Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: A New Power

'Can't even commit suicide?'

That sudden remark stunned Obito. He instinctively reached for a shuriken, but another thought in his mind was constantly stopping him.

'When had it started? When did this restriction begin?'

Yun looked at him and asked,

"So, this piece of intel, would it be worth one of your chips?"

'Intel...'

That familiar word snapped Obito back to awareness. Staring at the black silhouette in front of him, he suddenly remembered a certain disgusting figure.

"Uzumaki Ku?"

'Ugh.'

That abrupt accusation made Yun feel a little awkward. 'Things had been going smoothly, how did it suddenly come to this?'

Obito didn't wait for a reply. He smiled coldly and continued:

"So, you trade intel for chips to gain someone else's talent or abilities. That's how it works, huh?

You traded my information to get the Fourth Hokage's Flying Thunder God technique, didn't you?"

"And Flying Thunder God alone isn't a fair trade! Don't forget, two years ago, if I had succeeded, Kushina would've died and the Nine-Tails would've destroyed half of Konoha."

"Given those stakes, there's no way Minato Namikaze would've agreed to an equal exchange. So how many chips did you get from him? And how much power have you gained?"

As leaves blew through the wind and gathered again, the shadowed Yun remained calm and responded:

"Because this is a transaction of intelligence, you believe I'm Uzumaki Ku?"

Obito scoffed:

"Not just that, you also have my severed arm. From the way things were two years ago, you must've taken a huge risk to get it."

"After all, with Uchiha Shisui, Uchiha Fugaku, and even Kakashi, who could use Mangekyō powers at the time, on the scene,

Even with Flying Thunder God, stealing that arm must have been a gamble."

"Hashirama cells aren't exactly friendly either."

The scene went quiet.

After a long pause, Yun finally shook his head:

"You're asking too many questions. If you don't give up a chip, I'm not obligated to answer a single one."

"So, Obito... standing here on the second level, do you really want to know what I told you before?"

High above, the clouds gathered into the word "Truth."

Obito glanced up at it and sneered:

"Now that I know you're Uzumaki Ku, do you really think I'd still hand you a chip?"

Then he activated his Mangekyō:

"You're probably after these eyes, right?"

Yun nodded.

"At the moment, they're the only thing about you that interests me."

A light breeze sent a few leaves drifting onto Rin's memorial stone. Yun crouched and gently brushed them off.

Then he muttered:

"Will you seek revenge for the real Nohara Rin now that you know the truth, or will you ignore it?"

"You let lies and illusions fill the emptiness inside you, but you refuse to face the real hatred behind her death."

"Burying your head in the dirt won't make it go away. Or… have you already forgotten what that girl once did for you? The only one who ever believed a 'dead-last' like Uchiha Obito could become Hokage."

His words made Obito's expression darken.

He unconsciously tightened his grip over his left eye.

'The truth about Rin, the truth about his body, and the power of that eye... Its cooldown period was too long.'

The ability to pierce into the future, after using it once via Fugaku's eye, even with his Hashirama-enhanced body, meant he couldn't use it again for at least ten years.

Two pieces of intel… He'd been played.

But the truth about his own body was it Madara?

Who else besides Kirigakure had a hand in Rin's death?

Obito's fists clenched tightly. He looked up at the shadowy Yun and said:

"One chip. Tell me how to undo the modifications Madara made to my body."

That response surprised Yun slightly.

"You already figured it out? Well, it wasn't hard, I suppose. You lived with Puppet Master Madara long enough to suspect something."

"So you're planning to uncover Rin's death yourself? Looks like Fugaku's eyes gave you something… unpredictable."

Obito narrowed his eyes.

"You figured that out too? Well, thanks to you selling my intel, I ended up obtaining those eyes through a twist of fate."

'So it really was the butterfly effect…'

Yun had never been sure if Fugaku's eyes were truly Mangekyō, anime and manga didn't exactly line up.

'Did Minato know and keep it secret?'

Yun sighed. A lot of things became clear at that moment.

Fugaku, burdened with Mangekyō, had always been torn between choices. His future-seeing ability had to be activated manually, and both eyes had different powers.

One of them must've been the same one Obito used during the battle in Amegakure, It had a five-minute cooldown, And could see one or two seconds into the future.

But the other…

'Expanding a dot into a full picture,' huh?'

From a single clue, it could reveal a future event.

That power must've come with massive drawbacks. Even with a right arm made from Hashirama cells, Obito was still willing to trade a chip for it.

Which meant the cooldown or cost of using that power must've been enormous.

"Hah…"

Yun exhaled.

Fugaku, even in death, had left something behind for this crazy bastard Obito.

So that's why…

Active skills were just never as good as passives. If you could see the future, why would you let yourself be ambushed and killed?

"Let's make the contract."

As Yun finished speaking, a scroll appeared before Obito.

Obito examined it carefully, then looked up at Yun:

"If it weren't for the powers you showed in that last battle, I wouldn't believe a space like this could even exist."

"An ability that trades intel for power… But the original owner doesn't lose their ability, it's just replicated."

"That's the power of rules."

Yun glanced at him.

"You want to ask if it can revive the dead, don't you?"

Obito shook his head slightly:

"I know about the Rinne Rebirth Technique. But Rin… she wouldn't want it. She was too kind for this world. And me… I'm already living in hell."

As the mood grew somber and Obito signed the contract.

Yun couldn't help but comment:

"I mean, I do feel kind of sorry for you. But there's a saying that fits you perfectly right now."

Obito's gaze sharpened:

"I don't need anyone's judgment. Even if I had succeeded two years ago, It would've been this world's own fault…"
