Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Moonless Nights

The rain finally stopped as everyone returned home very late at night, with a group of guys carrying Benjamin back home, waving to Tiger and Rose as they headed in the opposite direction.

"I never knew a place like this was even possible," Tiger said, his palm in his pocket, as he and Rose walked through the city under the flashing streetlights.

"You never looked. You've really changed a lot, you know?" Rose said, swinging her bag.

"You think so?" Tiger asked, gazing up at the night sky.

"When you look at the sky, what do you see?" Rose asked, stopping to gaze at the moon above the beach.

"I see the stars and sometimes the moon," Tiger responded, facing her.

"You're a little bit like the night sky," Rose noted, raising her hand to the sky.

"How so?" Tiger asked, walking to her side.

"You're the dark sky, while your mom was the moon that made you happy," Rose said, turning to look at him.

"Your point is?" Tiger's voice thickened as his expression gradually changed.

"She was the one who made your life beautiful, but when your mom died, so did your moon," Rose said, as a cold, chilling wind blew across the silence between them.

"You see, that's where you're wrong," Tiger said, turning away. "Yes, my life is currently like the night sky, and yes, my mom was my moon. But..." Tiger held his palm together. "Death is the cloud cover that took my moon away from me."

Tiger turned to face Rose, his eyes burning with fury, his once-smiling face now lost. Rose looked at him and immediately slapped him.

"You still want to go down that path again, don't you?" Rose yelled.

"Why did you hit me?" Tiger asked.

"Hit you? I'll hit you a thousand more if you don't open your eyes. Your moon is gone, but your stars are still there. Can't you see? Is vengeance the only path for you to move forward?"

"If you're going to keep shouting, it's best to go back from where you came from," Tiger said.

Time seemed to freeze around Rose as she stared into Tiger's eyes, and nothing seemed to be inside anymore.

"Until I find out who caused my mother's death, I won't stop my revenge," Tiger said boldly.

"That's the end of that. Seeing as your place is far, why don't you stay at my—" Rose cut him short, throwing her bag at his face.

"Just shut it," Rose said, looking at the ground. "Your mother was worried about you before she died. I can see why."

Rose turned to leave but stopped after a few steps.

"Before that darkness takes you, your stars will start shining before you become lost, and I will be part of those stars," Rose said, picking up her bags and calling a taxi before leaving.

The once-vibrant city fell quiet once more as the rain, which had stopped, began to fall again.

"Thanks for mocking me, sky. Just what I needed," Tiger said sadly, as rain droplets fell on him, watching Rose leave.
