Chapter 38: Three Years
Boom!
Li Xu tossed a capsule to the ground, and with a cloud of smoke, it expanded into a fully prepared outdoor table laden with a feast of fresh-cooked food.
"You probably never had proper food back on Planet Vampa. You were stranded there for years, surviving on the limited fauna and insect larvae. Try this real food from around the galaxy," Li Xu said. As he knew from system intel, King Vegeta had exiled Broly there as an infant due to his overwhelming latent power.
Broly's eyes widened at the sight of the spread. His stomach rumbled loudly, and he immediately started devouring the food. Despite his size, there was a desperation in his eating it was clear he hadn't experienced a proper meal in his entire life. What was meant to last Li Xu three days was gone in under thirty minutes.
"Thank you…" Broly said, licking his fingers, his tone sincere.
"It's nothing," Li Xu smiled. "Right now, you still can't control your rage. I can't bring you to a populated planet like Earth or Namek. You'll stay here on Planet Bandung for now."
"This place is amazing," Broly said with a rare smile. The green plains and breathable atmosphere were a huge contrast from Vampa's acidic storms and barren landscape.
"I'll check in regularly. Keep training."
With those parting words, Li Xu vanished with Instant Transmission, returning to Planet Bengal.
He was genuinely curious to see how this version of Broly liberated from Paragus's control and the trauma of Vampa would grow.
Li Xu had spent time analyzing Broly's aura. The Legendary Super Saiyan's Ki wasn't just vast it was chaotic. Much more violent than an average Saiyan's, even in base form. No wonder such Saiyans were prone to losing themselves to their instincts, even without transforming.
…
The seasons changed.
Three years passed in the blink of an eye.
Time, the most powerful force in the universe, had turned the once-new experience of Planet Bengal into a peaceful routine. Forests bloomed and withered. Tides reshaped coasts. Even the stars over Bengal shifted slightly.
Li Xu couldn't believe that he and Bulma had ended up staying for three full years. What was originally meant to be a temporary stop had turned into a quiet, settled life.
In that time, Li Xu trained rigorously splitting his time between meditation, combat drills, and occasionally exploring the planet with Bulma. She was fascinated by Bengal's native minerals and wildlife. They lived comfortably, far from the chaos of the galactic stage.
…
Planet Bandung.
On a vast open plain, two figures clashed with rapid precision. Shockwaves echoed across the valley bang, bang, bang! as fists collided midair. The speed was so intense that the naked eye couldn't follow the movement.
Suddenly, the fighters reappeared on a high boulder. Their spar ended at once.
"Broly, I still can't beat you." Li Xu wiped a bit of sweat, but smiled. He wasn't discouraged. He'd expected this outcome.
"You've come a long way," Broly replied. "At this rate, you'll catch up to me soon."
In the three years they'd trained together, they'd developed a genuine friendship. Li Xu would visit every ten days or so. Despite Broly's raw power, he showed restraint and growth his berserk episodes were fewer now. Still, every spar ended with Li Xu's defeat.
The benefit? Li Xu's combat strength had surged to 5 million. He was still chasing the Super Saiyan transformation, but his foundation was solid.
"I've decided it's time for me to return to my home planet Earth," Li Xu said. "Bulma and I have been away for nearly five years now."
Broly nodded. "Makes sense. I'm going to stay. I've got Xiao Ao here." He glanced off to the side, where a large feline almost sabertooth-like rested under a tree. He'd rescued it two years ago during a storm, and the creature had become his trusted companion.
"Fair enough." Li Xu smiled. He pulled out a capsule and tossed it to Broly. "There's a fully equipped universal spaceship in there. Keep it you never know."
"I'll take care of it," Broly said, pocketing the capsule. He wasn't the type to say much, but the gesture mattered.
"Well then… until next time!"
With a bright flash and the familiar hum of Instant Transmission, Li Xu vanished.
…
Back on Planet Bengal.
"Li Xu, I've packed everything!" Bulma greeted him, clearly excited. She had missed her family, her lab, and Earth's comforts.
"Then let's go," Li Xu said warmly.
"By spaceship or Instant Transmission?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
Li Xu looked at her eager expression and laughed. "Let's teleport. I can't let you wait any longer."
With the steady rise in his combat power, the effective range of Instant Transmission had also expanded dramatically. Now, traveling directly from Planet Bengal to Earth was a simple matter.
Though Li Xu had no blood relatives on Earth, the one person he cared about most—Bulma—was already by his side. So he didn't feel the same urgency to return. Still, with friends like Son Goku back home, returning to Earth felt appropriate.
"Mm." Bulma wrapped her arm around Li Xu's left arm, leaning close.
Li Xu raised his right hand, placing his index and middle fingers on his forehead. He focused intently, locking onto the God of Earth's energy signature Dende's Ki. With a soft whoosh, the two vanished.
…
Earth – The Lookout.
The warm hues of the setting sun lit up half the sky, casting an orange-red glow over the ancient Lookout. Its temple, perched high above the world, reflected the fading light like a divine mirror.
In the open square before the temple, four figures were engaged in spirited combat. Their silhouettes blurred, fists clashed mid-air, and shockwaves rippled across the platform Krillin, Yamcha, Tien Shinhan, and Chiaotzu were all training seriously.
"I haven't seen them in five years, and yet everyone's strength has grown quite a bit," Li Xu observed as he appeared quietly above the Lookout, floating silently as he watched the scene below.
"Why isn't Goku here?" Bulma asked, scanning the square.
"Training here won't help Goku anymore," Li Xu replied. "He's surpassed this level long ago."
Indeed, while the others had improved significantly, Goku was in a different realm altogether now especially after mastering techniques like Instant Transmission and training under beings like King Kai and Whis.
"Come on, let's go say hi."
The pair descended gracefully, landing in front of the divine sanctuary.
"Dende, long time no see!" Li Xu greeted with a light laugh.
"Li Xu! You're back!" Dende, the current God of Earth, was surprised but visibly pleased. Li Xu had been gone for years with no word.
Li Xu nodded calmly.
"Your presence… it's hard to read. It feels like you've masked your power completely." Dende was puzzled his divine senses could no longer gauge Li Xu's strength, which was usually only possible with beings of god-tier power.
"I spent some time in the wider universe," Li Xu said with a grin. "Naturally, I made a bit of progress."
In truth, if he had stayed on Earth and trained alone, his growth wouldn't have been nearly as explosive. Having high-level sparring partners—especially Broly had pushed his evolution further than expected.
"Li Xu!" a familiar voice called out. Krillin flew over excitedly.
"Long time no see," Li Xu said with a friendly nod.
"Dende told us you left Earth. You didn't even come to the last World Martial Arts Tournament Goku grumbled about it for weeks!" Krillin laughed.
"I was in deep space during that time. Instant Transmission doesn't always work easily over long ranges unless I have a familiar Ki to lock onto."
Of course, that wasn't the full truth Li Xu could have returned. Even if he'd needed to stop at a few planetary energy sources along the way, the technique made it doable.
But with how far his power had grown far beyond even Goku's recent base levels—participating in a tournament like that simply no longer held meaning for him.
