Chapter 14 - A Slight Delay

Amelia said her goodbyes before we departed for Nexus, but it was definitely odd having another person with us. Cynthia wouldn't be the worst addition to the group, just it's different to add someone new.

She was very pretty at least and she seems to have more experience than we do. It was hard not to notice that she kept a very close eye on me as we started traveling together.

I'm sure Marcelo was the one that asked her to keep an eye on me since I'm just some stranger who showed up with his niece. The chains should've been more of a giveaway that I wasn't originally here by choice.

I guess even a man like him can be incapable of noticing such a thing.

They continue through the beautiful forest around them as the path continues for Nexus. Not much happens in this area since the town nearby is known for its unusually low crime rate.

Most people believe it's from the amount of guards or even the strong Adventurers that pass through.

Either way they made it through the forest by the town pretty easily.

A Day and a half passes. Just outside the city of Nexus.

You could definitely tell it was a trade city by the amount of ship bells that could be heard by the edge of the city itself. This was definitely the right place but something felt off.

The city of Nexus was huge, lots of different shop buildings, "apartments" , and even the docks/shipping yard was big. Lots of people could be seen in the distance walking all throughout the city.

Most of the architecture was dated from 127MA when magic really started coming into the picture. It's almost like calling the architecture old you could say, but most people would say that's exactly what makes it Nexus.

(Author Note. The Year hasn't been disclosed yet in the story but MA is Magus Arrivals. As that is the time that people with great control of magic started to show.)

"I've never been here personally but it is quite the sight to take in." Cynthia speaks up with a bit of a surprised expression on her face.

I couldn't disagree, this place was definitely a lot bigger and way nicer than I expected it to be. The book I read back at the estate did talk about it being like this but everything is always different in person.

Amelia steps ahead of them both. "We should check everything out before we look for a ship to travel aboard." Amelia says with a bit of excitement in her voice.

I don't think it's a terrible idea, I'm just on edge with the attackers from before. I guess we are a bit better off than before. "I think that'd be a great idea." Artemis agrees while taking a step forward.

Cynthia agreed with them either way since she was traveling with them but they made their way into the city. Sticking together through the dense crowds of people as they looked for a temporary place to stay.

It didn't take too long to find a place since the city itself has plenty of different spots for travelers to stay the night. The choice they went with was known as "The Golden Apple Inn." The inside of this place was nice, it gave off noble vibes. A place that royalty would usually stay when traveling.

This place was definitely a lot nicer than I expected it to be so what type of people usually stay here? I would expect to see quite a bit of nobles here, at least that's the kind of vibe I'm getting from the place.

A man wearing a nice suit with a tie behind the counter, jet black hair that appears to be slicked back takes notice of them. "Hello! Welcome to the Golden Apple Inn, I'm Jak. How many rooms will you be getting?" The Man asks with a smile on his face.

I really hope Amelia has the coin for this because it definitely doesn't seem any less expensive after seeing this guy. Jak as he called himself, he definitely gives off the exact vibe I thought about before.

This place definitely is some sort of noble inn or one that people of interest would stay at during their travels. I guess Amelia would be considered part of the noble aspect of things though.

Her family estate would've given that away too so maybe it isn't that far off to think we'd stay here. Maybe it just doesn't suit me personally since I was and still am, a slave.

Even if she doesn't outright say it, that's exactly what the pact is.

"Do you have any rooms that have more than one bed?" Amelia asks.

Jak looks down at a list on the counter as he begins to examine each one. "Room 17 happens to be the perfect one for you. 12 Eldian please." Jak responds while extending his hand.

Amelia gives him what appears to be silver coins before he hands her a key for the room. But during this time Cynthia had gathered some information herself.

They went up to the room and as Amelia opened up the door they were greeted by a well kept room with two beds inside. Some paintings of historical figures on the wall and it even had a bathroom.

"This will definitely do for tonight." Amelia says with a bit of excitement in her voice.

Cynthia walks to the middle of the room before turning around to face them. "It'll be more than a night. A slight delay due to some issues that are happening with the docks. We aren't in a rush are we?" Cynthia says before questioning them.

"Not particularly, but I guess it can't be helped either way." Amelia replies after shrugging.

I don't have anything to say to that since it would be important to leave as soon as possible, but I don't have a clear idea of where to go yet. This was only the first place we talked about going.

Maybe I could find some information on the group I'm looking for if I ask around tomorrow during the day.
