Chapter 28 - SysDi 28: Slowly but Surely

Evan decided that was enough exploring.

He has no idea if there are more dangerous within the path he had taken. And even if there weren't, he is just not going to get there if he had no usage left.

Since he is already mentally exhausted through trial and error, he decided that he had enough exploring today.

For sure this time.

He made sure that he is going back crouching before he is fully out of the corridor, just to be safe. He didn't want to suddenly be surprised by an arrow hitting him at the back while he's not aware.

Evan sees the forked path again, but he completely turned around to get through the corridor he passed by before getting here.

When he is back to the branching paths, he took a deep breath. If he didn't need to use the Simulation Zone too early, he would've gone further instead.

'30 minutes!' Iva announced again, just like it did earlier.

Evan almost jumped at the reminder. The entire corridor is silent that Iva's voice echoing in his head made him jump.

"There are really times when you're too loud. But thanks for the reminder." Evan says as he began making walking again.

'You're welcome!' Iva replies with a short giggle.

Evan began thinking about the entrance exams. Sure, he had been preparing for it even before getting the letter. There were plenty of ways that he had covered his skills down, using his status numbers as his guide, and hoped levelling them up is enough.

In a sense, it was. His improved agility made him able to deal with the slime he had seen on the corridor. The slimes were faster on his first time being in the corridor. But the training and level up made those slower than him now.

Not to mention that if he didn't duck down immediately, an arrow would've killed him. At least he knew that the training wasn't in vain.

However, that was the issue. He had been training but he is about to apply for magical school, the Stardust Academy. Without knowing what they needed as real requirements to see a student's potential, Evan has no choice but to train the same way.

'Sorry, not sorry.'Iva interrupts his thoughts. 'But it does seem like the translation will really be two days. Not of these characters are familiar to me. You will need to do research with me.'

Evan hums. "What kind of research?"

'Language.' Iva replies. 'I need you to go and search languages so I can compare.'

Evan nods his head. Then, that means he needs to go to the library to make the process quicker.

Looks like he really can't skip the reading at any form.

"Okay, I can go to the library today and borrow their computers. I'm not really sure how many languages there are but we'll find out soon."

He made his way upstairs. Because he is used with the upward climb, as well as the immediate darkness after reaching the certain part of the stairs, he didn't stumble anymore.

Evan reached the top stairs and made his way back to their house. He glanced at one of the books he had brought back, sighs, and brings the halfway finished one. The book didn't have anything he needed anyway.

He checked the time before he left home. For the numerous things he had done for the day, it seems there is still plenty of time for him to go around even before dinner.

He soon found himself in front of the library. He greets Mrs. Gray, the grandma librarian. He placed the book in front of her, returning it. Without another word, he made his way towards the direction where the computers were.

Evan didn't see the person that helped him here before, but it's not really important anyway. What's important is what he is here for.

He opened the computer and began his searches. Gasping at the amount of languages that exists, he couldn't believe there really was so many.

"82 languages..." Evan mutters to himself. "Most of them extinct and less than 5 were only a few millennium in age. Isn't that too recent...?"

He continued skimming through articles that were too heavy worded, finding out that Himea, the most used at current time, were one of the five recent languages.

Not to mention that Daeglinns and Oeglinns also have their own languages and theirs were older than Himea but was still included in the recent. They were separated by dialects, but they are considered distinctly different so Daeglinns have seven languages and Oeglinns had 2. What's more, only one of each races' languages were extinct.

Maybe there are still some Daeglinns and Oeglinns currently living at this time?

Evan shook his head. He hasn't seen one of either. No one has either. His parents told him that they were gone for ages, only their descendants live.

He looks at the chart, scrolling down to see each languages with sample structures.

'There!' Iva announced and Evan stopped scrolling. 'Laine script is what that says right?'

Evan's eyes scanned the page to find out what Iva was talking about, when he sees it he hums. 'Yeah that says Laine script.'

He looks at the sample sentence. His eyebrows furrowed as he tried to remember what the writing looked like. There was a lot of curls and it was almost similar to what Iva was talking about.

He glanced at those with scripts in their names. 'It could be a script. I'll move to the script ones.'

Once he did, there were only 4 of them, which are all extinct by now. Evan pointed at the second option, right before Laine. 'Exiel script seems to fit, doesn't it?' he tells Iva in his mind.

Iva's groan echoed in his mind. 'Exiel? Ah- pain. But that seems right.'

'What's wrong with Exiel?' Evan asked her, curiously.

'I don't like Exiel script. That's it.' Iva replied. 'But I can get started on the translation. Can you go to the alphabet page for me?'
