THE DEVIL'S BRIDE
Episode 17: The Fire in Her Veins
By Rapwizzy Debaron
Evelyn couldn't sleep.
Her dreams were loud with screams, and Kael's death haunted every shadow.
She stood in the ritual chamber, where flame runes lined the walls.
Lucien lit each torch with a flick of his hand. "Are you sure you want to do this?"
"I need to know," she whispered. "If the fire inside me… was placed there."
He hesitated. "Once this is done, there's no unknowing."
"I don't care," she said. "I'm tired of being the only one in the dark."
Lucien nodded and placed the crystal vial in her palm.
It pulsed — the blood memory of her real mother.
Not the one who raised her.
But the one who gave her to the flames.
---
As the fire swirled around her, Evelyn dropped to her knees.
Visions exploded in her mind.
A woman. Wild eyes. Hair like fire. Laughing as kingdoms burned.
She wasn't human. Not even close.
And in her arms… a baby wrapped in ash.
Evelyn.
"She's the key," the woman whispered. "Born of fire and storm. She will finish what I started."
The vision shifted — the woman screaming, ripped from her child.
"Hide her!" another voice yelled. "Before the devil finds out!"
---
Evelyn woke gasping.
Lucien caught her, held her upright.
"What did you see?" he asked.
"I'm not just fire," she said breathlessly. "I'm storm too. Lightning. Thunder. Destruction."
Lucien's eyes widened.
"The stormblood line," he whispered. "It's real."
She nodded. "And Seraphina knows. That's why she fears me."
Lucien stood. "You're more than her equal now."
"No," Evelyn said. "I'm her end."
---
In the shadows of the forest, the healer's son stared into the dark.
A voice spoke in his mind.
"She remembers now."
The child smiled faintly.
And behind him, the trees burned.
---
To be continued…
Evelyn's origin.
The storm within.
And a child destined to awaken something the world forgot.
