Chapter 10 - The invasion

Dr. Meryl's Genetic Laboratory – Washington D.C. – 2:13 AM

The building was asleep, wrapped in clinical silence. Only monitors in standby mode gave off a faint glow in the corridors. Outside, a black van with signal blockers parked quietly on the side. Four agents in tactical gear emerged from the shadows, masks on, visors activated.

"Perimeter clear. Cameras frozen for 3 minutes. Beginning entry."

One approached the emergency side door. A device was plugged into the reader. Green light. The door opened with a soft click.

"We're in. Thermal levels steady. No human presence detected on upper floors."

"Doctor's vault is on sublevel 2. Triple biometrics. You bring her data?"

"Yeah. Pulled from the kid's old appointments. Fingerprint, voice, retina. We just need time."

They moved like shadows. Lights flicked on automatically as they passed through the sterile halls of the lab. One of them opened a hidden panel, revealing a biological vault.

"Here it is. Classification: RE-001."

"That's the one."

"Why the hell did she keep this ?"

"She knew. The kid was unstable when his power surfaced. Ran tests nearly weekly. This… is the key to understanding how someone like him works. And how to stop him."

"Or how to copy him."

One connected a device to the vault. A blue display projected biometric patterns.

"Scanning fingerprint. Voice simulation… now."

A recorder played Dr. Meryl's voice:

"Access granted. Director Meryl Cavanaugh."

With a metallic hiss, the vault opened. Inside, three vials sat on a magnetic cradle, each containing fluid with genetic samples sealed in liquid nitrogen.

"We got the DNA. Full sequence, mapped down to the core. This is worth more than a nuclear missile."

"Which is why he never should've left the country."

"The Japanese have no idea what they're dealing with. That kid could level cities if he loses control."

"Which is why America will make sure he stays… manageable."

One of them transferred the vials into a containment case with temperature sensors and a self-destruct system.

"Done. Let's go before the monitoring cycle kicks back in."

A soft beep. A tiny red light blinked on the console beside the vault.

"Wait... that's not supposed to happen."

"What is it ?"

"She set a passive alert. As soon as the vault opened, it pinged her. Low-frequency channel… almost untraceable."

"She knows."

"Doesn't matter. We've got what we came for. Prep for extraction."

As they left, a hidden monitor behind a cabinet lit up. Dr. Meryl's image appeared, her expression grim as she looked into the camera.

"I knew you'd come."

She typed something into a remote terminal.

"But what you didn't know… is that I made a copy too."

Abandoned warehouse near Langley, Virginia – 4:47 AM

The place was swallowed in darkness, save for a few cold floodlights aimed at the center. A black SUV was parked beside a rusted container. The lab team entered with steady steps. Confident. Cases in hand. Faces still hidden behind tactical masks.

"Right on time. Good."

At the center stood a man in a dark suit. Tall, silver hair slicked back, hands clasped behind his back. Beside him was a towering figure, wearing a gray overcoat, eyes concealed by sunglasses — even at night.

"Mission accomplished. As agreed."

One of them handed over the case. The suited man opened it, inspecting the vials. A small smile crept onto his lips.

"His DNA… intact. Full sequence. Excellent work."

"Then we're even."

"No. You're dismissed."

"'Dismissed' ? What do you mean ?"

"You don't exist. Neither does this mission. Or this sample. If you're caught, if you talk… it all collapses. You knew that going in."

"That wasn't the deal."

"It was what you signed. You knew the risk. You're disposable."

Tension rose. They exchanged looks. One stepped forward, hand inching toward his belt.

"Do it."

The man in the suit gave a slight nod to his bodyguard.

In a blink, the giant vanished. A dry, sharp thud echoed — one of the agents dropped, neck bent at a grotesque angle. The others scattered, weapons drawn, quirks activated.

"TAKE HIM DOWN!"

One launched an electric blast. Another fused the floor to try to trap him. But the bodyguard sliced through the attacks with brutal precision.

With a gesture, his body shattered into hundreds of black needles — a molecular decomposition quirk — and reformed behind one of the agents, impaling him with his own blade-like limbs. The third tried to run. A black chain snapped around his neck, lifting him into the air. His scream ended in a sickening crack.

Silence.

The suited man calmly closed the case. The bodyguard reformed beside him, not a hair out of place.

"Dispose of the bodies. Burn everything. No trace."

"Yes, sir."

He returned to the SUV, the case in hand. Before stepping in, he looked up at the still-dark sky.

"The world is on the verge of a new era. And Revan… will either be the spark—or the weapon."

The SUV drove off, leaving only the scent of blood and gunpowder in the air.

Night – Revan's Home – Japan

I was lying in bed, staring at the ceiling, trying to ignore the gnawing feeling that had followed me all day. Like something had been taken from me without me even noticing.

My senses were restless. Heart racing. A low hum in the back of my mind that wouldn't go away.

My phone buzzed. A notification pattern I'd never seen before. The screen lit up: "Unknown source – ancestral encryption."

My dad loaded this phone with layers of protection… whoever this was, they knew exactly what they were doing.

I hesitated. But something told me I needed to see this.

I tapped the message.

The screen flickered. An old interface — from my days back in the U.S. — took over. Then Dr. Meryl's face appeared. Tired. Scared. But trying to stay composed.

"Revan... if you're seeing this, it means they've acted."

My stomach twisted.

"Your DNA was stolen. A team broke into my lab last night. They took everything I had. Genetic samples, sequences, reports…"

"They were sent by the government. Not national security... but a black division. After they handed over the samples, they were eliminated. Erased. Executed by someone who doesn't leave traces."

My fists clenched. The wood of the headboard creaked under my grip.

"I know you trusted me, Revan. And I know you're angry. But I didn't keep that for greed or power. I wanted to understand you. I wanted to help you control... what no one else can. Your power is beyond what this world has ever known. I tried to protect you. And now... they're coming."

Coordinates appeared on the screen. Latitude. Longitude. A location in the forest outskirts near Washington.

"Find me. I can only explain the rest in person. Revan... forgive me."

The screen went black.

I stayed still for a few seconds. A storm roiled inside me. My chest burned with rage — mixed with something I hated to feel: disappointment.

She messed with my DNA. Without telling me.

Kept pieces of me. Like I was some kind of project. A threat.

And yet… she was one of the few people who never feared me.

I didn't think twice.

I opened my window. The night wind hit my face. I closed my eyes for a second. Took a deep breath.

"If she kept this from me… then she'll have to face me."

I leapt into the sky. Clouds tore apart around me. Within seconds, I was breaking the sound barrier — flying across the world.
