Chapter 26 - Chapter 26 – A Love Polygon's Peaceful Morning Commute

The rest of the evening passed in blissful peace. After dinner, Yui lingered a while longer—blushing often, stealing glances at Haruno, and awkwardly trying to pretend she wasn't now part of his increasingly chaotic love life. Eventually, she took her leave, still flustered, but smiling faintly as she waved goodbye.

Unfortunately, Haruno never got the "group bath" he'd been teased with earlier, though Ryouko's professional-grade massage did wonders for his sore body. Dinner, thankfully, was still satisfying—this time a variety of sushi delivered by Ryouko's go-to restaurant. Apparently, she wasn't much of a cook, but Haruno wasn't about to complain.

After eating, Haruno glanced over his schoolwork, only to realize he was too mentally drained to care. He flopped into bed early, still savoring the goodnight kisses from both Lala and Ryouko. Lala, in particular, had whispered something about how she used to bathe with her maids back home and didn't mind sharing a bed either. Haruno didn't think much of it—until he woke up.

"…I must've been really out cold," he muttered, groggy-eyed. His body was heavy, warm, and… oddly soft? He blinked.

Lala had slipped under the covers during the night, one arm wrapped tightly around him. Her tail gently flicked across his leg, sending tiny shivers through him. Her body clung to his side, and as she shifted slightly in her sleep, something soft and supple pressed against his arm.

"Ugh… this backlash is too real…" Haruno groaned, blood threatening to spill from his nose. Despite the comfort, his brain entered emergency mode, torn between bliss and panic.

"It's really… quite stimulating," Haruno muttered, struggling to plug his nose with a tissue as the familiar rush of blood threatened to spill. Despite being mature in mind thanks to his past life, he was never more than eighteen in either life—and in his previous one, illness had stolen most of his youth. He never got to experience much beyond books and dreams, let alone anything remotely romantic or intimate.

Sex? Never happened. Kissing? Maybe twice, and both in this world. So naturally, being in bed with a scantily clad alien princess who clung to him like a body pillow was enough to overload his system.

His hand twitched. "Ugh… it's like my hand's got a magnetic pull or something…" he groaned. He wasn't proud of it, but the softness that pressed into his arm was unlike anything he'd felt before. In his innocent mind, Lala's chest wasn't just soft—it was a sacred mountain peak, impossible to ignore.

Still, a part of him held onto reason. Haruno carefully peeled himself away and tiptoed out of the room, determined to ask for permission like a proper man… rather than grope someone in their sleep.

To his surprise, the smell of breakfast greeted him. Ryouko stood at the counter, plating toast with fried eggs and a simple salad.

"Oh, you're up," she said casually, before turning and giving him a quick peck on the cheek. "Breakfast's ready. I'll go wake Lala."

Haruno stood frozen for a second, cheeks red. Ryouko winked. "Enjoy the food~"

And with that, she walked off, leaving a slightly stunned—and still very flustered—Haruno behind.

To be honest, the last two days had been a whirlwind—but compared to the week right after his parents left for work overseas, this life was far more fulfilling. Back then, Haruno had to handle everything himself, from breakfast to dinner, and his apartment felt like a quiet, empty shell. He was used to cooking for himself, and frankly, he was better at it than most. But having breakfast prepared by someone else—especially his girlfriend—somehow tasted better.

And that girlfriend, Ryouko, didn't exactly tone down the visual appeal either. When he walked into the kitchen, the sight of her casually cooking in just her nurse's coat—with a glimpse of her sexy black lingerie barely concealed beneath—nearly sent him spiraling into another nosebleed.

"Haah… This is kinda dangerous," Haruno muttered, forcing himself to focus on the food. "Oh, this toast is actually good." He took another bite, just as Lala's cheerful voice echoed from the hallway, signaling she'd woken up.

So began another "peaceful" morning in the chaos that was his new life.

After a quick breakfast, Ryouko left earlier than them—naturally, since she was a teacher. Haruno, meanwhile, walked to school with Lala by his side. He'd chosen Sainan High because of its proximity to his apartment, especially knowing his parents would be away. At the time, he didn't remember anything about anime or manga, and yet, by strange fate, he'd still ended up in that school. It felt like destiny—or comedy—had written his life from the start.

And thanks to that twist of fate, he met Yui. Their apartments weren't far from each other, so when he turned the corner with Lala, there she was—waiting, arms folded and cheeks slightly pink.

"Ah... Good morning, Yui!" Lala beamed as she cheerfully waved her left hand, her other arm still wrapped tightly around Haruno's.

"Y-Yes, good morning… Lala, Haruno..." Yui replied, her voice slightly awkward as her gaze lingered on Haruno. Her cheeks flushed a little deeper, especially as she said his name. It was still so new—so strange—to call a boy her age like that. And even stranger to realize that just yesterday… she'd kissed him.

'Geez… what am I even thinking?' she groaned internally, recalling the moment.

When she was alone in her room later that night, those memories kept replaying in her mind. The complicated feelings. The awkwardness. But also… the happiness. That kiss had been so warm and unexpectedly sweet, and despite the chaos of their relationship, she couldn't stop smiling.

Afterward, they had a quiet, pleasant dinner. Unlike her own quiet home, where her busy parents were rarely around, Haruno's apartment had felt… comforting. She had felt at peace there, like they were an ordinary couple sharing an ordinary evening—even if nothing about their relationship was really ordinary.

Haruno had even given her a spare key, telling her she was welcome any time. And just last night, while reviewing notes, Yui had caught herself smiling at the key resting on her desk. It was such a small thing, yet to her, it made everything feel a little more real.

Maybe this strange new life wasn't so bad after all.

"Good morning, Yui… You look cute as always," Haruno said with an easy smile, his tone warm and casual—like it was the most natural thing in the world to greet her that way.

Yui's face turned rosy. "G-Geez… Let's just go to school already!" she huffed, though her voice lacked any real bite. Deep down, she was happy to hear it. Compliments from Haruno always hit differently—maybe because he said them so sincerely, so effortlessly.

"Yes!" Lala chimed in with her usual cheerful energy.

"Sure," Haruno added.

The three began walking toward Sainan High together, the morning sunlight painting their path in soft gold. Lala remained firmly clinging to Haruno's arm, her presence bright and affectionate as ever. Meanwhile, Yui kept pace on his other side, a small, almost invisible distance away.

Yui glanced at Lala, then at Haruno's hand, then quickly away. She didn't say anything, but Haruno noticed. He always had a soft spot for Yui—maybe because she wasn't as flashy or otherworldly as Lala or Ryouko, but still had her own quiet charm. In his past life, he'd always liked Yui more than Haruna, even if she didn't get as much spotlight.

Understanding her hesitation, Haruno gently moved his hand, brushing his pinky against hers.

"Ah…" Yui's eyes widened in surprise, but her lips curved into a shy smile. Her cheeks pinkened even more, and she instinctively locked her little finger with his. It was a tiny gesture, but it spoke volumes.

Their eyes met for a moment, and Yui whispered softly, "Thank you…"

Haruno smiled back at her, and just like that, the morning walk became something special—a brief, sweet slice of happiness in their strange, shared journey.
