The engine idled like a purring threat. Callum Parker sat in a nondescript rental car, parked strategically across from Tommy Mackenzie's penthouse. The morning city hum hadn't reached its full buzz yet. Shadows still clung to the sidewalks, and the sky hadn't decided whether it wanted to be bright or grey.
But Callum wasn't as indecisive. He had already made up his mind.
He lifted a pair of dark binoculars to his eyes, adjusting the focus slowly. His gaze locked on the glinting glass façade of the building across the street.
There she was.
He noted a flash of a soft robe and then a hint of smooth bare legs. His breath caught as Evie stepped into view for just a second before disappearing behind the curtain. But that was all he needed.
Moments later, Tommy Mackenzie appeared behind her, dressed immaculately for work. Even from a distance, Callum could tell that barely a wrinkle creased his suit.
"Looking like a damn boy scout," Callum scoffed.
