It was peaceful for the beginning of the night as usual, except I had a woman in my bed. Amelia, the girl who went through the same trauma as me recently.
I can't say that it was the easiest thing to get through but we made it through regardless. I've got to travel with her for awhile, at least until we figure out who the group is behind everything that happened.
It would be stupid if we tried to continue our lives without investigating this group since their objective is still a mystery. The only thing that's obvious, is that they wanted to kill Amelia and her family.
He shakes his head as he looks up at the ceiling. I need to get stronger or else I won't be able to stop these people. Would it be possible for me to use magic or maybe there's some sort of dormant power inside of me.
I'm not entirely sure what the right path is for me to take in discovering my magic capabilities or even whatever power that resides inside me.
A woman's voice echoes. "You need to make a choice Yori. What power to you yearn for? That potential is yours to decide, just like any other person in the world." The softness of her voice echoes around him.
The magic I read about varies quite a bit in what kinds there are and how much some people can use. I've got no idea what I want to be able to use or what the best choice is to go with.
I've been all about stealth and I didn't really have to fight that much yet so what exactly is the best magic or even the best power for me to yearn for?
In this world, power or even magic are choices that the person can make when they are ready. Of course not everyone can have powerful gifts but sometimes they can get lucky enough to get them.
The gods of the world let the people choose and will deem the strength of each choice on a lot of different factors. Magic can be used by everyone but there are variants that are extremely hard to learn or that require sacrifices to achieve.
Powers are not given to everyone, it is a choice that has to be agreed upon by the gods. Most will look at the integrity of the person or by the good they've done in their lives.
Now most might think that if that was true, why do vile, evil, people get them. That's because not all gods think the same and some people pray to the chaotic gods and goddesses of the world.
Yori is now the next one to have to make that choice. There is more people than him who have choices to make but right now it's him who matters most.
Shuffling in the bed next to him, Amelia wakes up. "What are you doing up?" She asks with a sleepy tone in her voice.
"Honestly just had some stuff on my mind. That's all." Artemis answers while keeping his eyes on the ceiling.
I didn't want to tell her too much right now since she was also keeping secrets from me too. I'll tell her more as she starts to open up to me about the stuff she knows as well.
She moves a bit closer and looks up at the ceiling while laying next to him. "As long as you're okay. I know life hasn't exactly been the best for you. I've watched you for awhile since I could actually look out the windows." Amelia says with a kind tone in her voice.
Most people would think it was creepy if our roles were reversed right? I think it's kind of interesting that she's been watching over me like this.
He turns his gaze towards her. "What's so special about me anyway?" Artemis questions with a curious expression on his face.
"There's just something about you that's always caught my eye, I can't quite place my finger on it but I have no regrets about my choices." Amelia responds with a smile on her face.
If she didn't pick me to come up and do that pact with her, I would be dead. At least that's the conclusion I've come to with everything that's happened.
I'm a protector after everything so maybe just maybe, the shadows could benefit me in some way. Lurking in them was already easy but what if I had more ways to utilize them or something with them.
But that kind of magic is also something I feel like a lot of people would go with if given the opportunity to do so. Shit it's not easy to make a choice on this kind of thing.
"We're both 16, you know what that means?" Amelia asks with a more serious tone in her voice.
She completely interrupted my thoughts and made me wonder why she was asking this. "What?" Artemis responds back with a bit of confusion in his voice.
"We're at the age where we can pick our path. The ability to ask for power or to figure out what magic we want to use most. I know I've clearly done some stuff since the pact requires a mix of magic and blood, but this is huge." Amelia says with a bit more excitement now, losing the serious tone from before.
She's not wrong, I was already thinking about all this though. In my previous life I never really thought about magic much, not even in the games I've played.
I was more of the hacking and slashing kind of player but it could be a really strong thing to take advantage of. It sounds like it's common for people to decide as soon as they hit age 16.
I'm sure others discover it sooner but what if I could combine what I want to make the ultimate choice?
I doubt the gods or goddesses would favor it but I've got a good idea of what I'd ask for if I could ask for anything.
