Chapter 18 - Hard battle

A blue aura covered Victor and a brownish one covered Iron, they were Cathras spells. Victor moved, he was aiming for the leader. He had a big grin on his face.

He rushed towards the most guarded and crowded place in the pack without caution. This fool grumbled Cathra. Iron was standing infront of them with his giant shield infront of him.

Although Cathra had casted a barrier Noel could tell it was flimsy, it did not even have a fraction of the durability of his barriers, she could only make up for it by being higher in rank than he was.

Her fireballs flew, they exploded amongst the pack wounding a few of them. They whimpered and moaned in pain but still continued charging.

The coachman seemed relaxed, he wondered why a mortal human would be so relaxed in a situation like this but it was not his place to question the man.

Victor jumped 10 metres high and landed between the hyenas, he swung his sword around, he had more skill than Noel in that part but it appeared he was also lacking.

He was able to hit a few but under the rank F leadership they were organised. This is another reason higher ranked and grade beasts were so dangerous.

Unlike monsters who were mindless dregs beasts became smarter the stronger they get. The grade of the beast which is determined by their bloodline also effect their intelligence.

He watched as they jumped towards Victor who was running in their midst waving his sword around. He could land a few hit but under these conditions he obviously could not put all his power in those swings.

Although they landed they lacked power, only wounding the beasts rather than killing them, infact the only reason they were even wounded by his weak swings was because he was of higher rank than them.

Within a few minutes, bites and scratches had landed on him, HEALER, DO YOUR GODDAM JOB he shouted. Noels casted healing hand on him from afar.

It was less effective from this distance but enough to heal the wounds of this whining man. Should I not be saving my mana for more serious wounds? He asked Cathra.

You should but I doubt he would listen, let me tell him though. Victor was back to what he was doing and again wounds littered his body.

He shouted to be healed once more but Cathra replied this time. VICTOR BEAR WITH IT, CLARK SHOULD SAVE HIS MANA FOR MORE SERIOUS WOUNDS.

FUCK THAT, HEAL ME RIGHT NOW YOU USELESS DREG. Cathra sighed, I told you he wouldn't listen. Noel did just that, he healed him again and again and again.

They had been fighting for over an hour but had yet to come close to the leader. Iron was still holding strong with his shield and armour. They both had scratches and bite marks but he was fine.

He had not once asked to be healed during the entire fight. The hyenas threw themselves at him and he would split them apart with a swing of his axe or atleast that what was supposed to happen.

Have you noticed? Asked Cathra. He nodded. These things are much stronger than they should be, I think the leader in empowering them somehow, she said.

He nodded, they heard Victor screaming die die die while swinging his sword, he was covered in blood, both his own and that of his enemies but he was backing out.

After he realised the fight was not so easy he decided to back up. The issue with that was that he jumped right into the middle from the start so now he was surrounded from all sides.

Noel could see the panic in his eyes, CATHRA, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING? CAST SOME SPELLS AND HELP ME. Cathra frowned, she had been doing that, had it been not for her holding some back with her spells he might've been drowned by then by now.

However she couldn't just help him and him alone, she had to defend the three of them while making sure Iron was not overran by the beasts.

Ofcourse Iron was holding almost 10 of them back by himself. Victor was struggling with the seven he had been dealing with. Noel suspected he was not even aware he had been fighting the same seven hyenas and his suspicions were confirmed.

I'M DOING WORK FOR EVERYONE HERE THE LEAST YOU CAN DO IS HELP AND YOU GODDAM USELESS HEALER, WHY AREN'T YOU FIGHTING?.

It seemed he had forgotten he was the one who told me to stand back, Noel thought but he had no intentions to fight unless completely necessary.

Cathra was sweating now, she had drank 2 mana potions in this fight, she had been holding back tens of these hyenas by herself. Fireballs, icicles, lightning bolt and other elementary spells had been flying around.

Her mind could barely hold on by now. Noel healed her and he saw surprise in her eyes. Why is she surprised? I'm doing my job, does she think I lied about being a healer?

She had seen me heal others though, he decided to stop thinking about that. He had used almost 300 points of mana in this fight. He was thinking about holding back a little.

Just as he was thinking that he heard Victor shouting to be healed again, he was about to do that when he suddenly had a bad feeling, something is wrong here, he thought.

He looked around but saw nothing, there was no new enemy. He was about to relax when that feeling came back. Maybe it not a new enemy but one we've been fighting without realising it.

As he looked around he noticed a small detail he had missed, they had all missed. The eyes of these beasts were vacant, their chest were not heaving.

Which means these things were not alive, he looked around once more, no,some of them were, the least wounded ones were alive. He continued watching them.

They flocked Victor attacking him, he had thought the reason Victor was not too wounded because the hyenas were weak but that was not true.

The attacks of the vacant eyed ones landed but left no wounds, these things were not real but mere illusions. The only wounds Victor had were from a few real ones that attacked alongside the fake ones, that why he was not ripped to shreds with his stupidity, pitty.

You are quite strong and intelligent for a beast I will give you that, but you still have a lot to learn don't you? The others turned and looked at him like he was crazy but then something that shook them happened.
