Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Now I'm the Hunter!

"I completely forgot that I had to eat something. Wait a minute, actually, how long have I been in this forest. I got completely lost because of this nightmare, but it shouldn't have been longer than yesterday afternoon, so the last meal was a hideous lunch in the school cafeteria. What do you think ravens, we should probably eat something, but I don't think they have McDonald's..."

"Kraa, Kraa" – the raven nodded approvingly.

"Why don't you fly a little higher and look around for something to eat?"

The raven, without waiting for further instructions, flew up and began to circle between the branches of the trees. It moved silently, moving its wings only rarely, most of the time it glided freely using the air currents. After a few minutes, he sat down on a branch and began to look intently in one direction, as if focusing his eyes on something.

"Did you notice something?"

The raven only started to move its wings in response and ruffled its feathers as if saying – who do you think I am, of course I found us food!

"Ok, fly," Jason said in his mind. Suddenly, another green system notification appeared in front of Jason.

"You have received a new quest, get food, reward: 10 experience points, flint (item)"

"Great, at least if I manage to hunt something, I won't have to eat raw meat – I don't know if I could do it, I've always been disgusted by it"

Jason followed the slowly gliding raven, moving at a slow trot, because he tried to be as quiet as possible so as not to scare the game. Until now, he had only followed his familiar, he had not yet seen what kind of prey the raven had spotted.

After about ten minutes of jogging, he noticed something that corresponded to a large boar, but it was not a boar, although it might have looked like that at first glance. The animal looked more like a brown rabbit, but with small ears sticking out like those of a hound. Jason stopped carefully and hid behind the nearest tree. He tried to be as quiet as possible and take a few moments to observe his future prey—or so he hoped.

The big rabbit was busy devouring a huge mushroom the size of a small car, he didn't seem to be particularly alert, he made a lot of noise with his food, grunting with every bite.

"Ok, it doesn't look bad, I hope this creature is a vegetarian, I don't know if my familiars will handle it if it turns out to be very aggressive."

"Okay, I don't think there's anything else to do but get down to work, waiting any longer probably won't do me any good"

Without unnecessary planning, Jason gave the order to his summons to attack a bizarre hybrid of a boar and a rabbit.

The raven flew high, while the wasps scattered and surrounded the animal, and at the summoner's telepathic command, they all rushed to attack at once.

The raven tried very hard to attack the animal's head, but unfortunately its claws were unable to break through the thick fur. The raven threw a few blows that did not bring any results. Fortunately, the animal only tried to defend itself and did not attack back. He seemed very scared.

Although the wounds they inflicted were not very deep, Jason could see that their stingers injected painful poison directly into the beast's wounds. With every moment, the animal was getting weaker. At some point, it completely abandoned its intention to defend itself against attacks and ran away. The speeding wild rabbit-boar was still very fast, much faster than Jason's swarm of wasps, only the raven had a chance to keep up with him.

The boar fell into the thicket of the forest, it was obvious that it hurt to move, but it was the only chance for him to come out of the meeting with Jason alive.

Jason followed the creature as fast as he could, knowing that his opponent was badly wounded, but he was not going to let his dinner escape. The wasps were moving a little faster than the boy, and were not able to catch up with the big rabbit, fortunately the raven was not going to let him escape. Flying high, almost under the very crowns of trees, he watched the fleeing prey vigilantly.

Not more than half an hour had passed before the raven perched lower, and perched on a branch in such a way that Jason could easily see him as he approached. When the boy came, his prey was just taking its last breath.

"Quest completed done. Received 10 experience points, received the Magic flint item"

Immediately afterwards, another message appeared.

"Enemy Lesser Eren defeated, gained 5 experience points"

"Hmmm, I was hoping to level up, but unfortunately, you can't have everything," Jason glanced at the screen, which showed the amount of experience he had – 40/50.

"If I can beat another opponent like that, I'll definitely level up. I also didn't get any bonus points for killing him, probably the system doesn't think that he was very demanding. All in all, he's kind of right, the creature didn't look aggressive, but it was certainly very resilient.

If that rabbit was called Lesser Eren, then I wonder what Greater Eren looks like..." – thought Jason, and once again realized how different this place was from the entourage he knew.

"I wonder where I actually am, is it some other planet, another dimension, or maybe some parallel reality?" – but no one could answer these questions for the time being.

The boy began to wonder how to prepare the meat from eren. He found two large stones and with one of them sharpened the other in such a way as to cut off one of the animal's legs. It was large enough to last for two days. He thought of returning to the hill where he had camped before. So far, he has not encountered another stream in the area, and without water he would not last as long as without food.

He hid the leg from the eren in the system inventory and also took a sharpened stone with him. He thought he might be able to make a makeshift axe out of it, then he went the way he had come from—at least tonight he wouldn't go to bed hungry.
