Chapter 08
But in my mind, there was nothing.
I couldn't give Xu Nian the reaction he was waiting for.
His intense, burning gaze on me gradually grew cold.
Someone hurried over from the other end of the elevator.
A tall, muscular man in a suit stood half a head taller than Xu Nian,
but he stopped in front of him, bowing his head respectfully.
In a pleading tone, he said, "Young master, the car is waiting downstairs.
You'll be late for class."
Xu Nian gently lowered his black eyelashes,
and for a moment, he looked like he was disappointed.
Then, without a word, he sharply turned around, about to leave.
But as he was walking away, his movements faltered.
He paused, brows furrowing once more.
He glanced across the hallway at me, then looked toward the glass window.
"Get your injuries taken care of," he said quietly.
I followed his gaze to the rough bandages wrapped around my arm and leg in the mirror.
The system hadn't offered me any help since my arrival,
and the little money I had left could barely cover food and shelter.
There was no way I could afford hospital treatment.
By the time I turned back, Xu Nian was already gone.
My gaze drifted from the glass window to the reflection above—
my blurry face staring back at me.
