Chapter 66: Spell Duel with Professor McGonagall
"Well, let's go to sleep quickly. We have so many classes tomorrow, don't we?"
With that, Ron quickly turned over, pulling the blanket over half of his head.
Dylan shook his head and didn't say anything more.
Neville and Seamus chuckled.
The night passed without incident.
The next day,
Ron avoided Dylan.
Dylan ignored him and, after finishing his classes, went to Professor McGonagall's office door.
He was a bit apprehensive.
Because today he planned to ask Professor McGonagall if he could practice the Transfiguration Charm in a real duel – with Professor McGonagall herself.
However, he wasn't sure how Professor McGonagall would react after knowing his idea.
He stood rooted at the door for a long time, hesitating to go in.
But the next moment, the door suddenly opened automatically.
"Come in," Professor McGonagall's crisp voice came.
Dylan was stunned. Before his brain could react, his legs had already carried him across the threshold.
Professor McGonagall was sitting behind the large oak desk, her gaze behind her spectacles holding a hint of doubt.
"Why didn't you knock?"
Dylan coughed dryly and chuckled. "I suddenly thought of something, so I stood at the door thinking for a while."
Professor McGonagall didn't think much of it, but nodded gently. Then she asked Dylan to take out his notebook and began explaining the spell details to him, answering his questions one by one.
Towards the end, Professor McGonagall's gentle gaze turned to Dylan.
"Actually, your understanding of the Transfiguration Charm is already very profound. All I can do now is guide you in the general direction of your learning and help you better shape the spell, including secondary shaping."
Dylan nodded, a surge of impulse rising within him.
Finally, he mustered his courage, raised his head, and said in one breath, "Professor McGonagall, I was thinking, since I already have a relatively deep theoretical foundation in the Transfiguration Charm, then..."
"Could I have a practical duel with you using the Transfiguration Charm? We can counter each other's transfiguration spells."
Afraid that Professor McGonagall would overthink it, Dylan quickly added,
"I just want to test my learning results. Of course, I also very much hope to gain more from dueling with you."
Professor McGonagall's eyes widened slightly upon hearing this, and the quill in her hand paused in mid-air, a hint of surprise flashing across her face.
However, she wasn't averse to Dylan's suggestion. In fact, students who proactively asked professors for practical duels were rare.
After a brief silence, Professor McGonagall's lips curved upwards. Not only did she not reject Dylan's proposal, but she also showed an approving smile.
"Dylan, your courage and enterprising spirit are quite Gryffindor-like. I am very pleased to see these qualities in you."
With that, Professor McGonagall stood up, gracefully walked around the desk, and stood in the center of the spacious office, raising her wand.
"Come then, let me see your current strength."
Unexpectedly, Professor McGonagall's attitude wasn't as strict as he had imagined; instead, she agreed directly.
Dylan's heart filled with joy.
He also stood up quickly.
Seeing Professor McGonagall standing calmly in place, looking at him quietly,
Dylan knew that Professor McGonagall was letting him make the first move.
He took a deep breath and didn't directly use the Transfiguration Charm on Professor McGonagall right away. Instead, he fixed his gaze on the paperweight on the desk, waved his wand, and said clearly and forcefully, "Transfiguration Shift!"
A beam of pink light shot out from the tip of his wand, instantly hitting the paperweight.
In the blink of an eye, the paperweight turned into an agile squirrel, flicking its bushy tail and pouncing towards Professor McGonagall.
"Squeak squeak!"
Dylan wanted to try using the Transfiguration Charm on another object and then attacking Professor McGonagall to see if it would trigger the completion of the refinement task.
But after waiting for a long time, he didn't receive any system prompts.
"A squirrel can't hurt anyone."
Professor McGonagall remained unhurried, a hint of approval flashing in her eyes. Then she waved her wand and softly chanted, "Form Reconstruction!"
A soft green light flew towards the squirrel. In an instant, the squirrel was enveloped in the light and transformed again, becoming an exquisite crystal brooch, refracting colorful light as it landed in Professor McGonagall's hand.
Dylan's gaze paused.
The interplay of Transfiguration Charms, unlike the clash of attacking spells, didn't have extremely strong visual effects.
The fact that the object he had transfigured had been re-transfigured meant that the opponent's magic had to completely cover and thoroughly消滅 (xiāomiè - eliminate/annihilate) his magic!
Professor McGonagall could easily transform the squirrel he had turned into a living creature back into a brooch.
This small detail alone showed that Professor McGonagall's mastery of the Transfiguration Charm still far surpassed his!
Dylan didn't dare to slack off. His eyes swept towards the umbrella in the corner, and he waved his wand. "Property Transformation!"
The umbrella "whooshed" and instantly transformed into a cobra with its head raised and tongue flicking, its triangular head held high as it quickly slithered towards Professor McGonagall, its hissing sound chilling to the bone.
"Not bad, finding similar objects to transform increases the success rate, and the effect of the transformation will also be better."
Professor McGonagall smiled gently, slightly sidestepped, and drew an elegant arc in the air with her wand. "Reverse Incantation!"
Silver-white light flashed like a sharp blade.
As magic enveloped the cobra, the venomous snake Dylan had conjured instantly turned back into an umbrella.
It fell to the ground with a "thump," the ribs of the umbrella making a crisp sound on the floor.
Dylan narrowed his eyes. The time was about right.
He raised his voice to remind her, "Be careful, Professor McGonagall!"
Dylan pointed his wand directly at Professor McGonagall and shouted with all his might, "Vera Verto!"
A powerful pink magical light surged out, whistling through the air as it rushed towards Professor McGonagall.
"Use all your strength," Professor McGonagall chuckled. "But spells don't become stronger just because you shout louder."
Professor McGonagall held her wand horizontally in front of her. "Vera Verto!"
The light emitted from Professor McGonagall's wand, compared to the dazzling pink light Dylan had cast, was more concentrated and powerful, like a dragon poised to strike, rushing towards the pink light.
The two beams of light collided in mid-air with a resounding boom!
For a moment, the entire office was filled with dazzling light.
Strong magical fluctuations spread outwards like shockwaves.
Professor McGonagall stood firmly in place, her figure unmoving, while Dylan gradually couldn't withstand Professor McGonagall's magic, his steps beginning to stagger backward.
He steadied his wand, trying to increase the power of his spell.
But the next moment...
Dylan's spell was gradually suppressed in the continuous clash, and then, Professor McGonagall's magic completely engulfed Dylan.
Suddenly, a round, pink, chubby little pig appeared.
"Oink oink?!"
