Immediately, expecting the worst, I started panicking. "It looks terrible! Oh gosh I am going to make a horrible first impression and ruin this meeting for dad, aren't I?"
I started looking around for something different to put on. It would be better if there was something I could wear besides a dress, but if not, maybe I could get at least a different dress that wasn't so tight and short.
As I turned around to head into her closet for different clothes, Bethany stopped me by hitting me in the back with a pair of strappy sandals. "Don't be dumb, of course you look terrible. But there is nothing you can do about it. Also, you don't have time to change, put those on, let's go."
I looked down at the sandals. Signing, I reached down and grabbed the sandals and slipped them on quickly. .
While I was working on getting the shoes on, Bethany decided that she needed to insult me a little bit more. "If you ask me, you are going to make a bad impression for a completely different reason than you think. You do not need to worry about what you look like in that dress, there really isn't anything that you could put on to make you look any better."
Being that there was nothing left to do, I started to follow Bethany when she walked out of her bedroom.
We were halfway down the hall, when I remembered my volleyball clothes and jogged back to get them before she threw them away. Bethany tried to yell out at me to go, but I ignored her and quickly grabbed my clothes.
"Why did you bother with those, you won't need them!" Bethany sneered.
"I need them for practice in the morning. Our state competition is coming up soon, so we are practicing extra. We have an early morning practice tomorrow, so I will need them. I do not need for them to come up missing or end up in the trash." I replied back to her, trying to get her to understand the importance. And let her know that I knew she would throw them away as fast as she could if I did leave them.
She just glanced at the clothes and smirked at me. Then she simply stated, "Don't care, and still don't think you will need them. Besides, you may not even be able to make it to practice tomorrow."
"Why would I not be able to practice?" I asked her, not understanding what would prevent me from having practice. Surely a business meeting can not take that long, meaning that I would still be able to get plenty of sleep for practice in the morning. Hell, even if I did not get enough sleep, I would still be going to practice.
She hummed in response, "Oh, just a feeling."
Whatever, she doesn't have to care, it matters to me.
As we passed by my room, I tossed my clothes onto my floor and shut the door back quickly. I need to remember to try and wash them when I get back in. I really do not want to go to practice with stinky gear.
I continued to follow Bethany until we got to the bottom of the stairs. Once we reached the bottom, I started heading to the left towards the dining room, but Bethany started heading right towards the patio door.
"Ummm, where are you going moron? I swear you can never do anything right can you?" Bethany laughed at me.
I looked back at her confused, "The dining room, that's where dad normally meets with his guest at. Isn't that where he is? He didn't say that we would be meeting anywhere other than in the dining room."
Bethany had on her usual evil smirk, the one she got when she knew something that I did not know, "Oh, dad had a new meeting room built out back. This room is larger and plenty of space for extra activities. You will be meeting the special guest out in the new meeting room."
Well interesting.
Confused, but I followed her out into the back yard.
We had a huge back yard, but because I have been trying to stay away from home recently, I didn't know about the new building.
Being gone as often as possible would explain how I didn't know about the new meeting room that was built. I guess that would also explain how I had never heard or seen any of the construction, because surely that would have made a lot of noise.
It could make sense; dad would be able to host any guest or important business meeting out here and not have to worry about being interrupted. It would also eliminate being distracted by the twins. They can get rather loud sometimes.
As we walked further into the back yard, I was a little surprised at how far away the meeting room, or well building was from the house. Seems a little inconvenient but who am I to make those judgment calls.
It was a quaint and simple building.
There was nothing fancy or special about the building that stood out about it.
In fact, it looked much like our pool shed, just on a larger scale. And of course, like everything my father owns it had an elegant look to it. It would make a perfect little guest house, where visitors would be able to stay a few days. Or one of those in-law suites, where my grandparents could stay when or if they came to visit.
So busy inspecting the newest structure in our back yard I didn't even notice my father standing out there appraising me as I walked up. When I finally noticed him, all he did was grunted at my appearance.
Well, I guess that wasn't a complete disapproval. I am sure it is probably the closest I will ever get to approval that I will ever get from him.
He did not make any more indication, leaving me to believe that he neither liked nor hated how I looked. Did he approve of how Bethany got me ready?
