Chapter 41 - CHAPTER 41

c41: Super Saiyan

Planet Bandung.

Li Xu stood silently atop a towering stone pillar, eyes closed in deep concentration. In his mind, a vivid scene replayed a nightmare where a powerful enemy overwhelmed him, and he was too weak to protect Bulma. It wasn't real, but the pain it conjured was raw.

This mental projection was a technique he learned during his time on Planet Yardrat self-induced hypnosis to ignite his emotional triggers and focus his willpower.

Though he consciously understood the illusion, fury boiled in his chest, and his ki began to stir.

"HAAAAAH!!"

Li Xu's eyes snapped open as he let out a roar. A violent surge of white energy exploded around him, the sheer pressure splitting the clouds and warping the skies. The aura quickly began to shimmer tinged with gold as sparks of lightning cracked through the sky.

His black hair flickered between black and gold, his energy rising exponentially. The transformation teetered on the edge before finally stabilizing: his hair blazed golden, his eyes turned a piercing teal, and a fierce golden aura enveloped him completely.

Li Xu had become a Super Saiyan.

From a nearby ridge, Broly watched silently, a tiger-like alien creature crouched beside him. His face was calm but attentive.

"So this is a Super Saiyan…" Broly muttered, eyes narrowing.

Three months had passed since Li Xu returned to Earth, and the tranquility of that time had allowed the S-Cells in his body to accumulate further a critical factor in achieving the Super Saiyan transformation, as noted by modern Saiyan biology.

However, the sheer energy release from his transformation was too disruptive to perform on Earth. That's why he had traveled to the isolated Planet Bandung, away from civilian life.

"What insane power," Li Xu said, clenching his fists. His ki surged wildly; the strength was intoxicating.

But even amid the excitement, he noticed something strange.

"The dimensional boundary didn't shift…" he murmured.

Despite his combat power now exceeding 200 million well beyond the galactic-level threshold of 100 million his dimensional tier remained at the star-level. That meant his control and essence hadn't evolved, despite his raw power.

"It seems transformation increases only physical power. It doesn't elevate dimensional essence," Li Xu noted.

This realization aligned with what he had discovered while using the Kaio-ken technique previously. He had hoped Super Saiyan might be different. It wasn't.

In Dragon Ball terms, the trio of jing, qi, and shen body, energy, and spirit had to progress together. Power alone meant nothing without the spirit to contain and stabilize it. This is why some Saiyans, though powerful enough to destroy planets or even galaxies in theory, could still be harmed by focused energy weapons if caught off guard: their true combat potential was heavily transformation-dependent, not reflective of their base durability.

Shaking off the disappointment, Li Xu refocused.

"Broly, fight me!" he called out suddenly. His body buzzed with electricity. He needed a strong opponent to stabilize his new power.

"Alright," Broly replied calmly, stepping forward. Despite being the Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly himself hadn't yet undergone a true Super Saiyan transformation. Still, his latent power was immense.

Whoosh! Whoosh!

The two blasted toward each other at high velocity.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Shockwaves tore through the surrounding landscape as they exchanged fierce blows midair. Broly's raw strength was overwhelming. Even without transforming, he fought with the poise of a seasoned warrior, barely fazed by Li Xu's enhanced attacks.

The ground split, massive rocks crumbled under the force, and the distant tiger had long since fled the area.

After nearly an hour of high-speed, high-impact combat, Li Xu finally began to falter.

His energy reserves were nearly depleted. Unable to sustain his Super Saiyan form any longer, he fell to one knee, gasping for breath.

Meanwhile, Broly had barely broken a sweat his role more sparring partner than serious opponent.

"You've improved tremendously," Broly said with a respectful nod.

"It's not that hard to transform into a Super Saiyan," Li Xu admitted between breaths. "What's difficult is staying conscious and sane through it."

Pulling out a Senzu Bean from his pouch, he ate it in one bite. Instantly, his strength and stamina returned to full.

He glanced at Broly.

"If your emotional state ever hits the right point, I have no doubt you'll transform too."

Broly said nothing, but his eyes glinted with silent understanding.

"It feels good to me," Broly said calmly, shaking his head. Despite the raw power around him, what he truly longed for wasn't strength it was emotional control and inner freedom.

"I'll head back now. I'll visit again when I get time," Li Xu said.

Having just unlocked the Super Saiyan transformation, it was crucial for him to hold onto the feeling and master the emotional trigger to achieve it at will.

Whoosh!

In a blur, Li Xu vanished from the rocky plateau, using Instant Transmission to return to Earth.

...

The sky was an endless blue, dotted with cotton-like clouds. The golden sands glistened under the warm sunlight. Seagulls cawed in the distance, and waves lapped rhythmically at the shore.

Li Xu reclined on a rattan chair, dressed in short sleeves and sunglasses. The Super Saiyan aura subtly shimmered around him his golden hair glinting in the sun—as he relaxed under the open sky.

Since returning from Planet Bandung, he had undergone intense training for a month. Now, he had finally mastered transforming into a Super Saiyan at will—maintaining the form as naturally as breathing. Today, however, was not about training. He was spending time with Bulma at the beach, allowing himself to unwind.

"Li Xu, why are you still in your Super Saiyan form?" Bulma asked. She lay beside him in a teal bikini, her azure hair tied up, catching the sun.

"It's a form of cultivation," Li Xu replied casually. "The longer I stay in this state, the better I can stabilize and conserve my energy output just like how Goku and Gohan did when they trained in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber."

"Hmph. It's a little weird, but your voice gets cooler when you're like this." Bulma giggled, poking fun.

"Why'd you come ashore so soon? Weren't you enjoying the water?" Li Xu asked.

"It's boring by myself. If you don't join me, there's no fun in it." Bulma pouted, giving him a side glance.

"You do realize," Li Xu said with a smirk, "that when you stand in front of me dressed like that, I'm already hanging on by a thread. If I get in the water with you, I'm afraid we might have a different kind of battle... right in the ocean."

"Pervert!" Bulma's face turned bright red. Though they were long past modesty in private, his teasing still made her flush like a shy schoolgirl. Her reactions only made Li Xu enjoy teasing her more.

"A gift for you." Li Xu suddenly pulled out a small box from his pocket and handed it to her.

"What's this?" Bulma asked, blinking in surprise. Her eyes lit up she always loved when he surprised her.

"Open it and see," Li Xu said.

Bulma opened the box and froze. Nestled inside was a dazzling diamond ring, glittering in the sunlight.

"Will you marry me?" Li Xu asked, his golden aura dimming slightly as he spoke with gentle sincerity.

Bulma was silent. Her eyes welled up. This sudden proposal had caught her completely off guard.

After a few moments, she gave a tearful smile and nodded. "Mmm…"

Li Xu immediately wrapped his arms around her.

"I'll never let you down," he whispered into her ear.

"What made you suddenly propose to me?" Bulma asked, wiping her eyes.

"Yesterday, someone muttered in her sleep that she was going to marry me. So I decided not to wait." Li Xu chuckled and tapped her small nose affectionately.

"Did I really say that?" Bulma blinked, her face flushed with both joy and embarrassment.

"Guess," Li Xu said with a teasing grin.

"You better not be lying! Or I'll take it back!" she warned with mock seriousness.

"It's too late now," Li Xu said with a laugh. "You're mine forever. No escaping."

With that, he pulled her closer. The waves continued to crash gently in the distance, but in that moment, the whole world seemed quiet.
