[Ding!] A new System has been granted to you! [Ultimate Luck System: Unlocked] A system...? I didn’t even know these things still existed. I thought they were just rumors from when system era existed. I thought the government eventually found a way to shut them down... [Do you wish to learn more?] Y/N — Please select an option. > Y [Welcome, User: Saito Yoshihiro] [Initializing Probability Sync...] [Your fate is now bound by chance.] Saito Yoshihiro was just another nobody in a world where heroes are ranked, sponsored, and carefully trained from birth. Born without any elemental affinity, combat skill, or physical advantage — he was expected to live out his life quietly while supporting the other heroes. But when a dead System suddenly awakens inside him, he's granted the power to twist luck itself. Critical hits become inevitable. Death traps become jackpots. The worse the odds, the stronger he becomes. Those left in the world with a system would be seen as unique or a problem depending on what they have. This means that Saito would become a target for recruitment from big corporations or even the target of jealous heroes. But what else lurks in the shadows of this world driven by heroes? Chapter 1 - Ding!

Heroes are everything in this world, people always look up to them and praise them as they continue to rise in our society. You have to be lucky enough to be born with some sort of ability, power, or something elemental.

It wasn't always like this though, in the past people use to rely on something way different or at least that's what we were told.

I wasn't one of those people who got the chance to be born with traits of a hero, nope.

A young man sits quietly on a bench, dressed in a sharp suit and tie. His jet-black hair brushes just past his shoulders, slightly tousled, while his piercing blue eyes reflect a calm intensity beneath the city lights.

People pass by while looking at their phones, focusing on the media since most people posted about the heroes.

A voice could be heard from a video on a screen across from him, they usually had a few of them around to keep people up to date.

It was a woman from one of the big companies that recruits heroes. "Atlas has climbed the ranking recently, securing his spot at ranking number 8. Showing people that it is possible to reach the top ten with hard work and dedication." The Woman continues to speak.

I always forget that rankings are a thing for the heroes of our world since they need a way to determine strength. I've tried my best not to pay attention to these things so much since it just drags me down.

I'm just a nobody who's stuck watching everything from the sidelines as these guys all continue to climb to the top. Saving people from all sorts of attacks, accidents, and obviously some staged events.

Not everyone gets the chance to genuinely save someone from something so if the companies think the hero is worth it, they'll stage something.

I honestly think it's hard to figure out who's truly a hero or not, especially in a world where people can help them grow within these companies. I've never understood what the point is of a company handling them.

There's a lot more to it from what I understand but there's no reason for me to be thinking about it.

A girl begins to walk past him, immediately interrupting his thoughts. Her curly blonde hair, green hair, and even her casual clothes caught him off guard. Most people passing through here were usually dressed up in some way or another.

I don't think I've ever seen her before, do many people like her even come through here? I'm not even sure.

She moves a piece of her hair out of the way as her gaze shifts towards him. "Aren't you dressed up all nice haha." She speaks with a joyful tone to her voice.

She's definitely not from around here since most people are dressed quite formally around here. I'm surprised she didn't notice that when she came this way.

Most people are dressed up around here because it's a business district with quite a big work force. I'm still young but I've been trying my luck with helping out in the industry.

It's been pretty pointless so far, no one will hire me since I'm only 19.

He starts to notice people whispering around them as they pass by. "I can't believe lady Celeste is really here right now." Someone says with excitement as they pass by.

I could hear quite a few people talking about this girl as they walk by but it still didn't mean all that much to me.

"It's just a business district, most people are dressed up because they work around here." He speaks up while keeping a calm tone.

She just smiles before taking a seat next to him. "I'm Fumiko, and you are?" Her joyful tone continues to plague the air.

"Saito Yoshihiro, but I guess you can just call me Saito." He replies.

I've not really introduced myself in awhile... Other than job interviews lately but that's because I've not had any luck with anything. It's actually been hell lately so I don't know what I'll do at this point.

She leans back on the bench and looks up at the sky, a beautiful shade of blue with some clouds going throughout the sky. "I'm glad you don't seem to know who I am, it's peaceful to talk with someone who isn't bombarding me with questions." Fumiko speaks with a bit of relief in her voice.

Even with all the people talking about her as they pass by, I never once caught on to who she really was. It just seems like she's one of those popular heroes but I don't know anything else.

He just looks down towards the ground. "I take it you are a hero, not that it matters." Saito responds with a calmness in his voice.

Lady Celeste they called her, I don't think I've ever heard that name before so I'm kind of clueless.

Her eyes shifted in his direction once more. "You'd be correct. My hero ranking is 3 right now, but I'm sure it will change." She says with a bit of joy still in her voice.

The 3rd highest ranking hero is sitting next to me on a park bench talking as if everything is completely normal, how odd. I haven't really talked with heroes before so this is a new experience for me.

It's the closest thing I'll ever have to the hero lifestyle after all.

BOOOOOM!!!! An explosion goes off nearby and Fumiko immediately stands up to see what's going on. "I'm sure we'll meet again Saito, I have to go." Fumiko says before rushing off.

He watches as she runs off, disappearing within a matter of seconds. That truly is what a third ranking hero is like after all.

At least that was something... I don't really know how to feel after that entire interaction.

But his thoughts are interrupted once more as debris comes flying his direction. "Shit! Shit!! Shit!!!" Saito begins to panic as he wraps his hands around his head.

I don't understand what's going on right now but I thought these systems were long gone, ever since the government found a way to terminate them. Why am I suddenly being given such a thing now?

On top of that, everything around me is frozen while this thing calibrates.... What's going on?!?!
