Chapter 29 - I wish I could forget him

INT. MAHI'S APARTMENT – NIGHT

The city is asleep.

But inside her dark room, Mahi sits curled up on the floor, beside her untouched bed. Her white bedsheet is crumpled. Her phone lies somewhere under the pillow, ringing once… twice… then falling silent.

The only light in the room comes from the dim glow of the streetlamp outside.

Her face is hollow. Her eyes — swollen from silent crying.

Her knees are pressed to her chest, hands shaking slightly.

A flash of memory hits her:

> Ahaan holding her hand.

Mishri's lips on his.

His name whispered in a hospital corridor… followed by lies.

She suddenly stands up.

Breathing hard.

Panicked.

Crushed under the weight of everything she's tried to hold in.

She grabs her keys. No shoes. Just slippers. No jacket.

Just her pain.

She runs.

EXT. MAHI'S BUILDING – NIGHT

Saif, leaning against his bike parked across the street, sees her storm out. Her hair is unbrushed, her steps uneven. She doesn't even see him.

But he sees everything.

SAIF (to himself, frowning):

"Mahi?"

He watches for a second — then realizes.

Something's wrong. Very wrong.

She crosses the road recklessly, cars honking, not even reacting.

Saif jumps onto his bike and follows.

EXT. CITY STREETS – NIGHT

Mahi walks fast through the empty streets. Her breath short, her vision blurry. Her mind flashing with images she can't shut off.

She reaches a bridge — the city lights reflecting on the water below.

She stops. Grabs the railing.

Breathes heavily.

Not thinking. Just feeling everything too much.

Behind her — Saif parks the bike and rushes forward.

SAIF (soft but urgent):

"Mahi!"

She doesn't turn.

He walks slowly toward her, watching her shoulders shake.

SAIF (carefully):

"I saw everything that night.

I saw what he did."

Mahi turns slightly. Her eyes red.

MAHI (voice cracked):

"Was it all a joke, Saif?

Was I just… entertainment for him?

A mission? A mistake?"

She laughs bitterly, wiping tears roughly from her cheeks.

MAHI:

"I wish I could forget him.

I wish I hated him enough to move on."

Saif steps closer. Slowly. Carefully.

SAIF (softly):

"Then hate him.

But don't punish yourself for loving him."

A pause.

SAIF (voice low, full of restrained emotion):

"You don't deserve to carry his guilt.

You don't deserve to fall apart alone."

Mahi looks up at him — the only person who's never lied to her.

The only person who's always been there.

For a moment… she wants to collapse into his arms.

But she doesn't.

She just stands there — shattered.

And he stands beside her — broken in his own way — but holding her up with his silence.
