Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: The End of the Trial

Darwin glanced at Yide across from him with disdain, his face filled with confidence.

In his view, winning this case was as easy as reaching into a bag to grab something.

Although he couldn't acquit Kent, escaping the charge of murdering the Anna sisters would undoubtedly be a huge victory.

He had already begun to imagine the scene after the court trial, with countless dignitaries casting admiring glances his way.

However, at that moment, Yide suddenly chuckled, breaking the silence.

He stared sharply at Darwin and said slowly, "Mr. Darwin, haven't you forgotten something important?"

Darwin was slightly stunned, and a premonition of unease surged in his heart.

He tried to remain calm, attempting to find a flaw in Yide's words.

Yide didn't give him much time to think, continuing coldly, "Kent murdered the Anna sisters because he believed they witnessed him burying Kano's body.

So, guess where Kent hid Kano's body?"

Darwin's eyes widened suddenly, and a terrible idea surfaced in his mind.

He turned his head, staring intently at Kent, his eyes revealing deep questioning and disbelief.

Kent's body had already slumped, as if he had lost all support, his eyes filled with despair and helplessness.

He never expected that Yide could see through his secret.

After a brief moment of thought, Furina had already figured out the answer—it was the sycamore tree in the manor that had always seemed an eyesore!

Yide's voice echoed in the air, "Under the sycamore tree in the manor lies the body of lawyer Kano! And the person who personally transplanted that sycamore tree was Kent!"

Darwin's heart had completely cooled; he understood that the outcome of this trial was no longer in doubt.

Yide continued, "Kent not only brutally murdered lawyer Kano but also poisoned the Anna sisters, who might have known about his crimes, for fear of being exposed.

His sins go far beyond that; he also had an affair with Mrs. Bella and colluded to murder the ailing Baron Edson."

Like a mountain of iron, no matter how Darwin argued, Neuvillette and the audience would no longer believe his words.

After a short wait, the Oratrice Mecanique d'Analyse Cardinale delivered the final verdict:

"Kent is found guilty of murdering Baron Edson, lawyer Kano, the Anna sisters, and attempting to murder Ella, and is sentenced to life imprisonment."

"Mrs. Bella is found guilty of conspiring to murder Baron Edson and lawyer Kano and is sentenced to thirty years in prison."

Just when the audience thought the trial was over, Yide still stood at the plaintiff's seat and said loudly, "Chief Justice Neuvillette, the trial should not end here; there is still a criminal at large."

As soon as he finished speaking, Neuvillette, who was about to leave, stopped and looked at him, "Who is it?"

Yide replied, "The Chief Investigator of the Marechaussee Phantom, Kenneth.

It was because of his corruption and shielding of criminals that the disappearance of lawyer Kano eight years ago became an unsolved case.

His actions directly led to Annie's death, and even during the case investigation, he leaked information to Kent, causing Anna to become an innocent victim as well."

But disappointingly, Neuvillette responded in a low voice, "I believe what you said, but there is no concrete evidence to support it. Without evidence, we cannot conduct a trial."

"Hahahaha!" Yide suddenly laughed, his laughter echoing in the courtroom, filled with endless irony and anger.

"This is the so-called nation of justice? How ridiculous! We all know he is a criminal, but we can't bring him to justice because there is no evidence! Isn't this absurd?"

Neuvillette was silent. Kenneth's crimes could not be pursued at all. Forcibly pursuing them would only amount to negligence in handling the case, not enough to convict him.

Listening to his accusations, Furina felt complex emotions in her heart.

She began to understand why Yide was so determined to establish the West Factory.

Then, under everyone's gaze, Yide announced in a powerful voice, "Today, in the name of the Hydro Archon of Fontaine, Furina, I officially establish the West Factory!

This institution will be responsible for supervising all law enforcement departments in Fontaine and will be dedicated to solving all unsolved cases in Fontaine.

From the Chief Justice to the ordinary people, we will investigate everything and bring true justice to Fontaine and its people!"

His firm voice resounded throughout the Opera Epiclese.

These words were like a thunderclap, exploding in everyone's hearts. The audience was deeply touched and applauded and cheered, believing that he could bring true justice to Fontaine.

However, not everyone applauded Yide's announcement.

Some people were ashen-faced, including Kenneth, who was watching the trial.

As soon as he heard Yide's words, he jumped up from his seat, trying to slip away quietly.

But just as he was about to step out of the exit, two Melusines suddenly appeared in front of him, blocking his way.

"Mr. Kenneth," one of the Melusines said in a polite but cold tone, "I am Ophelia from the West Factory, and this is my colleague, Ebel.

Given your connection to some unresolved cases, we would like you to come with us to assist in our investigation."
