A storm brewed as they traveled.
Not in the sky — but within Evelyn.
She stared into the fire that night, Kael asleep beside her, Lucien sharpening his blade nearby.
Her fingers still trembled.
Lucifer's words echoed in her skull.
"You'll have to kill her."
Kill Seraphina. The fallen queen. The woman who raised her in shadows, who whispered lies dressed as lullabies.
The woman who cursed her life before she ever lived it.

Evelyn's dreams that night were filled with her.
Seraphina. In a white temple, blood on her lips.
Crowned in fire.
Laughing as the heavens fell.
But then… Evelyn saw more.

Flashback — The Beginning
The Realm of Aetheria once shimmered with light.
Before war. Before ruin.
Seraphina had been an oracle — the youngest ever chosen by the stars.
Gifted. Worshipped.
But she was not born from privilege.
She was born from pain.
Her mother had been a servant. Her father, a stranger with a crown and a secret.
When Seraphina spoke her first prophecy — that the gods would fall by their own pride — they branded her a heretic.
They silenced her.
Imprisoned her.
Betrayed her.

For ten years, she rotted beneath the holy palace. Her visions tormented her, her screams ignored.
Until she changed.
Until she tore open the veil between realms and walked out untouched — no longer a prophet…
…but a weapon.
A woman reborn.

Back in the present, Evelyn jolted awake.
The memory wasn't her own.
It was implanted — shoved into her mind like a seed meant to twist.
Lucien noticed. "You saw something?"
"Her past," she breathed. "I think… she made me see it."
"Why?"
Evelyn stood, her eyes burning.
"To confuse me. To make me pity her."
"Do you?"
Evelyn looked into the night sky.
"I pity the girl she was. Not the monster she became."

At the edge of camp, Kael stirred.
His voice was barely a whisper. "She's coming."
Lucien moved toward him. "Who?"
Kael's eyes glowed with a faint silver.
"The woman with the broken heart."
Evelyn's blood turned to ice.
"Seraphina."
