"I just need a few minutes to adjust myself, and I will be fine..." Ruyi spoke up, her voice low and strained. "It's nothing serious that should worry you, I probably moved too much."
"You were sweating in your sleep and your temperature was slightly higher than usual last night, and you moved around too much than usual!" He reached for his mobile phone, "I'm calling Dr. Sophie, I want her to check up on you and make sure everything is well, we can't ignore anything...."
Ruyi didn't argue with him and knew this wasn't the time to argue with him. She leaned back and closed her eyes again waiting to see the doctor.
Wan Ruyi kept her eyes closed as Lu Zhi Hao sat beside her, silent for a while before he poured some warm water into a small cup and placed it on the bedside table within her reach.
"You need to drink something when you can," he said simply, but at the same time, he was worried, seeing her panicked expressions, he didn't dare say anything to rile her emotions up. He ought to stay calm.
Ruyi opened her eyes slightly, looking at him, and could tell he was worried even though he was trying to hide it.
His brows were drawn together, eyes studying her face quietly but his eyes were deeper than an ocean.
"I will drink in a minute, stop worrying..." she murmured, shifting her body slightly to ease the dull ache in her lower back and abdomen.
Zhi Hao didn't say anything more. He was nervous.
He hurriedly adjusted the pillow behind her so she could lean back comfortably without straining her spine.
His movements were careful, almost mechanical, but his hands lingered on her shoulders for a moment, pressing down gently to keep her steady.
He kissed her forehead before withdrawing. They were in such a rough spot last night, and they couldn't blame anyone if things got out of hand. You can't be successful in everything.
"I have called Dr. Sophie. She will be here soon," he said, sitting back down on the chair near the bed gazing at her worriedly.
Ruyi loudly exhaled, looking at him with tired eyes. Last night was a rough night for their family. "You don't have to sit here, you can go and take a walk. I'm fine."
He glanced at her, expression unreadable only his eyes showed how worried he was. "I know you are fine. I'm just sitting here and waiting for the doctor."
She didn't argue further, she leaned her head against the pillow and closed her eyes again.
The room was quiet except for the distant ticking of the wall clock. Neither spoke, but neither moved away. They waited for thirty minutes before they could see the doctor.
Zhi Hao's phone buzzed a while later. He checked the screen and stood up.
"Dr. Sophie is here," he notified her exhaling in relief.
She nodded faintly, bracing herself as the door opened and footsteps approached.
Dr. Sophie stepped into the bedroom in the guidance of the guard, her white coat rustling softly.
She offered a calm smile as she approached the king-sized bed where the patient was lying. The bedroom was so fancy and smelled fresh.
"Good morning, Ruyi," she greeted warmly eying her before nodding at Lu Zhi Hao cordially, "How are you feeling today?"
Wan Ruyi slowly opened her eyes, forcing a small smile despite her fatigue and headaches rushing in like a whirlwind, "Morning, Dr. Sophie. I… feel a little heavy and my lower back slightly hurts. But I don't think it's something serious!"
