Chapter 12: Feels Almost Real!
Liu Qin suddenly slammed on the gas, and before Wang Xu could react, he was thrown off the back of the motorcycle and landed flat on his back. Fortunately, he had a basket full of medicinal herbs strapped to his back—otherwise, the fall could've been much worse.
"Hiss... That witch is brutal! You're basically a wild tigress. Whoever marries you in the future is doomed!"Rubbing his sore butt, Wang Xu cursed at Liu Qin's fading silhouette.
Back at home, he transplanted the herb seedlings he had dug up into ceramic pots. If the cultivation method his master taught him actually worked, he planned to begin formally growing medicinal herbs.
After planting the seedlings, he washed and mashed up the collected red sage and aloe, mixing them with a small amount of white liquor to make herbal poultices. This was an effective treatment for external injuries—stopping bleeding, reducing swelling, and healing wounds without leaving scars.
Knock knock knock—Just as Wang Xu finished preparing the medicine and was about to deliver it to Liu Li, a knock sounded at the courtyard gate.
He opened the door to find his neighbor, Wang Na.
"Wang Xu! I talked to my grandma—she not only agrees, she's fully on board! She said we can use our most fertile farmland to grow herbs!" Wang Na said excitedly.
"Really? Haha! That's fantastic! Once my experiment succeeds, we'll start building the greenhouse!" Wang Xu was overjoyed.
With farmland secured, his herbal medicine business plan could finally move forward. He believed that once he gained some fame and made money, other villagers would follow his lead and start growing medicinal herbs too.
When that time came, the entire village could prosper—and they wouldn't have to live under the thumb of the local tyrants anymore.Currently, most of the able-bodied men either worked at the brick factory or for Li Ming's construction company. Farming barely earned anything, so most of the fields were left to the women and elderly. The men only helped during the busiest times.
Right now, the villagers were reliant on Li Ming's family for survival. No one dared go against them. For Wang Xu to get revenge, he had to first dismantle the village tyrants' grip and take away their influence.
"Mhm! Also, my grandma said you should come have lunch at our place. She can't see well but wants to hear your voice," Wang Na said warmly.
Wang Xu felt a wave of warmth. When he was young, Wang Na's grandma had always liked him and said he would become someone important one day.
"Alright! I'll drop this medicine off to Liu Li and then I'll come," Wang Xu agreed cheerfully.
When he arrived at the village chief Luo Ming's house, he saw Liu Li walking out of the courtyard with a tall, handsome young man. The man was helping her carry a ceremonial firecracker cannon.
Huh?Liu Li was leaving?
Wang Xu was stunned."Liu Li, who's this?" he asked, stepping forward.
"Lin Mu... he's a doctor. Old Luo got worried and notified my family. I might be heading home," Liu Li replied, frowning slightly.
Just then, a bald farmhand came over and chatted with Liu Li. The young man beside her looked Wang Xu up and down with a condescending smirk—like he was staring at a beggar on the street.
"You're leaving?" Wang Xu asked, a little taken aback.
He suddenly felt a pang of loss—not just because a beautiful girl was leaving, but because he truly wanted to help her. He couldn't bear seeing someone like Liu Li slowly destroyed by illness. And more importantly, her condition was a source of spiritual motivation for him!
"I... might not come back," Liu Li replied with some sadness.
She had always told her family that everything was fine in Lihua Village. But when she suddenly collapsed today, Chairman Luo Ming got worried and contacted the department that helped assign her here—without telling her. After hearing what happened, Liu Li's family was terrified.Huang Long, a wealthy young man who had been pursuing Liu Li for a while, volunteered to come and pick her up.
The Huangs were old family friends of Liu Li's parents, and they agreed to let him bring her back.
"That's not right! No one can cure your illness but me!" Wang Xu protested.
"Hey! Who the hell are you calling sick?" Huang Long snapped coldly, glaring at Wang Xu. Then he added with scorn, "Why are you still wearing that ridiculous old man's hat? Get lost."
"Liu Li, why don't you leave me your contact info? I'll visit you at your place later. And here, this is a salve I made—it'll help with your wound," Wang Xu said, ignoring Huang Long as he handed over the bamboo container.
"Okay, thanks," Liu Li replied. She didn't have a particularly high opinion of Wang Xu, but she did trust his medical skills. So without much hesitation, she accepted the salve.
But Wang Xu's actions enraged Huang Long.
He was one of the wealthiest heirs in Qingbei County—people usually bent over backward to please him. And now this nobody in an outdated cap dared ignore him? Even worse, he was asking Liu Li for her contact info—right in front of him!
Unforgivable.
Smack!"Disgusting trash! Listen up, you loser—stay away from Liu Li or you'll regret it!" Huang Long shouted, slapping the bamboo container out of Liu Li's hands. The herbal paste spilled all over the ground.
"HUANG LONG! What the hell are you doing? Stay out of my business!"Liu Li screamed in shock and embarrassment, eyes wide.
Wang Xu's anger ignited. He raised his head slowly, glaring at Huang Long with a cold, murderous gaze.
That look made Huang Long's eyelids twitch.Today, he hadn't brought any bodyguards—he just wanted some alone time with Liu Li.Otherwise, he would've had someone teach this idiot a lesson already.
To Huang Long, Wang Xu was just a bumpkin.Actually, all of Lihua Village was beneath him. He could crush them whenever he felt like it.But as a "gentleman," it would be disgraceful to physically fight someone from the countryside.
"Pick up the medicine," Wang Xu said icily.
"You insane or what?! Wang Xu, let's go!"Huang Long ignored him and tried to drag Liu Li away.
"I said—pick up the medicine!"Wang Xu blocked his path and repeated himself, this time with even more force.
"You senile bastard! Sick of living? Get out of my way!"Huang Long lost his temper and swung his fist at Wang Xu.
Crack!
"AH! AHH! IT HURTS!!"Before the punch could land, Wang Xu grabbed his wrist and twisted it slightly.
Huang Long shrieked and dropped to the ground instantly, clutching his arm in pain.
"Wang Xu! Stop!" Liu Li yelled in a panic.
"Say it—will you pick it up or not?" Wang Xu demanded coldly, ignoring her.
"Ah! I—I—I will!"Huang Long had never suffered like this in his entire life. He immediately caved. These pampered rich kids always cracked first under real pain.
So, the famously arrogant heir of Qingbei County really did squat on the ground...And picked up the spilled herbal paste with trembling fingers.
His face was flushed bright red. His eyes were burning with humiliation.
It was the most disgraceful moment of his life.
