The hotel room was too quiet. Evie had grown used to the hum of silence, but today, it sounded sharper. It felt a lot more unforgiving. Just like the rest of the world seemed to be towards her.
She tried to shake off thoughts of the café disaster but they still lingered. Tommy had promised to get to the bottom of things but she wasn't holding her breath for any positive feedback. Just thinking about how earnest he sounded made her sigh.
