He turned and saw a tentacle firmly latched into his leg, however this was one was different, it was much thinner than the others and much darker.
While the other tentacles looked like jelly this was one appeared more metallic, he tried to yank his leg but it was too strong. Realising things were bad he plunged his hand out of the creatures body.
With a thought the blood essence river surged, the tentacle yanked him back in but before it could a huge red sword of blood essence materialized in his hand.
It was 5 metres long and as thick as a grown man. He swung the giant sword ripping the tentacles to shreds including the metallic one.
Keeping the sword materialized was hard, he felt as if his mind was splitting apart. He needed to end this fast, he jumped forward towards the core swinging his sword like a mad man.
The giant tentacles moved, each were cut by a single swing of his blade but they were able to keep him at bay, the splitting headache grew worse.
He felt his sword become weaker, blood essence was leaking off it and the sword was shrinking. He grew desperate, he couldn't waste time.
He stopped swinging it around like a fool and swam forward, he would only attack the tentacles he was certain would get him while going through the tiny spaces between others.
He was like a fish trapped in an ever changing net, he needed to calculate the speed of the tentacles and determine if he could get passed them in time or not.
This level of mental workout put even more strain on him but he could see the core clearer now. He wasn't far from it, he was almost there.
He swung his sword at it, it was about to land when the surrounding blue walls that made up the creatures body moved. Like a flood it spun around and surrounded the core.
In a moment it had turned into an incredibly dense and hard barrier, it blue colour was so dark it was starting to look black. However he didn't stop, undetered he swung his blade with all of his strength.
The sword bounced back with a loud bang, surprise appeared in his eyes but he noticed a tiny crack on the barrier which healed immediately after using the surrounding flesh.
More tentacles came behind him, he swung a second time cracking the barrier again but before it could heal he hit it one more time widening the crack.
Unfortunately before he could attack it again a flood of tentacles with their maws as wide as caves and teeth as sharp as spears arrived behind him, he had to turn around to defend himself or he might die to their maddened fury.
He swung his sword left and right sending giant tentacles flying back but they just came back a moment later in their never ending assault. His sword had reduced to 4 metres.
Only a few seconds had passed but already an entire metres worth of his sword had disappeared. Time was definitely not on his side.
Fortunately the crack had not fully healed which meant the process was slow, hope was still there. He turned around and swung his sword at the barrier disregarding the attacks behind him, this widened the yet to fully heal crack
However this created an opening, the closest tentacle latched into his left leg, pain flooded his mind like a wave, he tried to cut it but before he could it ripped his leg off his body.
The pain was mind boggling, he wanted to scream but he could not, he hit the barrier again widening the crack even more. Another tentacle latched into his left arm while another grabbed his right leg.
Swinging the blade with only his right hand he widened the crack even more, now even the core was visible through the crack, his limbs were ripped off his body, he was about to attack again when a tentacle bit his waist.
Before he could swing his sword once more he was pulled back like a string, he watched as the core grew further away from him, despair overcame him, in his last attempt to survive he threw the blade with all of his remaining strength.
He watched as it sailed throught the empty space in the creatures body he had personally carved. As the blade approached the crack he realised something troubling.
The crack was not wide enough for the sword to pass through nor did the sword contain enough power to shatter the barrier, he thought of a solution, his mind working in overdrive.
He realised if he couldn't shatter the barrier then he should try to make the sword pass through the crack and hit the core itself. However the sword was too big so he had to make it smaller.
He tried to control the sword but it was incredibly hard, he realised he couldn't move it, not with his mind but he could turn it back into the gaseous energy form it was originally in and that what he did.
The blood essence on the swords edges turned back into it initial state. The sword grew smaller and smaller until it was as thin as two fingers.
It nolonger looked like a sword but like a very long needle. He watched with bated breath as the needle passed right through the crack and hit the core with click.
Nothing happened, his anticipation died down, he felt despair food his heart. The tentacle was about to rip out his right side and more were coming to rip him into pieces.
Just as he was about to close eyes having given up hope he heard a sound, it was soft, had this place not been so quiet he might not have heard it.
He looked towards where the sound came from and saw it, a crack, there was a crack on the core and it was spreading like a spiders web on top of the core.
In a few moments the core was fully covered in cracks, the tentacles became even more desperate and more and more of them came at him with their mouth wide open. The one latched onto him ripped his waist like a cloth, the pain was unbearable.
Before the others could reach him however the core shattered, a smile surfaced his lips as relief flooded him, his thoughts became slower and he fainted.
