check" – Firlo replied cheekily, apparently hoping for an escort home – "You look terribly strange... you are terribly skinny, do you come from some poor family? You don't know how to hunt? And what kind of insects are these, they listen to you? Do you know that you have something on your shoulder all the time? Firlo asked a barrage of questions, apparently emboldened by Jason's behavior.

"Yes, I know, I can command them, and the raven is a well-trained pet," Jason replied, avoiding answering the questions. He didn't know how much he could trust the little boy, he didn't seem intelligent enough to make use of this information, but Jason wasn't sure how common abilities like his were

"Really? Aren't you lying? Tell them to do something! Let them fly in circles!" shouted Firlo excitedly, apparently believing that they were ordinary pets.

"You don't seem like you've ever seen anything like this"

"There are no mages in our region, mages are said to live in the north, I've heard some stories about them, but never about someone who could command the animals."

"Sure, and what do the people in your village actually do," he tried to get some information from Firlo.

"You know, normally, we hunt in the woods, we trade a little bit what we find. You should take this Eren's fangs, they are quite valuable by the way"

"Sure, I understand. Maybe you don't have something I can cut them out with?"

"Maybe my knife will do," Firlo replied as he threw himself into work. In a few minutes, neatly operating the knife, he cut out the fangs, finally hitting them at the base with the largest stone he could find to separate them from the jaw. "Please. – " he replied, giving eren's fangs to Jason.

The summoner didn't think much about it and put it in his system's inventory.

"Aaaaaah, what did you do with them? You know, they are really valuable! About 2 silver coins!" – Jason realized that putting things in the system is not common, even for this strange place.

"Nothing, I hid them in my belt," he stretched out, his hand materializing the fangs from his equipment in it.

"Phew, I already thought you lost it or something, then all this trip of mine would have been for nothing, at least you have something as a thank you for your help. Listen, wouldn't you mind if we took some of the meat with us? These Erens are not very tasty, but it would be a shame to leave all this meat here." – said Firlo hopefully.

"Sure, no problem, we should both be able to take quite a lot, but I don't know if this meat isn't poisoned by my wasps," Jason said regretfully.

"Don't be afraid, we often use poisoned arrows, you just need to use the right herbs and you won't have diarrhea!" – the boy replied.

Jason began to wonder if he was immune to the venom and abilities of his summons. Yesterday he tried to pick out the part of Eren that wasn't hurt by wasps, and he didn't feel any effects from the poisoning.

"Great, let's take as much as possible with us" – The boys got to work. They cut off one hind leg, because the hind legs had the most meat on them, and it was also the most comfortable to carry with them.

The boys were not able to carry it, but Firlo quickly found a plant from which he made a makeshift and very strong rope. He tied his leg so that both of them could drag it on the ground. The leg probably weighed 70-80 kilograms, but Jason noticed that it was pulled extremely lightly, thanks to Firlo, who, despite his young age, seemed to be much stronger physically than Jason and he was the one who bore the main burden of pulling their prey.

Along the way, Jason decided to assign more stat points. He continued his strategy of awarding points and assigned all of them as follows.

Strength: 3 --> 4

Dexterity: 4 --> 5

Intelligence: 6 --> 8

Vitality: 3 --> 4

Hit points: 11 --> 13

Mana: 15 --> 19

He also decided to strengthen his ability to summon the raven, because he was happy with how his wasps fared during the last fight. They were clearly more resistant, understood more commands, and their venom was much stronger.

As soon as he added one skill point to summon a raven, he heard in his mind:

"At last! I couldn't wait to hear from you, Summoner."
