Chapter 23 - last wolf

Blood and limbs were flying everywhere, they have been fighting for over 30 minutes and still saw no end to the pack. The battle was made even harder by the fact that Cathra could not help them.

She was casting a spell, he did not know what kind of spell it was but the fact that she had been casting it for a whole 30 minutes means it must be a powerful one.

He on the other hand had been healing both Victor and Iron the entire time almost without rest and some of the wounds were really gruesome, taking way more mana to heal.

As a result he had been drinking mana potions like they are a candy juice. Iron and Victor could obviously not hold all of them back so a few were able to slip past them and it was up to him to deal with them.

He did not want to but there was no other choise here. As a result he was forced to rely on his rudimentary swordsmanship and barriers.

He made sure not to reveal the full extent of his barrier magic ofcourse so after a few hit they would always break. He just did enough to hold the wolves back while not appearing to be strong.

Ofcourse he did cast stronger barriers secretly, they were smaller and hard to notice in the mayhem. Their job was not to block attacks at all but to trip and disrupt the movements of the wolves.

It was one of the reasons why both Victor and Iron are still alive. Infact one of the F rank died because of that, it tripped on one of his barriers giving Iron a chance to split it head apart.

However after it death two more rank F wolves appeared, they looked just as fearsome and savage as the first three. He looked at his party members.

Dread filled their eyes or atleast Victors eyes. To be honest Noel had expected Victor to run and bail on them in this situation so it was a surprise to see him fighting like this even though he was obviously scared.

Cathra had urgency in her eyes, her casting speed had increased and he could actually feel the amount of mana gathering in the sky. The clouds grew darker and slowly lightning was gathering above them.

Irons suit of armour had turned red, his shield dented but it still held. He swung his axe around like he was dancing, if one saw him they would not believe how heavy that thing was.

His shield was glowing gold and so was his axe. Noel could tell it was sharper now, he must be using a skill which means he is draining his mana and stamina faster.

The two of them could not retreat to grab the potions so it was up to him to bring them to them. If he was a normal healer he would've died by now jumping into the wolves like that but he was not a normal healer.

The situation did not look good but he was strangely calm, even as his mana ran low and his breath became hurried due to losing stamina he did not feel fear only cold indifference.

It was as if someone else was watching a fight that had nothing to do with him but it did, strong as he believed himself to be he knew he could die any moment here, a single mistake was all it took.

Even if they could handle their current enemies there is no discounting variables. Considering his limiter of death follows you he was almost certain something will happen.

I'm done,he heard a voice say behind him. Turning around he saw Cathra breathing heavily, mana so thick around her it was almost visible and tangible.

Her voice was low, fatigue clear as the night sky in her eyes. Tell the others to retreat, I'm going to fry those vermin all the way to hell, she said with a low voice filled with anger and resentment.

No. What? No, you should hold that spell, I have a bad feeling about this. Do you have any idea how hard holding this things is? No I do not. And you want me to hold it because you have a feeling?

Yes, I know my request seems unreasonable but trust me on this one. She sighed, I hope you right cause if you not I'm going to beat you up myself.

That won't be as easy as you think. He and Cathra watched as Victor and Iron danced between the pack, everywhere they passed blood and limbs flew, wails and growles followed.

Sharp saw like teeth, long claws like daggers and sharp needle like fur scratched and drilled into their bodies but he healed them almost immediately.

However he realised they could not maintain this, they were running out of energy and potions but there were still rank F wolves remaining.

Can you cast other spells? No I cannot, not as long as I'm still holding this one. Mmm, those two won't be able to hold on for long, fortunately there are not as many wolves remaining.

I'm going to help them. What? No, you need to stay back, if something happens to you they really will not be able to last. Don't worry, I can take care of myself.

He said as he ran towards the remaining wolves. His swordsmanship was nothing to talk about but it was enough to deal with mindless vermin that only knew how to charge.

Within a few minutes they had killed all the remaining G rank wolves and only two F rank remained. They were bleeding and were becoming slower.

Although beasts had higher stats than humans in general they tended to be weaker than humans due to the lack of skill unless they are a higher grade beast.

So even though they were outnumbered, they were still able to take down hundreds of wolves and lived to tell the tale. The two remaining wolves jumped at them without fear, brandishing their claws and fangs.

Iron rushed forward raising his shield, he bashed one wolf backwards and kicked the other sending both of them flying. Victor followed after swinging his sword from above and beheading one of the wolves.

Before the other could get up Noel was already there, his pitch black eyes staring at it with cold indifference, he could swear he saw a flicker of fear in it eyes.

When he plunged his sword into it heart, it howled. The howl was loud and echoed through the trees, slowly it eyes closed, small whimpers escaping it hideous maw, this did not move him and he continued to plunge his sword into it heart until it breathed it last.

Ha ha ha HAHA HAHAHAHA, he turned around and Victor was laughing loudly, tears streaming down from his eyes. His blood covered face beaming with joy, we won, he said we WOOON.

See there was nothing to worry about, said Cathra smiling. She was about to release her spell when a deafening howl echoed in forest. The trees shook and the air felt stale. I think it best we run, he said softly without any sign of panick.
