The night had fallen quiet over Camp Ravenpine. Crickets chirped softly and the wind rustled the leaves like a lullaby. Everyone in Cabin 7 had drifted off into sleep, but two hearts thudded with anticipation. One reminiscing the state she got from the guy who has made her feel strange lately and the other heart pondering on either to go with the plan suggested by the furry animal in his head.
Damian stood outside, hoodie pulled over his head, pacing beneath the window closest to Alison's bed.
"Just do it you brat! Tap on the window, she will wake up" Lexus scolded in Damian's head
"I don't even know why I am listening to you " Damian complained
"Because I am the genius here and the love guru, now tap on the window " Lexus continued pressuring
"If things go bad just know it's all your fault " Damian declared in his head his voice stern and he could feel Lexus rolling his eyes
Tap. Tap.
Alison stirred, her brows furrowed. Another tap.
She sat up slowly, peeking through the curtain. There he was.
"Damon" she muttered in a low voice
He motioned with his hand for her to come out. Alison's heart picked up speed. She had no reason to follow him. No excuse. But there was a pull, something warm and magnetic in her chest. Forcing her to go out
She tiptoed across the cabin, pulled on her sneakers, and slipped outside
"Damon, what is it? You can't sleep?" she whispered, glancing over her shoulder. "You scared me half to death."
"Why? Were you having a nightmare or something " Damian asked
"No you were just very creepy. What are you doing outside again this time? Are you sneaking out again" Alison said as she took glances around the area
"Yes I am sneaking out, again. But this time you are going with me." He looked away, a rare hint of nervousness on his face.
"Now?"
He gave a small smirk. "Unless you'd rather go back and count ceiling lines."
Alison rolled her eyes. "Fine. But if I die in the woods, I'm haunting you." She just couldn't not reject him and she also wanted to see the magical stream again and in the end she agreed.
"I'd expect nothing less. And with you being very talkative, your ghost will be very annoying. So don't worry I won't let you die" Damian teased
"I don't talk a lot" Alison denied the allegations with a pout
Damian said in his head "Cute"
Lexus suddenly replied, "Yes she is, very cute and pretty "
"Go away Lexus, if you want this to work just go awah" Damian pleaded with the annoying wolf that just suddenly spoke to him and Lexus left with a groan.
He led her quietly down the path to the stream. It shimmered in moonlight, stars mirrored perfectly on the surface. It looked as if the sky had fallen on the ground and with all the stars still on it.
Alison gasped. "It's just as beautiful as before… maybe more."
They sat on the soft grass feeling the peace the air held,
Damian spoke pointing to the sky. "See that star, the bright one? Just above the horizon?"
She nodded.
"There's a story from where I come from. About that star. They say a long time ago, it used to be two stars. A sun and a moon. They fell in love, impossible love but they were separated by day and night. So they wished to the Moon Queen to let them be together. She turned them into one star, forever beside each other in the sky."
Alison blinked, caught off guard. "That's… actually really beautiful."
He looked at her then. "I don't usually tell people that story."
"Because it's soft?" she teased.
He chuckled. "Because it's personal."
"I see" Alison replied and kept on watching the stars above
They stayed there, talking about stars, stories, and everything in between.
"I love the moon, it shines bright even though it's on a dark sky" Alison commented
"Just like your silver eyes " Damian praised her
Eventually, Alison yawned, laying back on the grass.
Damian watched her as her eyes fluttered closed.
"She's mine," he thought. "And I'll protect her. Always."
Seeing how sound asleep she was, he picked her up gently, carrying her back to the cabin. Slipping inside the girl's room, he discreetly laid her softly in bed, covering her up like she was made of glass. He found his hand touching her cheek and immediately returned it back.
As he left the cabin, he found Kevin sitting outside with crossed arms and a smirk.
"Midnight dates?" Kevin whispered.
"She fell asleep."
"You carried her back? Who are you, Romeo?"
"Shut up." But Damian couldn't hide the small smile that tugged at his lips.
"I never thought I could see you get mushy" Kevin teased him, he was the only best friend of Damian
"If you're planning to chatter like a grandma all night, take it outside, Kevin." Damian complained and finished with a groan
The next morning at the camp RAVENPINE,
Alison woke up, stretched herself on the bed and blinked when she realised she was on her bed. Her memories reminds her that she had fell asleep on the grass and she didn't wake up, so how did she reach here. The weight of questions pressing her chest.
«Did he carry me? Did he see me drooling? Why does he make me feel like I'm floating and drowning at the same time?»
Alison was embarrassed, shocked, surprised and confused. What will she do? She will avoid him now,
Alison got ready and went out with her friends, Damian was busy arranging breakfast on the table. During breakfast, she avoided his gaze. She sat far from him. Kevin noticed.
"Did you make this Damon" Sara questioned
"Yes but Kai helped me " Damian said
"Alison, do you like it? " Kevin asked her
"Yes good" Alison tried to be short and clear, she didn't want any interaction with him. She was embarrassed, he carried her, she has never been carried by anyone except her adoptive father, Mr Fisher. And now him, a handsome guy carried her and tucked her in, how embarrassing. She just wanted a hole to form so she could hide.
In the afternoon at camp RAVENPINE,…
The camp was hosting a scavenger hunt that day, and groups were being assigned.
Alison did her best to not be anyhow teamed up with Damian. Damian and sensed her avoiding him,
"What did you do you brat?!" Lexus asked immediately in Damian's head after knowing Alison's avoiding them
"Hey I did nothing, even I'm in questions" Damian defended himself
"Then why is she avoiding you " Lexus questioned
"You are the love guru" Damian mocked
"Hahaha not funny," Lexus said and cut the communication
"I want to be with Alison," Kevin said quickly, throwing a cheeky glance at Damian.
"Thank you my luck " Alison thanked her luck stars
"Fine by me," Damian replied. But when the game started, Kevin mysteriously switched spots.
Alison found herself with none other than the broody prince himself. The guy who made her feel embarrassed and unsure if herself
"I'm going to kill Kevin," she muttered, while Damian smiled already imagining Alison chasing Kevin with a broom.
They walked in tense silence for a while. Alison already found two treasures, Damian decided to break the ice
"You are good at this game, already 5 treasures " Damian praised her, but she was too embarrassed to speak
She walked, her head only screaming of "I feel so embarrassed ". She walked not looking where she is going as she tripped and nearly fall down, Damian's quick reflexes caught her before she could get hurt.
"Hey are you okay? Don't you know you should look where you are going" Damian reprimanded her
Alison stood frozen, she liked Damian's quick action which saved her from getting wounds or even a fracture. And now he was looking at her with worry. Alison couldn't understand herself, why was she so embarrassed? Why did her throat close up when he looked at her like that?
Damian found himself reaching for her cheeks and caressed them and took a strand of her hair backward.
She couldn't shake it, the warmth in her chest when he touched her, the way his voice could make her stomach flutter and her knees weak. This wasn't just attraction. It was… something else. Something scary.
"Oh no" Alison thought
What they didn't know… was that someone from a rival team saw everything, but decided to add even false words.
By lunch, whispers filled the camp.
"Did you see them"
"Alison and Damian?"
"In the woods. Total PDA."
"I heard they kissed "
The false rumours kept on spreading and Alison could not take it and went to hide behind the cabin. Her friends defended her,
Kira stood up. "Excuse me, Alison is not that kind of girl."
"Yes so stop these lies, ugh you have nothing to do but spread rumours. Goblins" Sara reprimanded
Eventually, even the counselors were murmuring. Damian stood and spoke loud enough for everyone to hear.
"Nothing happened. But if I hear one more false rumor, you'll regret it."
