Chapter 9 - A Beautiful City, Worth Exploring

'A man sent from the Lands of God... But according to rumors, he was expelled from his family. Why send him here?'

'A reject, not even strong. Did they send him here to look down on us?'

They weren't happy with what they saw before them.

Louis stared at them for a moment. He knew they despised him, and he honestly had no interest in belonging to this family.

If he stayed here, he would be manipulated by those above him, and these individuals would also despise him until he proved himself worthy. However, he really didn't want that.

Why waste such precious time proving himself worthy of this family? Although his body still harbored many feelings for the family, somehow, they seemed to have faded a little in recent days.

His feelings for Earth prevailed, and what he wanted most now was to prove his power and make a name for himself. He didn't want to prove to this family that he was worthy, because they weren't worthy.

So, he made a decision.

"Honestly, I'm not very interested in belonging to your family. So, you can ignore me and tell me where I can buy a place to live. Other than that, you don't need to do anything else," he said.

Two of them looked at each other in shock.

"If we do that, won't we get in trouble with the Gods?" one of them asked, lowering his voice.

"No, you'll probably be doing them a favor. I don't want anything to do with the Lockwards from now on, so don't bother with me," Louis replied.

"If that's the case..." The man in the middle took out some keys and a map and handed them to Louis.

"Then live in this small mansion; it's located in the southern part of town."

Louis nodded. "How much does it cost?"

"Huh?"

"The mansion, how much does it cost?" he asked again, emphasizing his words.

The man was taken aback for a moment, but quickly replied, "It's 20 million Jens."

Louis nodded without thinking too much about it and took out one of the money cards he had bought from the System, which contained exactly 20 million, and held it in his fingers.

"Give me the papers for the mansion and let's finish this transaction."

As a true God of Money, he wasn't going to accept something for free, because there's nothing free in this world. But, at the same time, he wasn't going to buy something that was only being given to him in name.

He wasn't stupid.

The three in front of him were shocked by his attitude, which was so... carefree and calm. Was he being arrogant?

How could he act so arrogant when he had just been kicked out of the family?

They were even sending him to a small, dirty mansion on the outskirts of the city and charging him a whopping 20 million, and he just accepted it without question!

'Is he an idiot, or is he just too cunning and there's something we're not seeing?'

Of course, it wasn't that he was too bright in this case; he was just trying to get rid of this family.

Despite his doubts, the man in the middle took out the papers for the villa and gave them to him in exchange for the 20 million.

Louis bought a set of system utilities, which included various tools, and among them was a feature to erase old ink. He used this feature to erase the signature ink and overwrite it with the new signature that would now belong to him.

Then he smiled.

"Good. The transaction is complete. I hope I won't be disturbed."

Then Louis left without looking back.

-

As he walked through the streets, Louis found himself in a world that was new to him—a very exciting and interesting world that he wanted to experience, as it awakened in him a desire to see the unknown.

An exotic city unfolded before his eyes.

Sturdy buildings made of ancient rocks occasionally peeked out, reminiscent of the Middle Ages, while new, solid stone constructions, distinct from the first, were frequently visible among what appeared to be a reconstruction of a large city.

The houses and buildings had wooden frames and sloping roofs, with lanterns hanging on every corner. They looked as if they had been there for a long time and appeared to be gas lanterns, but in reality, it was magic that kept them lit.

In the district of the city where he was, the Upper District, castles could be seen in the distance. Presumably, he had left one of them, only from the back. They were beautifully constructed with black, white, and gray bricks.

Although this gray seemed more like smoke and soot from the industries in the distance.

There was also a large cathedral that could be seen from everywhere he went.

Occasionally, he had to cross drawbridges, which made him realize that there were several streams in the city, perhaps some of which had been artificially created or with magic.

Something exotic he saw in this part of the city were carriages pulled by dark-colored horses with hooves that glowed blue and green and small fish scales on their backs.

Some breathed fire from their mouths, while others, few in number, seemed to run on fire, their hooves ablaze.

They were not as powerful as those he had seen in the Land of God, nor nearly as large, but they were beautiful in their own right.

They raced against some distinctive steam-powered vehicles.

The beautiful contrast he saw between the Middle Ages, the Victorian era, and magic made his heart race.

This city... was beautiful.

But his thoughts were interrupted when he arrived at the area where he was to live.

Here, industries and factories roared day and night, with smoke from them staining the walls of all the buildings. The smoke was so thick that it could be smelled in the air.

If you breathed deeply, this smoke would enter your lungs, causing severe damage sooner rather than later, because it was simply too much.

The smoke was so thick that it appeared to be fog.

'This contrast... It's horrible,' thought Louis.

The buildings here looked grayer and more repetitive, made of poorer materials. The chimneys still seemed to be slowly smoking, despite the concentration of smoke throughout the area.

Perhaps because of the time of day, there was no one walking on the road in this area, which allowed him to reach his destination more quickly.

As he approached the mansion, he noticed that the entire area had a slight smell of oil, metal, and coal, which made it a bit unpleasant to live in.

But when he saw his mansion, he was surprised.

"It's much better than I expected."

The mansion appeared large from the outside and had a garden large enough to build another house, but it was overgrown with weeds. It was obvious that it hadn't been cleaned in a long time, as his shoes were covered in dust just from walking down the hallway leading to the mansion.

Outside, there was nothing but overgrown bushes, so he quickly went inside.
