Cathra POV
Ever since she had heard about this guy she had been getting surprise after surprise. He came back to the guild carrying the carcass of a stalker leopard.
Ofcourse that was brushed off as luck, everybody believed he found it already dead, a G rank healer killing an E rank beast made absolutely no sense.
After hearing about that, she proposed to her party members that they recruit him, he was the only known healer without a party or working for the church or some other organisation.
At first she expected him to be no different from most other healers, arrogant and for a time she did think he was like that but the last past days taught her otherwise.
He did disregard everyone but not because of arrogance, it was simply because he did not care about anyone at all, she was certain their deaths would be nothing more than an inconvenience to him, he would feel nothing at all even though they are in the same party.
Unapproachable as he was she had to admit he was an extremely good healer, an unreasonable good one infact but it seemed he was not even aware of the things he does.
The rate at which he heals wounds during battle is insane but the most surprising thing was his ability to heal mental strength and he just treated it like it was normal, he had absolutely no grip on reality.
She had never once heard of a healer able to regenerate mental strength no matter how strong they were. She couldn't deny the possibility of one existing but they would most definitely be working for major powers and here he was being an adventure.
This was what prompted her to ask him why he is even an adventure when he had so many options, the answer both disappointed and reassured her.
She had expected something dramatic like wanting revenge for the death of his family or something but he simply wanted to find someone.
That did however mean he was atleast human, that was the first time she had actually felt any emotions from him, true emotions not the exasperated sigh he copies from her when dealing with Victor.
She felt longing, it a was simple thing, a single emotion but it was enough to assure her she wasn't working with an undead, his cold eyes and pale skin made her uneasy.
She thought that was where the surprises would end but here she was again, watching him battle a monster two ranks higher than him with a joyous laugh. He was losing badly, his arms kept getting mangled and healed over and over.
Claws ripped into his skin and sometimes she could even see his insides, it looked gruesome and painful, she was certain she would've fainted from the pain by now but he was laughing like a madman or a child receiving a new toy.
Not a fake laugh, not one of anger like some people who laughed when they are angry but a genuine happy laugh. Not even a small giggle he was laughing at the top of his lungs.
He looked happy, his previously cold eyes were filled with nothing but childish joy. To him, this was a game, he was simply having fun in the face of death.
She knew these type of people, she had met one of them before, that crazy woman. They were the type that find joy and solace in battle, war is where they thrived and she knew how they got when you take that away from them.
So as much as she did not want to she had to stop him. She watched him trade blows with the creature, to be more specific he was being thrown around although he did land a few hits.
His hands were now covered by small spherical black balls. She could sense barrier magic in them, these were barriers, how ingenious.
Since he could not hurt it with anything else he decided to use barriers as knuckles, his battle sense is impressive. CLARK, YOU NEED TO RETREAT NOW. She really hoped he would listen.
She could not hold this spell for much longer, if they don't use it now it will disappear, the mana will scatter into the atmosphere and their chances of survival would plummet. Clark please get out of there, she whispered to herself.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Noel was having fun, more fun than he had ever had in years. His barrier gloves were working, they were not as effective as he would like them to be but they are working.
They were black for some reason and this thing was getting slower somehow, he could barely see it shadow before but now he could actually see it.
It was still fast, extremely so but nolonger overwhelming. While his attacks did not do anything to it before now his punches could atleast bend it needle like furs.
It nothing to talk about but it was a huge difference, it was sign that it was not invulnerable. His laugh echoed in the trees as he bled and healed himself over and over again.
The longer the battle lasted the harder his heart beats. The shades in his eyes were growing deeper, he could feel his mind slipping from his grasps.
His thoughts were muddled, the only thing in his mind was desire, desire for blood, desire for death. Joy filled his heart as killing intent locked into his opponent.
The intent was not filled with rage nor malice. He did not hate it, infact he loved the creature, he loved it sharp claw, it hungry and mad eyes and it saw like teeth.
He loved everything about this hideous monstrosity. It was his playmate, his toy. He laughed aloud just thinking about how he was going rip it apart, the pleasure that very thought brought was addictive. He just wanted it life because that sounded fun.
His breath was heavy, steaming breath escaped his mouth as he giggled with pleasure. "Notice, seal weakening, countermeasures recommended, host should regulate their emotional state" annoying, he said his voice guttural.
The barrier knuckles turned a shade darker. His greyish sclera was becoming darker and the red in his iris was spreading. He ofcourse did not notice any of this but Cathra did.
She shouted at him once more and he turned around and looked at her,his eyes becoming cold once more. Would you shut up, we busy, he said in a cold flat voice.
Cathra took a step back, her body shaking. The barrier knuckles grew sharp spikes and he jumped at his opponent with a huge grin, the cold eyes that faced Cathra now gone, replaced by eyes filled with childish joy.
