~Paige~
When I heard, "You are going to be a mommy," I was almost happy.
Then a thought dawned on me that a vampire couldn't possibly reproduce.
Everything I have ever learned from stories andmovies is that they are the un-dead, and could not possibly have children.
The doctor kept talking. I saw his lips moving but I was just lost in thought.
I just had a cycle, it didn't make sense to me, whatever tests they ran had to be wrong.
"I just want to go home," I kept insisting.
I have to get out of here, if there was any chance that I was pregnant with Vince's baby, that would be all he would need to control me forever.
I need air, I need pregnancy tests, I need answers.
"I understand, I just want to go," I said to the doctor, though I tuned out most everything he said.
"She said she wants to go home. She will be well taken care of, I assure you, doctor," Adrian said, as he stood up by my side.
I almost forgot he was there, he has been so quiet.
"I'll send someone in with discharge papers soon. Bed rest at home, though, okay?" the doctor said with a gentle smile.
It took thirty minutes just to bring me discharge papers. I assumed the hospital was really busy so I tried not to get upset about it.
The nurse rolled in a wheel-chair as if I couldn't walk.
"No, thank you, I can walk ma'am," I said, trying not to sound ungrateful.
"I am sorry, dear. You have to leave in the chair, it's the rules," she said while setting the bottoms of the wheel chair down.
"Come on, my love," Adrian said, holding a hand out to help me.
Adrian lifted me up and put me in the chair, and we rolled out to the front door where David and
Nicole had pulled the car up.
Adrian must have already texted them to let them know we were coming.
I was so worried that Adrian told them over text, or was going to tell them when we got in the car.
"How are you feeling?" Nicole asked.
"I'll be fine. Will we have enough time to make it home before sunrise?" I asked.
"Yes, girl. We got this, don't you worry," Nicole reassured me. I could tell she didn't know yet. Ifshe knew she wouldn't be able to hide it so well.
They dropped us off, and Adrian insisted on carrying me to bed.
I couldn't stand being babied while I was still angry with him, but I think he knew how hard it was to be mad at him when he's always so kind to me.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Adrian said as he slid into the bed next to me.
"No, really, I don't think I can be.
I just had a cycle, and you couldn't have done this so they had to have been wrong," I said as I pulled the covers up to my face.
Adrian giggled. "I couldn't have done this? What makes you so sure?" he asked.
I rolled my eyes.
"Are you going to tell me that the un-dead can reproduce?" I said with sarcasm.
"The word un-dead is hurtful. I can speak, think, breathe, love, and hurt. And both my wolf and vampire can reproduce. It's rare, but it happens, when it is fated," Adrian said, seeming half angry and half sad. Was I being harsh?
"I am gonna get more tests tomorrow," I said with a sigh.
"No," Adrian said.
"Excuse me?" I asked. I could feel my eyebrows arching, as my temper was getting the best of me.
"I cannot keep you safe if you start trying to ride around places alone, not yet. Not until the son of a bitch that hurt you is no longer a threat," he said with anger.
He had a good point, again. I hate it that he is right.
"We can get more tests tomorrow," Adrian said calmly with emphasis on the we.
He wrapped his arms around me.
I felt exhausted, and he was right.
"Okay. I love you," I said, kissing him on the cheek.
Adrian smiled and kissed me back.
"I love you," he whispered.
I snuggled into his chest and drifted off to sleep.
When I awoke Adrian had a coffee cup sitting next to me on the nightstand, with a note.
"I am going to get the tests you need while I am out. Don't worry—I will get you plenty," the note read with a smiley face.
I shook my head. He's too freaking cute.
I walked to the bathroom and started a bath.
I didn't feel pregnant, but I didn't know what a pregnancy is supposed to feel like.
I am tired and hungry, but that's how I have always been.
I decided to not think about it until I see the tests myself. I stepped into the bath and sipped on my coffee, soaking until I emptied my coffee cup. When I got out of the tub, I wrapped myself up in a towel and searched through my clothes for something comfy. Most of what I had were girly dressy clothes from my shopping trip, but today just felt like a sweatpants day. I searched and searched but no sweatpants, so I went to Adrian's drawer to get some of his.
"Yes," I said, seeing a pair of sweatpants as soon as I opened the drawer.
I slid them on, and noticed the drawer had a small black velvet jewelry box in it. I slid the drawer shut when I heard Adrian coming in the front door.
I slid on one of my off the shoulder tee shirts and went into the living room to greet him.
"Come here," Adrian said, as he set down his shopping bags.
I went to him, as he extended his arms out to embrace me.
I always felt so calm in his arms, so safe, so loved.
"I love you so much, Paige," Adrian said, hugging me tight.
"I love you more," I said with a grin.
"Not possible, because look what I got for you my queen," he said, lifting up the bags and carrying them to the table.
"I didn't know what kind of ice cream you like so I had a few options. Chips, pickles, candy, cookies, typical junk food for a growing hybrid," he said with a smile.
I put my hands on my hips and shook my head with a smile.
"I didn't forget," he said with a sigh.
Adrian pulled four two-packs of pregnancy tests out of one of the shopping bags.
"Thank you," I said, wrapping my arms around him.
"You look pale, are you feeling alright?" he asked, looking concerned.
"I'm fine, a little hungry though," I said.
"My love, do you trust me?" Adrian asked.
Despite the incident at the club, I knew I could trust him.
"Yes," I said with a sigh.
He looked surprised at my answer.
"Okay," he said softly, as he cut a small slit on his shoulder.
"You have to," he said with a sigh.
I nodded. I didn't need him to spell it out for me.
I needed to drink, and although I wasn't sure why, but I knew I could trust him.
Pressing my lips into into his shoulder, I pulled in a swallow of his blood, and instantly felt stronger.
I felt warmth take over my entire body.
I pulled one more swallow in before pulling my lips from his neck.
"You look better already," he said.
It must have been true because I felt better than ever.
The tiredness was gone, and the hunger was gone—I couldn't believe it.
I looked up at him, wondering how, but not forming the words.
"The baby needs my blood my love. He is not human; the vitamins are useless," he said calmly.
"Oh, shit I almost forgot," I said as I grabbed the pregnancy tests and rushed off to the bathroom.
I heard Adrian laugh as I hurried off. He would have really laughed if he knew I was holding my bladder and about to explode.
I peed on two sticks and ran out of juice so I thought I would save the others for round two if I don't like what these had to say.
I waited impatiently staring at the screen of the tests.
While I waited, I looked into the mirror and saw a noticeable difference from when I first woke up.
I did have color in my skin and I looked great, which wasn't exactly the case when I first rolled out of bed.
I sighed and looked down at the tests laying on the counter. Little faint lines appeared and grew bolder…positive.
I started hyperventilating.
I had it staring me in my face now, proof that what the doctor said was true.
I was pregnant.
