Chapter 34 - SysDi 34: Strangers 2

He didn't see any weapons on those people, so they were probably just want to get an abandoned house. For what purpose? Evan has no idea. It's not like the leader mentioned anything about that.

Like what he did earlier, Evan approached the window slowly, opening it and then climbing down. He got the basket from the side and began to walk towards the forest.

It's a good thing that he had done so. He could pretend he is just coming back home from getting some berries.

After he got some berries, he runs back towards the house. He opened the front door and stops in his tracks as he made eye contact with the two men, who were busy looking through the things.

Gulping the nervousness, he tilts his head at the side. "What are you doing here?"

The two men looked at each other before looking at Evan.

To them, they were looking at a harmless kid with a basket with some berries in it.

To Evan, they both are strangers that might get a hit on an innocent looking kid like he is. Not to mention that he is living a little further closer to the forest than the town center. That just means that Evan looks poor in comparison to them that came from the Tigris noble family.

Whether they are recruits of the family or part of their family by bloodline, it didn't matter much.

The man behind the leader scratched the back of his head. "Boss, looks like this isn't an abandoned house."

Evan pretends to look offended. "Hey! That wasn't very nice. Just because there is no lock you can just barge in unannounced. The house isn't that messy to look abandoned either. I had just asked you what you're doing here in my parents' house. What is it?" He asked, looking at them both.

With no response yet, Evan's eyebrows furrowed and he lifted the basket of berries he had hand-picked earlier. In his haste, he only got half of it. "You looks like one of mother's clients for the jam. Is that why you're here?"

Having been offered an out, the leader nods his head almost enthusiastically. "Yes, little kid. I'm looking for your mom to buy some more jam since the market doesn't seem to have anything...good."

Evan raised an eyebrow at the response he had gotten. "You should wait for later. I'm still picking them from the bushes. Didn't mom tell you that I would be delivering it by midday?"

The leader sighs a little. "Little kid, we are looking for something... Do you know a coin that looks shiny and blue in this area?"

There is a relief that came through Evan's shoulder. It is a good thing that they really aren't dangerous. If they were, he knew that he wouldn't still be standing here and Evan would have been killed.

He thinks about it. "I'm not sure... there are some on the opposite side of the town center in the west. There's not much here in the east. The closest one here is a little further and they're owned by my friend's parents." He says.

The leader nods his head. "Okay then. Thanks for your help. If you happen to have any other information, go to the town center towards the library and ask the person there for Aoi." He pats Evan's head and left the house with the other man with him.

Evan watched them leave before closing the door. That was weird. He should probably tell his parents to try and put some sort of lock on their door. There are a lot of people who has entered on their house without any permission.

It's also very dangerous. For the sake of safety, Evan should probably find a way to have a different dwelling or house that is secure. He hoped this is the last time something like this happens again.

He sighs and made his way back out and into the direction of the forest. He still needs to do as he had said.
