Chapter 5 - A Totally Normal Lunch Date

I can't believe I get to follow behind a girl as pretty as her, to a date of all things! No I can't be so excited about this thing since she's being pretty calm herself.

Usually the guy is supposed to ask the girl out in this situations but she beat me to it so I'll have to be calm moving forward. I guess she didn't really ask as a date though did she?

It was more of a do you want to join me for lunch as a friend type of way, right?

Fumiko leads him to a small cafe with lots of cute decor around it, flowers outside were blooming and the building has color to it. It wasn't a black and white, bland type of building but it actually felt comforting to go towards.

She opens up the door. "I love coming here so it's nice to have someone with me who can enjoy it." Fumiko says with a bit of excitement in her voice.

"It'll definitely be nice, I haven't really been out like this in awhile." Saito replies with a bit of nervousness in his voice.

It doesn't take long for them to find a table as he takes a seat across from her. Some small whispers go about the room but this is pretty normal for her.

She got use to people saying things whenever she stopped by here since it was her favorite cafe shop. A place where she can enjoy some peace before getting back to the normal life outside.

They both order something small to drink and a sandwich but her eyes continue to watch Saito. "So how come I don't see you saving people more often or out there doing something?" Fumiko asks with a straightforward tone.

"I wasn't born with any sort of powers or abilities to help people." Saito answers bluntly.

Before this luck system woke up from within me I was basically a nobody who couldn't do anything. I don't even know if I could've saved that guy from the rubble he was crushed under if this thing wasn't active.

Physically I was never the strongest, I grew up without powers or abilities, and my family is all gone for the most part.

The server sits down the drinks before heading back to get the food. "I saw you save a man who was crushed, that screams out hero to me." Fumiko says with a small smile across her face.

I did save that guy but she doesn't know that it was because of this system. Even then I still struggled to lift the damn thing off of him...

No matter how hard I try to get in the best physical shape I can, it was never enough for me to make a difference so I stopped trying. Why try when we have all the heroes we have to cover the difference in the world.

"I got lucky with freeing him." Saito replies with a small chuckle.

Hero this hero that, why would I ever want to be a hero? There's so much that comes with it on a day to day basis that I'd be stressed out.

Especially with the type of companies that try to acquire the heroes when they catch their attention.

She takes a few sips before speaking again. "You do seem like quite a lucky guy. Not everyone gets a chance to talk with someone like me so casually. But it was me who approached you so it's quite odd." Fumiko says with a bit of shock in her voice.

It kind of went past me for a minute there that originally it was her who approached me at the park too. I've never once approached her in the times we've encountered each other.

Was my luck always this good to begin with, or did something trigger when I met her?

It's truly quite an interesting thing to think about when it comes down to the way this system seems to work. A system entirely based on luck is quite a bizarre thing to have awaken.

Everyone has luck in reality so couldn't anybody have gotten this system? If we're going off of chances that is.

"I could go if you're having second thoughts." Saito speaks with the nervousness revealing itself in his voice even more.

She laughs for a few moments as she looks towards him. "I'm not, it's just different, but in a good way. I believe that for now at least." Fumiko assures him.

Fumiko is the kind of girl you'd see with the popular crowd in school who would typically ignore a guy like me who keeps to himself. So for her to be like this with me is kind of nice.

It throws out all the depressing thoughts I've had over the last few months about my life and where to go with it. I've thought about helping out with some of those big companies that support heroes but it's too much.

I don't want to help make advertisements for them or to help with recruiting them, that's just not a job for me. But with this system I might not ever have to worry about money or danger.

I'll become strong enough that I won't ever need someone to save me from any sort of problems. It'll be quite the accomplishment for me to achieve so I will do what I need to make that happen.

"I'm glad I got to do this today. It seems nice every time we've encountered each other but yesterday was just bad timing from whatever happened to that building." Saito says while looking back on it.

I don't think she'll tell me much about what she deals with in the hero life but I guess it doesn't hurt to ask. Well I didn't really ask but kind of implied it in a way.

"It was natural causes yesterday, just a malfunction in the architecture that caused an explosion. At least that's how it was put to me, I didn't see anyone causing any problems when I arrived." Fumiko responds while still keeping her joyful demeanor.

I guess it's good that it wasn't anything more than natural causes.
