Chapter 24 - Madness

The others turned their heads looking towards the hill where the howl originated. Victor was shaking in fear. They turned to run. Don't bother, he said with his flat voice, it already too late.

They turned around and there it was, fur as black as night, each hair thin and sharp like needles. Three full rows of razer sharp teeth filled it giant maw.

It snout almost as long as a crocodiles and it eyes so red one could swear it was bleeding. It was large, much larger than the others standing at over 3 metres tall.

Claws adorned it giant paws like obsidian daggers and it had a second pair of eyes on the sides of it head just below the original two.

Noel felt his heart pounding the moment he saw it, he didn't know if this was fear but one thing for certain it would be almost impossible for them to beat this thing even with him joining the fight and going all out.

He heard chattering teeth, Victors legs were trembling, his grip on his sword was loose and even Iron looked tense holding his shield facing the foe before them.

Cathra, ready your spell. Su....sure give me 10 seconds, she said stuttering. He could feel the fear in her voice. He stood next to iron and touched his shield.

A thin blue barrier appeared around the shield. We...we should run, said Victor stuttering. Run where? Do you think you can outrun that thing?

SO WHAT DO YOU WANT US TO DO? FIGHT IT? Do whatever you want. He activated his heavenly eyes but what he expected did not happen.

The heavenly eyes only showed him the creatures species, rank and grade but not it stats or skills, which meant it was either that much stronger than him or could interfere with his heavenly eyes which to be honest would be worse.

If it has an ability that can interfere with a mythical grade ability that would spell trouble for them so as strange as it sounded he really wished it was simply due to the differences in strength. It was much better to deal with that than a higher rank foe with a high grade skill.

His golden pupil gazed upon the creatures hideous face. E rank sky grade, he said. What? It an E rank sky grade. We will die won't we? I don't want to die, cried Victor with tears on his eyes. Noel sighed.

Then the creature moved, it was only a single step, there was no technique to it just pure movement yet it disappeared infront of their eyes.

Even with his heavenly eyes active he could only see a shadow of the wolf. It covered over 100 metres in less than a second. There was a collision that sent a shockwave blasting outwards.

The next instant Iron was lying on a crater over 50 metres away. This thing was able to send iron who weighed over 3 tons with his armour flying like he was sack of potatoes.

Cathra looked terrified. IRON, she shouted. Don't worry he is fine, Noel said without even looking at where Iron is. The two of them, Victor and Cathra looked closely and he was right.

The barrier he had casted over Irons shield was cracked but not broken. He sighed and took a step forward, his coat floating behind him like a cloak of darkness.

The beasts gaze landed on him, it red eyes filled with madness and hunger. He looked back at it without any fear yet his heart was pounding like a drum.

It moved, he still could not follow it with his eyes but seeing a shadow was all he needed, as long as he knew where it was he could deal with it.

He casted a thick barrier infront of him. The black shining claws of the wolf scratched it , it cracked but it held, with blinding movements it went to his side and swiped it claws at him, he could not cast another barrier like first one.

So he casted a shield barrier and held it with his left arm, the shield barrier was much stronger than the normal stationery barriers, took less time and mana to cast but it was more dangerous to use as some of the force was still transferred into him just like when holding a shield.

He was sent flying but unlike the time he fought the leopard his arm did not break. Spinning mid air he landed on his feet and before he could adjust himself it was already upon him.

Cold golden eyes met red eyes filled with madness. It tried to bite him but he ducked down barely dodging it, he swung his sword from below.

A sound like metal collided was heard when the sword hit the wolfs stomach. He rolled under it but then it kicked with it back foot hitting him on the chest.

He was sent flying 30 metres away until he hit a tree and came to a stop. Before he could get up a huge maw with three rows of saw like teeth was over his head.

He casted a rectangular barrier infront of his face stopping the giant maw from closing then he rolled to the side and the barrier broke.

He was coughing blood and his heart was pounding. He was wondering why that was, why was his heart pounding so much, was it fear? Was he scared?

He touched his face and felt a smile there. No, this was not fear, this was excitement, staring in the face of death made his heart pound.

For the first time in his life he felt joy, different from the joy of being with his family, that was contentment, the joy of peace but this, this was different, he felt it in his very bones.

He was alive, he felt alive for the first time ever. He felt truly alive not because of somebody else but because he found something he loves, something he enjoys, this was not something he could do in his old world with all the rules.

The thrill of battle, the idea that he might die any moment made his very blood boil, not with anger nor fear but excitement. Hahahahaha, he laughed out loud.

Blood was dripping from the conor of his mouth. His golden eyes locked with the hungry gaze of his mindless foe. He stood up and opened his arms, his dead eyes lighting up with life in what felt like forever.

He would no longer run, why would he. COME BEAST, he shouted. CLARK IT READY, RETREAT,he heard Cathra shout behind him.He ignored her, he would not let anything or anyone take this away from him.

The beast moved, it towered over him but that just meant a bigger target to hit. It swiped it claws at him. He did not cast a barrier, he wanted,no he needed to feel the pain.

He blocked with only his arm, it shattered, his bones turning into fragments, his skin ripped to shreds and every muscle in it torn apart yet he laughed. Why didn't that leopard give me this feeling? He wondered. Maybe I was never truly in danger there.

He ran towards the wolf and it jumped at him, he slid below and tried to cut up it stomach but his sword just slid on it metallic fur, causing sparks to fly.

He turned around excitement flooding his body, his breath was hurried, he could hear the annoying voice behind him. He couldn't hear what it was saying and he did not care, he just wanted to rip the thing before him apart, he imagined himself pulling it entrails while it still breath, a moan escaped his lips, that would be a magnificent sight wouldn't it?

He did not even notice his eyes were changing, his pupils were still gold due the heavenly eyes but his sclera was turning slightly grey while his iris had a tinge of crimson.

They were no longer dead fish eyes that looked at everything with cold indifference but they were filled with excitement and madness. The wolf and him looked each other dead in the eyes and creature took a step back. He grinned
