Chapter 48 - was I ever real to him?

EXT. ABANDONED STONE BENCH – NEAR GOA CLIFF – NIGHT

The moonlight glows over the sea.

Waves crash violently against the rocks — as if echoing her pain.

Mahi sits alone, her back hunched forward, arms around her knees.

She's crying, but silently.

Then—

Footsteps.

Deliberate. Slow. Heels clicking.

Mishri emerges from the shadows, dressed in black — calm, graceful, and dangerous.

MISHRI (softly):

"Mahi."

Mahi flinches but doesn't turn around.

MAHI (coldly):

"I don't want to hear anything.

Especially not from you."

Mishri walks closer, voice deceptively gentle.

MISHRI:

"Then just listen once.

And if I'm wrong… walk away forever."

Silence.

Mahi's grip tightens on her scarf.

MISHRI (quietly):

"You left Ahaan four months ago, right?"

MAHI (bitterly):

"Because of what I saw.

You kissing him."

MISHRI (nodding):

"And I don't regret it.

Because I had to show you the truth."

Now Mahi turns slowly.

Her eyes red. Raw. Betrayed.

MAHI:

"What truth?"

Mishri steps close.

Leans in like she's whispering a secret that weighs the world.

MISHRI (calmly):

"He was never yours, Mahi.

He was sent to kill you."

Mahi goes still.

Her pupils shrink. Her lips part slightly.

MAHI (shaken):

"What…?"

MISHRI (soft smile):

"Operation 54?

That wasn't about any terrorist.

You were the target."

Mahi's heart pounds in her ears.

MISHRI (steely):

"You were part of a government blacklist.

Your father, your files, your research.

They believed you were a threat.

Ahaan was the agency's weapon.

He came close to you… to eliminate you."

Mahi stands now — trembling.

MAHI:

"No. He loved me.

He chose me—"

MISHRI (cold):

"He failed his mission. That's the only reason you're alive."

MAHI:

"No—he saved me!

He saved me from Zayaan!"

MISHRI (smirks):

"And he killed Zayaan before the agency could question him.

He went rogue for you.

They almost killed him too."

MAHI (tears falling):

"You're lying…"

MISHRI (voice suddenly sharp):

"Then ask him.

Ask him what his real name is."

Mahi stumbles back.

Her hands shake.

Memories flash —

The moments when he dodged her questions, changed subjects, refused to talk about his past.

MAHI (softly):

"…Who is he?"

MISHRI (smiling):

"Exactly."

INT. ORPHANAGE DORM ROOM – LATER THAT NIGHT

Mahi sits alone in the dark.

No tears now.

Just silence.

Heavy. Dead.

She holds an old photo of her and Ahaan. Her thumb slowly moves over his face.

Then…

She rips it in half.

---

INT. GARDEN – SAME NIGHT

Ahaan runs in, breathless.

But the bench is empty.

Only silence and a faint trace of her perfume in the air.

He missed her. Again.
