The next day there was a class that every Mage had to attend, no exceptions.
Survival training!
For this class, they would not be attending a class where a teacher would be giving lectures. No they would be using a special venue that was not even in the Alpha academy for this training.
A Fallen city!
And as the class is called they would have to survive in that city for the next 24 hours.
…
Drake stood in a large plaza with the twins and Sylvia, they were waiting together for the official to call their names so they could go and receive their own armor and weapons.
The seven Wolff brothers had said something about having to face a special type of training thanks to their special ability, apparently it was thanks to their grandfather pulling some strings.
Drake thought it was okay, after all with an ability to merge all their powers to form the 7 Day Wolff they could probably blow through any training for regular 2 star Mages like it were nothing but a gentle breeze.
Anyway thanks to their training they would not be participating in regular survival training.
"Their grandfather must be very influential to have been able to do something like pull a few strings with the academy's higher ups." Sylvia exclaimed.
Drake and the twins also nodded in agreement. Then Paul said, "We have to do our best. With them going through special training, they are definitely going to be getting stronger fast. We can't lose to them!
"That's right! We still haven't had our spar with them yet. It will be bad for our iMage as seniors if we lose to them, special training or no." Peter nodded.
The twins were happy for their friends getting stronger, but they were also competitive. So they were even more fired up and wanted to quickly go train with this news.
Drake smiled and a fire burned in his own eyes as well. He himself was a bit of a war maniac, so the thought of a good fight coming up excited him.
"Look isn't that that Desert Lion Seth?"
"That is Desert Lion Seth! What is he doing here? I thought he was on the frontlines."
"Do you think he is a new teacher at Alpha academy?"
Suddenly there was a commotion at the front, a small stage had been erected there with several military officers and personnel around it. at this time a large armored man with brown hair having a scar from some kind of beasts claw running from his left eye down his cheek climbed up the stage with a fierce look on his face.
…
"Most of you recognize me, I am Commander Seth! I will be taking charge for the duration of your survival training, so listen up. Survival training is different from your regular classes where you have teachers give lectures." He only gave a short introduction before getting straight down to business.
"We will not be doing that here, instead you will be sent out into a fallen city to survive on your own for the 24 hours." He continued.
"The fallen city is as stated, a city that fell to the invasion of Demonic beasts and is currently overrun by magical beasts. For 24 hours, that will be your training ground.
Most of you came to Alpha academy with your own special battle armors and weapons provided to you from your families. But, you will not be using any of those for this training session.
During this Survival training you will each be provided a set of standard military battle armor and a weapon of you own choosing. Apart from those you will receive nothing else, you will hunt for your food and water."
If you run into any life threatening danger or you can't go on any longer, you can retire from the class by simply calling out your surrender. Once this is recorded an official will come and escort you out of the fallen city. However, if you do surrender you will not receive as many Mage points as you would if you survived the whole 48 hours.
Every hour spent in the fallen city is equivalent to 10 Mage points, after 24 hours you will receive 240 Mage points, and if you survive the whole 24 hours you will also receive a bonus of 500 Mage points. If you surrender however, you will not receive the bonus and the points will be cut off according to the time you lasted."
"Any other rules you can read yourself on your student token, but there is one last thing I would like to remind you of."
His voice turned grim when he reached this part, "I want you to remember that students are strictly prohibited from fighting against each other. If you are found fighting against each other you will be shot and killed directly, and if you cause any mischief that leads to the death of another student you will be executed on the spot." His eyes were so sharp it was like his gaze could cut you down if you became a target.
"I don't care whether you have enmities once you are up against the enemy you are on the same side. If you cannot work together then you had better go your separate ways. But if you dare try to kill another human I will not hesitate to put you down permanently. We are not training people that will stab each other in the back on the battlefield." Once he was done speaking he nodded to the other military officers.
"All students of the Elementary class please come forward to receive your combat armor and weapons.
In Alpha academy there were only three classes for students no matter what star rank you were. Elementary class for 1 and 2 star Mages whether the students were new or old did not change it, then came the Elite class for 3 star Mages, and finally was the Master class for 4 star Mages.
Anything outside these three classes meant you were either a teacher or someone with an official position in the academy.
Before long all the Elementary class students had all their gear and left to equip.
…
Inside the changing room, everyone was getting dressed in their military equipment, which mainly consisted of a suit of Battle armor and a weapon of the students choice.
These days everyone used Cold weapons. The reason being because most weapons only just needed a little bit of material containing magic energy to be infused when they were being forged and you could use that weapon to kill magic beasts.
The quantity of materials you could use to form ten bullets would be enough to forge one sword. But you could only kill one magic beast with one bullet. Yet, you could kill a hundred beasts and maybe more with one sword.
If you still wanted to use a hot weapon, then you would have to spend a fortune to purchase a high tech weapon. But not everybody could afford these high tech weapons.
So most people would rather just settle for a Cold weapon
There was still another reason why people preferred Cold weapons, that is because bullets were expensive. And every bullet used was a bullet lost which meant money lost.
Drake sheathed his sword, he had already finished putting on his armor by now, then he thought he should take a look at the rules for the survival training. When he saw at the award system he couldn't help but laugh.
For a 1 star Mage, if you kill a Grade 1 beast, you will receive 10 Mage points. If you kill a Grade 2 beast you will receive 100 Mage points and if you kill a 3 star beast you will receive 1000 points.
This award system was really funny; whoever set it up was really quite the prankster.
Normally it was common sense that even though a Grade 1 beast was ranked to be on the same level as a 1 star Mage, a 1 star Mage could not hope to win in a one-on-one fight. Only a 2 star Mage stood a chance of killing it.
Yet, this joker set it so if you were to only kill a beast at a lower level you would only receive 1 Mage point, and if you were on the same level as the beast you would receive 10 Mage points.
Also for every rank higher than you the beast was you would receive 10 times the reward for the immediate lower rank. This guy must have been playing a joke.
Then again when it comes to killing beasts any method goes, whether head on confrontation, traps or poison.
'Does that mean that mean if I kill a Grade 6 beast as a 1 star Mage I would instantly get 1,000,000 points?' Drake thought.
When he looked around he could almost see the dollar signs in several students eyes, they had all thought the same thing. But Drake knew that the idea was just a pipe dream, and not just any type but a suicidal one.
But then again, humans loved finding flashier and flashier ways to court death.
"Damn, this military gear is really sick! It's all top notch equipment." At this time Drake noticed a group of four guys that were still putting up their equipment talking.
"That's right! If you were to calculate the price of all the equipment you alone are carrying it's worth at least 10,000 Mage points." One of the guy's friends nodded in agreement.
"Now you know where your taxes go, and don't forget that this is the weakest armor the military uses." The tall older guy who seemed to be their leader among them said.
"To think this is only the weakest equipment the military uses. I'm envious." the second guy sighed guy sighed.
"What's there to envy? There ours now aren't they?" The first guy said with a grin.
"Don't get your hopes up kid, we're only borrowing them for the survival class." The leader shook his head.
"You're right. But, just look at this gear, I'm pretty sure even Grade 2 and maybe even Grade 3 beasts can't rip them apart." The first guy said still in admiration of the suits quality. He was not from a powerful family so this armor was some of the most expensive stuff he had ever worn.
"Don't look down on magic beasts!" his friend quickly cut him off. "Even if they can't rip those armors open all they need is to land one smack on you and the impact alone would be enough to break your bones and smash your internals to paste."
Their leader also nodded grimly.
Drake also had a solemn look on his face, these words could not be more true.
In fact he was thinking that they had missed something, and that is that what if the beasts did not attack the armor?
What if they aimed for the head?
…
"All right now that you have all gotten your equipment you will be transported to the fallen city, there will be beasts everywhere in the city so you will have to rely on yourselves, your time will start counting the moment your feet touch the ground."
As soon as the voice disappeared a ripple spread in the sky above the plaza and soon a large portal was formed above them. A bright light shone from the armband tokens and a thin veil enveloped each student which then shot them up into the portal where they disappeared once they entered.
"Okay you three! Remember, be careful. We will probably be scattered to different parts of the battleground so do your best to protect yourselves and try to find each other." Drake exhorted sternly.
The twins and Sylvia nodded before the light also enveloped them and they vanished into the portal.
In this way almost 900 students were teleported to the battlefield for the survival training.
