By the end of the day they had arrived in the village. They decided they were going to rest that night and deal with the wolves the night of the following day.
The villagers provided them accomodation, they were very welcoming and appeared to genuinely grateful. They were aware that the money they offered was not enough for most adventurers to accept the mission.
So when they found out somebody had accepted it they were very happy. He noticed that there were very few livestock in the village, they had about 70 sheep, 400 chickens and 15 cows.
Although it sounded like a lot it was not, the people of this world ate a lot of food it was strange and an avarage village in this star world had about a thousand sheep, a few thousand chickens and a few hundred cows, that on avarage.
They also did not have any dogs which was stranger, no sheep owning village would not have a single dog, he was curious to know if it was because of the wolves or not but chose not ask lest he ruins the mood of the villagers.
That night they danced and sang, they killed a few sheeps for a feast, it was truly a jovial mood. For the first time he felt a bit relaxed.
He was lying on his back on the roof of one of the village houses looking at the sky, he could actually see a few of the planet of the solar system he was in.
Somebody landed next to him, it was Cathra who had jumped from the ground. She landed softly barely making a sound, it was a show of her impeccable control of her own body.
She placed her staff on the side and sat next him. So what up? You seem down. Tell me,do you believe in other worlds Cathra? I've been to other worlds Clark, she said with a giggle.
No I don't mean star worlds, I mean a true world, a universe some may call it. Other true worlds? Where did you get that idea? I'm just asking our of curiosity. I don't know, there could be, I mean ours does exist so the possibility of others being theere exist as well no?
However you shouldn't let the church of light hear you say that. Why? Well their doctrine is that there are only two Gods in existence. The god of light and the God of darkness.
They believe the god of light created the world as a sanctuary for his creation and the God of darkness created hell and demons to destroy that creation.
If there are other worlds how can this one be their sanctuary, it would mean they are not special and I don't think they would like that. Mmmm I see, are you not a member of the church?
By the ancients no, I can never get along with those fanatics and I don't always agree with the way they do things. What way is that?
You don't want to know, just don't get on their wrong side, they may be fanatics but they are strong, extremely so. Even the emperor shows them respect.
Infact, some of the seven work with the church. They do? Yep, I heard that some of their knight are personally trained by Charity himself. Charity?
Yes, he is one of the seven, I cannot utter their true name as that forbidden forbidden, they will know and you don't want that believe me, I heard about 200 years ago one of them destroyed an entire kingdom just because their king called them by name.
It is said it was only because of the interference of Chastity that they did not destroy the entire star world. Who was it? I don't know, nobody dares say who it was, not even by their title.
That was my home world by the way before my family moved to this one, I wasn't born back then but my father was, he was child according to him and his mother, my grandmother died in that massacre.
She was a royal mage you know, one who had become a Grand mage. Grand mage? Isn't that like C rank? It is. So even someone that strong died?
Strong? A C rank is no stronger than an ant to the seven, according to father she died without any resistance from a mere gaze from him.
Yeah I don't believe that. Neither did I, but it true that she died, maybe not from a gaze but she alongside an entire army, multiple A ranks and the S rank king could not win against a single person.
Do you know who among the seven it was? No, like I said nobody dares say it and that knowledge was hidden from the public and when I asked my father he shook with fear and fainted.
Is he that terrified of them? I cannot blame him, I have never met any of the seven or any S ranks for that matter but I did meet a B rank expert once.
It was the guild master, just being in his presence was suffocating, the world seemed to bend around him. When I looked at him it felt like I was looking at a walking mountain, stable, majestic and unshakable.
However even someone like that would have to kneel before one of the seven. They sat in silence for a while after that. Tell me Clark, what are your goals in life? Why are you an adventurer?
As a healer you can get a stable job easily, it would allow you to grow, maybe not as fast as being an adventurer but you can grow in strength working in a clergy, so why adventure?
My goals huh? I guess it is to find a way home, back to someone, someone very dear to me, two people actually. Can you tell me who they are? I cannot. Fair. What are yours Cathra? She was quiet for a while then answered.
Strength, I want strength. For what reason do you seek strength? To be free. You don't seem to be in chains to me. We are all in chains Clark.
We may not be able to see or touch those chains but they are there, they are the chains of fate, you see Clark, when you are weak your fate is never truly in your hands, the food you eat, the water you drink, even the breath you take are all in the mercy of those with power and that makes me uneasy so I want to break free of those chains or grab them by my own hands and for that I need power.
He looked at her, her eyes held resolve not less that his own. For the first time in this world he felt respect for someone, true respect not born of their power but their will. I suppose you are right.
