"What in the world!?" Nigun and the members of the Sunlight Scripture exclaimed in unison, shock evident on their faces as a dazzling white energy barrier suddenly confined the battlefield.
Nigun quickly dispatched some of his most agile subordinates to investigate the barrier's edge. After they returned with reports confirming that it was impossible to penetrate by any means, Nigun's anger reached its peak. He glared sharply at Kael, who stood not far away, an aura of hostility radiating from his entire being.
Without even needing to ask, Nigun could guess that the other side was afraid that he and his forces would escape once they realized their true strength. Therefore, the mysterious magic caster had deliberately unleashed this powerful siege magic. Otherwise, why would he wait until all the Sunlight Scripture members had gathered around the village before activating it?
"You truly underestimate us," Nigun growled through gritted teeth, his eyes blazing. "In that case, I will let you taste the bitterness of digging your own grave with your foolish actions!"
At this point, Nigun also made a drastic decision. With a swift movement, he retrieved a magic crystal that sealed a seventh-tier Angel Summon from within the magic item pouch hanging at his waist. This was his last trump card.
Intense holy light once again spread around them. Following a summoning ceremony identical to the previous one, a second Archangel of Majesty appeared on the battlefield, this time standing tall to fight for the Sunlight Scripture!
"Archangel! Destroy the powerful enemy standing before you!" Nigun commanded the celestial being in a slightly exaggerated tone, trying to hide his nervousness behind fiery rhetoric. Amidst the cheers of excitement and faith from the Slane Theocracy members, the newly summoned Archangel of Majesty flapped its luminous wings and stepped forward gracefully yet menacingly, ready to battle the Archangel of Majesty summoned by Enri.
Kael's eyes glowed with a purplish light as he observed the battlefield intently, his attention shifting from Enri to the upcoming clash. He was not surprised to see a second Archangel of Majesty appear.
Since the summoning magic used was fundamentally the same, even if the magic sealing crystal used by Enri had more advanced manufacturing technology than the one stored by the Church, the basic power of the two Archangels of Majesty should not be too different.
Furthermore, as a summoner, Nigun had a slight advantage over Enri because he possessed a special ability unique to the natives of the new world - innate supernatural power.
Innate supernatural power was somewhat similar to special skills in a game, but its appearance was random and unpredictable. It was a unique ability that had a certain probability of being awakened by living beings in the new world when they were born.
When it came to the human race, the probability of awakening innate supernatural power was relatively high. It was estimated that about one in 200 native humans in the new world possessed innate supernatural power.
However, most people's innate abilities were very weak and insignificant in battle, such as being able to make grains ripen a few days earlier, having a 70% chance of correctly predicting tomorrow's weather, or accurately knowing the water temperature just by touching it.
Nigun was considered relatively lucky among those born with supernatural power. The effect of his supernatural power was that he could slightly enhance the abilities of the creatures he summoned, giving them a small boost in attributes and power.
Therefore, the fighting strength of the Archangel of Majesty summoned by Nigun was slightly superior to the one summoned by Enri.
If there were no other factors influencing the situation, Nigun might have been correct in his prediction. His Archangel of Majesty would suppress Enri's Archangel of Majesty, while the other Sunlight Scripture members and the Flame Archangels they summoned would attack Enri simultaneously. With the numerical advantage and a slight increase in power, Nigun and his forces would most likely win this battle.
That's what you think, isn't it? Kael thought with a hidden small smile.
Oh! With a calm gesture, Kael raised his hand and chanted a series of powerful buff spells on his own Archangel of Majesty.
Power of Holy Light!
Heavenly Fire!
All Upper Position Abilities Enhanced!
Three layers of shimmering magical light enveloped the body of the Archangel of Majesty summoned by Enri, immediately causing the entire body of the holy creature to burn with a dazzling yet non-damaging holy fire. At the same time, its attack and defense attributes increased drastically, directly suppressing the Archangel of Majesty summoned by Nigun and the surrounding Flame Archangels. The aura of the light creature's power was now far more intimidating.
"Damn it! That guy is playing with us!" Nigun growled through tightly clenched teeth, watching the change in the enemy's power with eyes filled with anger and frustration. His face twisted into a ferocious expression, and his eyes seemed as if they could spew fire.
However, behind the forced snarl of anger, there was a hint of fear he had never felt before. The Archangel of Majesty was their last trump card. If they failed to win this fight, their entire Sunlight Scripture might be annihilated in this remote village!
After thinking quickly for two seconds that felt like an eternity, Nigun immediately issued a command in an urgent tone, "Order all the other angels to move around and attack! We will also approach the enemy in a tight encirclement formation, and be careful to avoid direct attacks from the enemy's Archangel of Majesty!"
"Yes!" the Sunlight Scripture members replied in unison, fully understanding their captain's intentions. They knew they were at a disadvantage, but they did not give up.
Although their own Archangel of Majesty might not be as strong as its opponent at the moment, it was still capable of entangling and stalling for time. They also had more than 20 Flame Archangels on their side, and the teammates who had lost their summons were trying their best to resummon those fiery creatures. Together with themselves and their attack magic, their combat power was clearly still quite significant.
The outcome of this battle was still uncertain!
"My Lord... Lord God!" Enri murmured in an anxious tone, watching the organized and determined actions of the Sunlight Scripture members. She couldn't help but feel a little nervous and turned her head towards Kael beside her, as if seeking help and reassurance.
Tenth-Tier: Goddess' Embrace!
As a soft yet powerful holy light surged around them, a graceful and radiant goddess figure appeared behind Kael and Enri. The goddess crossed her fingers and made a solemn praying gesture, and a shimmering golden energy barrier instantly formed, protecting both of them from any lurking danger.
"Don't worry, Enri. They won't be able to hurt us," Kael said in a calm tone while gently patting the little village girl's shoulder, trying to soothe her nervousness. Then, he reminded her softly, "Let your Archangel of Majesty go back and eliminate those low-level angels first. They are a bigger threat right now."
"I understand, my Lord!" Enri replied with a firm nod, and then acted according to Kael's request, controlling her summoned creature with newfound determination.
The fierce battle continued. The enraged Flame Archangels surrounded the goddess' barrier and slashed with their blazing fiery swords. A little further away, the frustrated Sunlight Scripture members continuously unleashed various attack magic, hoping to break through the goddess' defense.
Hammer of Justice!
Rain of Fire!
Holy Laser!
Stalagmite Assault!
Various spells with beautiful colorful lights gathered together like a deadly rainbow rain, but the moment they touched the golden energy barrier, they disappeared without a trace, like a drop of water falling into the vast ocean, not even creating a ripple. The goddess' defense seemed impenetrable.
Enri's Archangel of Majesty turned gracefully and charged towards the Flame Archangels surrounding them. With each swing of its royal scepter, one after another enemy Flame Angel shattered instantly, turning into particles of light that vanished. The magical fluctuations around Enri's body felt increasingly stronger with each victory.
"It's time!" Kael exclaimed inwardly, feeling a surge of joy as he sensed the high-level job sign [Priest] within [Divinity of the God of Destiny] light up brightly, indicating that Enri had met the requirements for career advancement. He prepared to copy the new job into the girl.
Just at that moment, he noticed a completely unexpected situation, a surprise that made him fall silent for a moment.
"This... Holy Maiden of Light? And Beloved by God, Apostle of Heaven!?" Kael whispered in an astonished tone.
[Holy Maiden of Light], [Beloved by God], and [Valiant Priest] were three high-level faith-based magic caster professions unique to the human race in the game Yggdrasil. All three were the primary professions Kael had planned for Enri when he made her career development plan for his first follower.
Among the three professions, [Holy Maiden of Light] was an exclusive profession for human female players with special divine attribute abilities. When fighting against enemies with negative good and evil attributes, she would gain extremely high attribute value increases, and possessed special skills that could significantly increase the divine attribute damage dealt to enemies.
The other two professions, [Beloved by God] and [Valiant Priest], were similar to [Holy Maiden of Light]. In addition to increasing attributes when fighting against evil, they could also enhance the effects of buffs and healing magic, making them very powerful and versatile healer professions.
Now, the icons representing these three high-level professions were flickering in Kael's mental view, which meant he now had the opportunity to grant one of these three extraordinary professions to Enri!
"Damn it! This is a huge problem, I'm getting a little scared!" Kael muttered, feeling a chill run down his spine as he thought about Enri's strange behavior. The girl seemed to have bypassed all the prerequisites for mid-level careers and directly qualified for high-level careers.
Human players in the game did not have racial levels, and their total career capacity of 100 levels allowed them to acquire various higher-level careers, thus significantly increasing their personal attributes and combat abilities.
Kael's own career structure had been carefully tailored and well-thought-out. However, the final result was only a structure with a total of LV30 basic career levels, LV20 mid-level career levels, and LV50 high-level career levels.
In other words, each of the high-level professions he could possess had reached the upper limit of level 5, and there were only a total of ten high-level professions he could master.
If Enri didn't need to meet the prerequisites for mid-level careers and directly qualified for high-level ones, even if her [Apprentice Priest] career automatically transformed into [Priest LV10] upon reaching level 10, she would still have a total of 90 levels of career capacity remaining to accommodate high-level careers. This meant she potentially had up to 18 high-level careers!
How about I just change her to a mid-level profession? This shameful thought flashed through Kael's mind for a moment, but he immediately shook his head and chose to grant [Holy Maiden of Light] to Enri. It was the most suitable choice for the girl's potential and talents.
When he helped Enri obtain a profession for the first time, the high-level profession sign did not light up. Otherwise, he would have noticed this strange phenomenon back then.
Thinking this way, even if Enri... no, followers transformed from the natives of the new world had a certain ability to ignore career prerequisites, it might not be as severe as he imagined. There might be certain limitations or rules that he hadn't fully understood yet.
Think about it from another perspective, wasn't the purpose of recruiting followers to make them powerful and reliable combat forces?
As for the concern about followers becoming stronger than oneself and thus getting out of control and becoming a nuisance... a strong professional structure did not necessarily mean strong combat effectiveness. Proper equipment, skilled combat techniques, and clever strategies also had to be considered.
There was no advanced equipment readily available in this new world, and the only way for his followers to obtain truly powerful equipment was through him. He had control over the resources and knowledge to create extraordinary items.
And even if all the above precautions and insurance failed, he still had one last trick he could use.
Signing a family contract did require the consent of both parties, but there were no clear restrictions on terminating the contract. Full control over the [Divinity of the God of Destiny] was only in his hands. What he could give to others, he could also take back if necessary.
The emotional fluctuations he had just experienced might just be because he couldn't accept the fact that his follower's professional growth potential seemed greater than his own. However, he had to overcome that selfishness and focus on the greater goal.
