Sakamiya University

Main Parking Lot

12:30 PM

Far ahead of Haruto and Kanna, towering and massive, loomed the leader of all Chaos Beast Maelghors.

Morthamraga – The Corrupted Wyrm Lord

Its body stretched fifteen meters long, four meters wide, and could rise up to six meters tall when lifting its upper half like a monstrous cobra. Its scales—black as obsidian metal—gleamed with an unnatural sheen, hinting that ordinary attacks would be useless.

Crimson veins pulsed beneath its armor, glowing faintly with every breath, as if something unholy writhed beneath the scales.

Two massive tentacles extended from its body, each ending in a spear-like tip. Two others resembled serrated jaws—dripping with a viscous, corrosive acid. There would be no mercy for anyone foolish enough to stand before it.

Its eyes, glowing a deep, seething crimson—locked onto Haruto and Kanna. The murderous intent radiating from that gaze struck like a spear through the soul. A weaker heart might have crumbled beneath the weight of it, suffocated by pure despair.

Its presence alone radiated oppressive power, an unspoken warning that this would not be an easy battle.

It had been waiting patiently all this time in the back, watching as the two young heroes wiped out every one of its minions. Almost like it had been studying them, trying to learn what they were truly capable of.

Now, as its turn finally came, it rose like a cobra, towering high to assert its dominance over the battlefield.

The Chaos Beast Boss, Morthamraga opened it's jaw, revealing rows of sword-like fangs, and let out a deafening roar...

SSHHRRIIIEEEEEKKKK..!!!

The roar unleashed a blast of wind that shook the earth, blowing across the field like a shockwave. A declaration of dominance. A threat. A challenge. It's the declaration that it would not fall easily—and it would not let them live.

"Haruto, Kanna, listen." Luna's voice came through again urgently.

"My Absolute Holy Barrier will only last for 6 more minutes. You must defeat Morthamraga before it expires—and before it summons the third wave, which it's likely capable of triggering. I still don't know what it's abilities are or what attack patterns it may use. But I'll observe and relay information during the fight."

"Also, I've fully synchronized your Sacred Madougu with my Astral Examiner Device. This allows you to see limited enemy status indicators—and the amount of damage dealt by each of your attacks. Every time you use a Madoukai skill that consumes Mystic Energy, the display will show your remaining Mystic Energy percentage—not the amount consumed."

"For example, if you see this:"

[Mystic Energy: 50%]

"It means you have 50% Mystic Energy left after using the skill."

"If either of you take a hit, your Wielder Condition will decrease. Be extremely careful. Coordinate your strategies. Don't act recklessly. Good luck."

"Got it, Luna. We'll stay alert." Kanna replied, understanding the weight behind Luna's words.

"Understood, Luna. We're starting now. Let's hope we can end this quickly." Haruto added.

"Kanna-chan… let's do it together. I will protect you." Haruto turned to her with a soft yet firm voice

"H-Haruto-kun, y-y-yes. I-I.. I too.. will protect you." Kanna said a little shyly, her cheek flushed with quiet joy that Haruto intended to protect her.

Then…

The Boss Battle.. Began!

Haruto and Kanna dashed forward side by side, heading straight for Morthamraga. The massive boss monster began to move as well—but not as aggressively as the previous minions. Its glowing red eyes shifted slowly between the two of them, as if calculating, choosing which one to strike first.

"Haruto-kun, what's the strategy against this thing?" Kanna asked, flying beside him. She didn't want to rush into a fight blindly.

"Kanna-chan, you're faster than me and can stay airborne. Use that to your advantage. Draw its attention—hover near its head from the left. If you can, hit it with low-cost mid-range skills. Stay agile. Keep moving. Don't let it counterattack." Haruto gave instructions as he ran, trusting her to take on the role of distraction.

"Alright, Haruto-kun. What about you?"

"I've got a few plans in mind. Just watch." he said with a smirk, then split off from her—dashing toward the right side of the monster while Kanna ascended to the left.

"Madoukai..!" Haruto shouted to trigger one of his skills.

"VIOLET BOARD..!" [Mystic Energy: 75%]

Still running, Haruto stretched his left hand forward while holding his scythe in his right. Within a second, a large purple stream burst from his palm and rapidly solidified into a flat board—about two meters wide and two meters long—hovering right in front of him.

As soon as the board formed, he jumped and landed on it, standing upright. Like a rider on a sleek vehicle, Haruto glided through the air with incredible speed, heading for the monster's backside. Despite the motion, he remained perfectly balanced—his stance firm atop the flying construct.

This thing's amazing... it responds directly to my thoughts.. Haruto thought, genuinely impressed by the synchronization between his mind and the Violet Board.

Meanwhile, Kanna Fujita was soaring toward the monster's head, her voice ringing out confidently:

"Madoukai..!!"

She spread her arms outward and shouted once more…

"FLAME SHIELDS..!" [Mystic Energy: 80%]

On both sides of her arms, thin flame-shaped rectangular energy shields materialized—each about 20 centimeters wide and 70 centimeters tall. They floated just beside the backs of her hands, not gripped or attached, but hovering precisely in sync with her every movement.

Let's hope these flame shields can hold up against a boss like this.. Kanna thought, eyes focused.

As she drew closer to its head, Kanna triggered another skill:

"Madoukai..!"

"FLAME SHOT!" [Mystic Energy: 70%]

After locking onto several target points across the giant monster's head, Kanna swung her right leg outward, then snapped it forward. Spinning her body to the left, she launched a blazing roundhouse kick—releasing seven small fireballs. Then, following through, she pivoted with her left leg, striking again with the sole of her boot in a second spinning kick.

The fireballs shot straight toward Morthamraga's head.

"Take that!!" Kanna shouted, thrusting her right hand forward in a pistol-shaped gesture.

BWWHOOSSHHHH..!!

All seven fireballs ignited on impact—scorching their targets with intense heat. Flames erupted violently, followed by thick smoke and glowing embers that engulfed the monster's upper body.

"YEEAAHH, roast like barbecue, you overgrown beast! So that's all you've got?!" Kanna yelled, confidence flaring.

But as the smoke began to clear, the shadow of Morthamraga re-emerged—still standing tall and unscathed. What appeared first were its two spear-like tentacles, writhing in the air like serpents, followed by the rest of its towering body.

Not a single burn mark. Not even a scratch.

"W-What?! How? But I hit it! It was burning just now—how is it completely fine?!" Kanna gasped, a flicker of doubt creeping into her voice.

"It blocked your fireballs with its spear-tentacles." Luna's voice suddenly cut in from Kanna's right glove. "Your flames only scorched its spears, and those things are fire-resistant."

"KANNA, LOOK OUT! DODGE!!" Luna suddenly shouted, alarm in her voice.

"KANNA-CHAN, MOVE!!" Haruto yelled from behind the monster, hovering on his Violet Board.

Kanna instinctively darted to her left without even looking, just as something shot past her.

WHHHHSSSSHH..!

Time seemed to slow.…

A high-pitched hiss tore past the right side of her head—close enough to slice through several strands of her hair. They vanished instantly, dissolved midair. The projectile passed clean through one of her flame shields without even slowing down.

The hissing projectile splashed onto the ground, producing an intense white smoke and a sharper, crackling hiss.

SSSHHHHHHH..!

Kanna's eyes widened in shock as she glanced downward; the projectile had carved a wide, molten crater, melting the ground surface instantly.

"T-that's... t-that's..." Kanna shuddered involuntarily, covering her mouth with one trembling hand in horror.

Inside The Conference Room 2nd Floor

"DEADLY CORROSIVE ACID..!!" Luna and several others in the room shouted in shock.

"That's the same attack from the classified footage, when Sergeant Makoto's team encountered the weaker version of this boss inside the Rift over there! Two elite soldiers died on the spot after being hit by that thing!" Chief of the Japanese National Police, Akira Oda, grimaced, horrified.

"This is bad… two fire-resistant spear-tentacles and two tentacles that launch acidic fluid. This boss won't be easy. "But it's possible if you two coordinate your attacks carefully." Luna advised firmly.

"And worse—my flame shield didn't block it. It passed right through. But I'll try another new skill I unlocked earlier" Kanna muttered, inspecting her undamaged shield with narrowed eyes.

"Your flame shields might not be able to block liquid-based attacks—including water. You'll have to dodge them entirely. Be careful." Luna explained calmly

Haruto's Perspective

Haruto, now positioned behind the boss and hovering more than five meters above the ground on his Violet Board, called out loudly:

"Madoukai..!"

He extended his left hand toward a spot on the Chaos Beast's back before shouting:

"VIOLET HOOK..!" [Mystic Energy: 70%]

From his left hand, a stream of violet energy shot out—forming a rope-like tether that latched onto the designated target point in an instant. Haruto grabbed hold of the tether and fastened the other end around his waist, attaching it near the center of his abdomen like hooking it to a belt ring.

Then he leapt from the Violet Board as he exclaimed the word:

"PUSH..!"

With that command, the tether instantly yanked him forward, pulling him straight toward the locked-on point. He rocketed through the air, shifting his scythe to his right hand and gripping it with both hands—its blade angled forward.

The monster's massive back loomed into view in a flash and...

VWHHOOOMMM..!

KRAACCKKK..! KRRSSHHHHH..!!

(1 hit) [1735 damage]

Haruto slashed his scythe horizontally from right to left—cutting deep across the rear of Morthamraga's head. Despite the obsidian-like scales covering its body, the oversized blade tore straight through, leaving a wide, vicious gash. Viscous green blood erupted from the wound, spilling down in thick streams.

"Ghrrakh..!" The beast let out a guttural sound of pain.

Using the back of the creature's neck as leverage, Haruto kicked off and leapt backward, lifting the scythe high over his head as he prepared a second strike.

"HEAAA..!" he roared, swinging the blade downward toward its upper back as he descended.

But Morthamraga's spear-tipped tentacles weren't going to let him.

They whipped around in an instant, both lances intercepting his attack.

TRRAANNGG..!

Not only did they block his strike, they also struck back—clashing against the scythe with force, knocking Haruto backward and sending him tumbling through the air.

Seizing the opportunity, Morthamraga swung its colossal tail. From Haruto's right, the tail swept in with terrifying speed. Like someone swatting an insect with a giant paddle.

"Aaarrghh..!" Haruto cried out in pain as the blow launched him sideways through the air, the impact sending a violent shock through his entire body.

"HARUTO-KUUUNN..!!" Kanna panickly screamed from above.

Struggling to regain control, Haruto spun his scythe upward and used its momentum to perform a backward flip. He landed hard but managed to stabilize, driving the blade into the ground to brake his fall.

Damn... my Condition just dropped a lot... Haruto winced, still on one knee, pain radiating through his body.

That tail strike hurt like hell...

"But at least I'm still alive. One of Sergeant Makoto's elite soldiers died instantly from a direct tail hit in that military footage... his whole body was crushed. This Sacred Madougu... it is really incredible." he muttered through clenched teeth, thankful he was still alive.

Kanna's Perspective

Kanna's eyes flared with anger when she saw Haruto being attacked.

"YOU BASTAAAARD..!! I WON'T FORGIVE YOUUU..!!" she shouted furiously.

Noticing the monster's spear-tipped tentacles still occupied behind its body, Kanna didn't waste the opportunity.

"Madoukai..!"

"FLAME SHOT..!" [Mystic Energy: 60%]

Seven blazing fireballs erupted from her kicks, streaking rapidly toward Morthamraga's front torso as it stood upright like a colossal cobra. The monster's spear-tentacles failed to intercept in time, leaving its torso wide open and...

BWWHHOOSSHHH..!

(5 hits) [2134 damage]

Multiple fireballs hit their mark directly, engulfing its front body in searing flames. Only a few of the fireballs were deflected, blocked late by its tentacles.

"Xhraazgh..!" Morthamraga growled in a deep, guttural voice.

"YEAH!! GOT YOU THIS TIME..! TAKE THAT!" Kanna cried out triumphantly, relief flooding her voice.

When the smoke and flames dispersed, the monster's front torso appeared scorched. Even its obsidian-like scales were burned. Yet, it stood completely still—unfazed.

Suddenly, the beast began to speak—chanting strange, guttural words that no one could understand.

"GRAX UX: KRASH VOKH..!" Morthamraga's voice boomed with a resonance that chilled the air.

"It's… speaking?!" Kanna gasped, eyes wide.

"Was that... a language?" Haruto murmured, clearly unsettled.

"Is that its own language..? Some kind of ancient speech?" Luna's voice trembled with confusion, just as stunned as the others.

Then, a ghostly mystic circle appeared above the monster's head—transparent, eerie, and pulsing with an unnatural white glow. It radiated downward, bathing Morthamraga's entire body in light.

In seconds, the scorched wounds across its torso faded. Even the deep slash wound Haruto had carved into the back of its head began to seal itself shut—flesh reforming, scales regrowing. Its regenerating!

Then, as suddenly as it had appeared, the mystic circle vanished—leaving not a single trace behind.

[Morthamraga 5000 LP Restored]

"IT HEALED ITSELF..?!" Luna shouted in shock.

"It can HEAL?!" Kanna's voice rose even louder, disbelief evident.

"IT CAN HEAL ITSELF?! SERIOUSLY..??!!" Haruto shouted loudest of all, clearly taken aback.

**

Inside The Conference Room 2nd Floor

Stunned silence filled the strategic conference room as the VIPs and high-ranking officers witnessed the creature's sudden regeneration in several monitors.

The Governor of Tokyo Saeki Kudou gripped the edge of the table in disbelief, uttering weakly, "It healed itself? How can that enormous creature possess such terrifying regenerative ability?"

Vice Marshal Shoji Arakawa slammed a fist down onto the desk, voice strained with tension, "Damn it! This changes everything! If it can regenerate like that, those two are in serious danger!"

"Haruto, Kanna, this boss is truly problematic. You must use attacks that inflict massive, continuous damage! Keep striking heavily and relentlessly so its healing can't keep up!" Luna urgently advised them both.

"Also—be extra cautious when it starts speaking," Luna added quickly.

"We don't know what that language is or what happens each time it chants something."

"Oh, and I've also enabled a direct voice communication system between the two of you through the built-in Madou Comms installed in your right gloves—linked through my Astral Examiner Device. Think of it like a group voice chat. Anyone using a Sacred Madougu will automatically be connected and can speak with each other without needing me to relay messages."

"Just focus your intent and speak, and the system will automatically connect your voice to the target recipient. All three of us are now in the same voice channel." Luna explained.

**

Haruto's Perspective

"Madou Comms, huh..? Got it, Luna. Kanna-chan, can you hear me clearly?" Haruto asked from his distant position, testing the new system.

"Yes, Haruto-kun, I hear you! Luna, this is amazing! Thank you!" Kanna replied enthusiastically, clearly happy to communicate without shouting or straining her voice.

"Haruto-kun, are you okay? How's your Wielder Condition? Are you hurt anywhere?" she asked with concern.

"I'm fine, Kanna-chan. My Wielder Condition dropped by thirty percent. That tail hit hurt a lot, but I'm okay." Haruto replied, trying to reassure her.

"Please be careful, Haruto-kun. Don't take unnecessary risks. So, what's the new strategy to deal with this thing?" she asked carefully.

"Alright, listen closely. Your role stays the same. Attack from the front, keep its attention focused on you near its head. Stay agile, strike whenever you find an opening. I'll attack from behind or from the sides. But stay alert at all times, Kanna-chan." Haruto explained concisely.

Suddenly, Morthamraga twisted its massive head toward the left, staring directly behind itself—right at Haruto. Its glowing crimson eye focused intensely, as if to paralyze his movements. In the next instant, a massive shadow appeared from his right.

Reacting just in time, Haruto leapt quickly to the left, performing a swift side-flip and landing safely. In that moment…

DWEEAARRR..!!

The colossal tail smashed into the ground beside him, creating a huge crater with a deafening boom. Dirt, gravel, and smoke exploded everywhere.

"It's started moving again! Kanna-chan, now!" Haruto urgently signaled Kanna to reinitiate her distraction attack.

Lobby and Hallways

"HHHAAHH..!"

Gasps and murmurs of disbelief filled the crowded university lobby as the young man suddenly conjured a luminous purple board midair.

"Did he just—summon a hoverboard?" A male student stammered, jaw hanging wide open, completely stunned.

In the back, a group of young adults erupted into frantic chatter:

"He looks like a fusion of the Silver Surfer and something from a sci-fi anime!"

"He's flying straight toward that thing's blind spot!"

Moments later, another wave of astonishment swept through the lobby as the unknown young woman activated two fiery shields, hovering freely beside her arms.

"Did she just summon... shields made of fire?!" a forty-something university professor stepped back instinctively, disbelief etched across his face.

Keiko Honda, Metro TV's on-scene reporter, clutched her microphone tightly. Her voice trembled with excitement, broadcasting live:

"Ladies and gentlemen, we are witnessing actual floating shields made of fire! I don't even know how to describe it—it feels unreal, but this is happening right now, live in front of my eyes!"

Moments later, the crowd saw the scythe-wielding hero leap through the air, launching a violet energy tether that latched onto the colossal monster's back—and then slash through the rear of its head in one swift, shocking blow.

The hallway exploded in cheers as the mysterious young man visibly wounded the monster.

A female police officer instinctively gripped her tonfa baton and shouted, "That maneuver. It's almost exactly like the ODM Gear strike from Attack on Titan!"

"He injured it! He actually cut the monster!" a female college student shouted, clinging onto her friend's arm.

A security guard punched the air enthusiastically, "That giant monster is bleeding!"

Aya Shina, Tokyo TV reporter struggled to keep her professional tone, openly astonished,

"Viewers! The unidentified hero just inflicted serious damage on the creature using a maneuver resembling the famous Attack on Titan's 3D maneuver gear! This is unbelievable!"

Nearby, a group of influencers screamed into their livestream feeds:

"He's flying around using a hook and blade just like the Survey Corps!"

"It's like watching Levi Ackerman's iconic strike in real life—astonishing!"

But the elation didn't last.

When the monster suddenly began healing its wounds, gasps of horror swept through the crowd like a crashing wave. The excitement twisted instantly into dread. People who were cheering moments ago now stared, silent and pale.

"HEY MONSTER, THAT'S CHEATING!" several people shouted at once.

"He's healing?!" a young man near the window shouted, eyes glued to the scene outside. "No way—that thing can actually, regenerate?!"

Aya Shina, gripping her microphone tightly, struggled to maintain professionalism, panic edging into her voice, "The monster has somehow healed its wounds. Our heroes must now face an even more difficult fight."

Back to Main Parking Lot

Kanna's Perspective

Hovering a few meters above the ground, Kanna remained on the frontlines, tasked with confronting the boss head-on.

"Madoukai..!!"

She spreads her legs and shouted:

"FLAME BLADES..!!" [Mystic Energy: 40%]

The fire beneath her boots shifted shape, stretching and solidifying into twin blades of semi-transparent flame—each one meter in length, extending from the tip of her feet.

In that moment, Kanna embodied a true aerial fighter—using her hands for defense (Flame Shields) and legs for offense (Flame Blades). Wasting no time, she surged forward, flying straight toward Morthamraga's head.

The boss responded with its two spear-like tentacles, thrusting them at her with lightning speed. Kanna raised her arms, her flame shields intercepting the strikes. As the tentacles crashed into her defenses, she countered—swinging her legs with precision, slashing with the flame blades attached to her boots...

TRAANNGG..!

TIINNGG..!

WHHEEERRR..!

CLAANNG..!

Sparks exploded in the air as blade clashed with spear. Kanna and Morthamraga exchanged rapid blows—strike for strike, movement for movement. She used her flame shields to parry and deflect while swinging her fiery blades to slice at the monster's head or sever its tentacles. But the spear tentacles were fast—blocking and dodging every time.

Then, the monster's other two tentacles—grotesque and shaped like massive jaws—reared back.

"ZHAH..!" Morthamraga hissed, snarling in a guttural, otherworldly voice.

With no warning, the tentacles fired twin streams of corrosive acid straight at her.

Kanna spun through the air and twisted away just in time, narrowly avoiding the deadly liquids. The acid sizzled as they passed, and she knew,

Those attacks couldn't be blocked.. she realized grimly, watching the sizzling green fluid burn the air behind her.

She dove and rolled, evading again as another spray came her way.

My shields can't stop liquid-based attacks… I have to rely on reflexes!.. she thought, maneuvering skillfully through the air.

Then again—the clash resumed. Blades and spears met in the sky, flame and steel locked in a deadly midair duel. Every time Morthamraga lunged, Kanna countered. Every time she attacked, it blocked or twisted away.

But she didn't stop. She couldn't afford to.

Because behind the boss monster,

Haruto was preparing his next move…
