THE DEVIL'S BRIDE
Episode 25: The War Begins
By Rapwizzy Debaron
The sun didn't rise the next morning.
It bled.
Streaks of crimson slashed the sky as if heaven itself had been wounded.
Lucien stood on the hilltop, his eyes narrowed toward the north. Toward the place where Seraphina had disappeared.
"They're moving," he said.
Evelyn joined him, her cloak flapping in the wind. "How many?"
"Too many."
Below them, Kael practiced with a blade far too big for his frame—but his movements were sharp. Determined. A child no longer.
Lucien turned to Evelyn. "He's changing."
"I know," she replied. "I can feel it."
---
That evening, they set up camp inside the ruins of an ancient cathedral. The stone walls whispered forgotten hymns. Shattered stained glass lit the floor with ghostly color.
It was here the first blow was struck.
Not by blade… but by betrayal.
---
A scout burst through the doors, bleeding from the mouth, eyes wide with terror.
"They're here—Seraphina's army—they're not just witches and demons... they've allied with angels."
Lucien's jaw tightened. "Impossible. The Celestials swore neutrality."
The scout shook his head. "They've changed their minds."
A name hissed from Evelyn's lips. "Uriel."
Lucien froze. "You know him?"
"He trained me once… before he feared what I'd become."
Kael stepped forward. "He's the one who tried to kill you."
Evelyn nodded, eyes burning. "He won't fail again. This time—I'll kill him first."
---
That night, their army gathered.
Not soldiers.
Survivors.
Exiles.
The damned.
Lucien addressed them, sword in hand.
"We fight not for power—but for truth. For freedom. For the right to choose our fate."
Evelyn stepped beside him. "And for the child who was never meant to survive."
All eyes turned to Kael.
He raised his blade skyward.
The flames behind him ignited without touch.
"I am not afraid," Kael said. "Let them come."
And so they did.
---
The first wave struck before dawn.
Screams pierced the sky.
Wings beat like war drums.
Seraphina's army, cloaked in black and silver, descended upon the cathedral ruins with fury and grace.
Evelyn fought like flame itself—fast, wild, untamed.
Lucien moved like a shadow, cutting down angels and monsters alike.
And Kael?
Kael walked into battle as if born for it.
A boy with destiny behind his eyes.
---
As blood soaked the altar stones, Evelyn found herself face-to-face with the one angel she feared most.
Uriel.
Golden, unscarred, unforgiving.
"You should have died with your mother," he spat.
She lifted her blade.
"My mother was a queen. You? You're just a coward hiding behind prophecy."
Their swords clashed—
And the war began.
---
To be continued…
A battle ignited.
A past unearthed.
And fate itself now bleeds.
Vote if your heart raced through the flames.
