Chapter 13
Under Qin Jinnan's unwavering gaze, I placed the pill on the ground beside him.
Before I could turn to leave, I was caught off guard when his cold hand suddenly gripped my wrist.
His touch was chilling, sending a wave of discomfort through me.
I lowered my eyes, meeting his.
We were so close, our faces almost touching.
His intense gaze bored into me.
"Who are you?" he finally hissed, his voice low but sharp.
The dim light barely illuminated the space, but I could still see something flickering in his dark pupils—a strange mix of curiosity and suspicion.
He moved too fast for me to react.
Before I could even think of a response, he yanked the mask off my face.
In that instant, the raw, jagged scars on my skin were exposed to him.
His eyes locked onto them, and for a moment, the world seemed to freeze.
His gaze was unrelenting.
It felt too close.
Too intimate.
And my disfigured face—it must have terrified him.
I instinctively reached up to retrieve my mask, wanting to hide once again.
But as I did, something caught my attention.
A silver necklace slipped from his grasp, falling into his palm with a soft clink.
The necklace had a silver dial, and within it, a smiling girl's face was engraved.
I quickly turned my eyes away, unable to bear the sight any longer.
I left the pill beside him and turned to leave, determined not to look back.
This time, he didn't stop me.
As I reached the door, I glanced back one last time.
Qin Jinnan remained seated, his body stiff, still in that cold, dark suit.
But his posture had crumbled, his appearance disheveled.
The sight of him, vulnerable in that moment, caught me off guard.
