"Man, rich people sure do know how to throw a party," Tara's voice cut through the comm.
The party reminded me of the night Damon hired me to be his bodyguard. The hall was huge and beautifully decorated. Chandeliers hung from the ceilings, lighting up the room.
"Focus, Tara."
"Right, sorry," she cleared her throat.
She hummed softly. "What'd you do with George?"
I touched my bracelet. "I called Kyle."
"You didn't tell him to kill him, right?" she sounded alarmed.
"Of course not. I just told him to delay him a little."
"Good. 'Cause you know Kyle wouldn't hesitate to kill for you," she smiled.
I smiled. "I know."
She paused. "What happened between the two of you?"
"Nothing."
A waiter passed by with champagne, and I grabbed a glass. I needed it.
"Should you be drinking on duty?" a voice said, and I turned.
Isaiah smiled brightly. His gaze fell on my dress, his smile growing bigger. The dress was a perfect fit. It was a short tight dress that hugged my curves, and exposed my toned thighs. The puffy sleeves stood out, glittering under the bright light.
"Who is that? He's hot!" Tara yelled.
I squirmed; her loud voice almost busted my eardrums.
"Oops, sorry."
"Are you gonna bust me for drinking on duty?" I asked.
Isaiah's gaze met mine, his eyes twinkling. "I can keep a secret."
"Good," I held out the glass and downed the content.
"You must have really needed a drink," he chuckled.
I stared at Damon who stood a few feet away, chatting with guests and laughing. I couldn't remember the last time he smiled at me like that.
"You've no idea," I shook my head.
"You know," he stepped closer to me. "I've been told I'm a good listener."
"I bet he's good at other things too," Tara chimed in.
Ugh.
"Is that so?" my eyes met Damon's. His smile dropped when he saw Isaiah beside me, his eyebrows furrowing.
"Why don't you see for yourself?"
I turned to him quickly. I didn't want Damon to misunderstand.
"Sorry, I don't think it's something you can help with," I said.
"That's a shame," he smiled.
"A shame indeed," Tara said.
I could see Damon approaching from the corner of my eye and I cussed under my breath.
"Mr. Jobbers," his voice was low. Too low.
"Mr. Walker," Isaiah nodded.
"Nice party you got going on," Damon said.
Isaiah laughed. "I'm glad it's to your taste."
He placed his hand on my back softly. "I was just telling Ms. Wells how good of a listener I was."
Damon's gaze zeroed in on his hand on my back and I stepped away from Isaiah. Damon's jaw tightened as he sucked his teeth.
"I see."
The silence made sweat run down my back. Damon's hardened gaze on me and Isaiah's smile made me want to find a place to hide.
"Damon," a chirpy voice called and beautiful woman with brown hair rushed over,
Her arms interlocked with Damon's, and I folded my fists. Who was she to touch him like that?
"Ella," he smiled.
I seethed. Why was he staring at her like that? What was their relationship?
"Is it hot in here or it's just me?" Tara's voice was starting to annoy me.
"Shut up," I muttered.
"Mr. Jobbers, it's nice to meet you," she held out her hand to him.
Isaiah took it politely and smiled. "Pleasure's mine."
"And this is...," her voice trailed off as she stared at me.
"Ivy Wells-."
"My date," Isaiah smiled.
"Oh, well then, it's nice to meet you," she held out her hand towards me.
"I don't share the sentiment," I smiled.
Damon stared at me in surprise while Isaiah whistled lowly.
"Damn, Mia," Tara chimed in.
Her smile faded instantly. "I see."
Her fingers laced with Damon's, and I glared at her.
"I'm just gonna grab him," she said awkwardly and took him with her.
I grabbed two glasses of champagne from the waiter.
"Oh, these are mine," I told Isaiah when he stretched out his hand.
"Alright," he chuckled.
I downed one instantly and passed him the empty glass.
"Who the hell is she?" I asked.
Her head bopped as she laughed at something Damon said. He wasn't that funny.
I gulped down the remaining champagne and sighed.
"Ella Anderson, daughter of Tyron Anderson," Isaiah said.
I glared at him. "Am I supposed to know who that is?"
He chuckled. "I suppose not. He's well known in the oil industry. Now she's-," he pointed to Ella. "The heiress to the biggest company in the country."
I scoffed. "And what relationship does she have with Damon?"
I was starting to get tipsy.
"There was a rumor they dated a while back," he said.
