Drake landed in what looked like a park. There were trashed vehicles of all sizes around him, the grass was overgrown and the buildings were tattered.
"That spatial portal was definitely not any regular space technology. It felt like when Janus uses teleportation though not as stable. It was definitely the work of another Mage with space affinity." Drake was shocked and impressed. 'To think Alpha academy has such a powerful space Mage, I guess it should be expected of the oldest academy on Sanctuary.'
Thanks to Queen and Anna he knew that Mages with special affinities like Space, time, Gravity and a few were very rare. And the ones with powerful cultivation's were even rarer.
Even Obsidian Palace only had about five of them, despite the few thousand people that worked for the Palace all across the empire. Even with how long he had spent at the academy, he had not seen any other Mage with space affinity after the twins.
…
Looking around, he took in all the details of his surroundings. He had landed in a car park not too far from what looked like what used to be a supermarket.
'This position isn't too good, it's way too open. I need to find a better place where I can hide or I'll be in trouble if I get surrounded.'' He thought and a starry helix appeared swirling in his eyes.
'Eye of Order'
Once he activated this special ability, his range of vision instantly multiplied reaching 500 meters, and every detail in that range was visible to him.
Suddenly, the 'Eye of Order' captured a shadow quietly approaching him from the direction of the supermarket behind him while trying to hide itself among the cars.
Grade 1 beast: Wild Cat!
Battle Power: 600
This magical beast was evolved from a domestic house cat. Yet, thanks to it's evolution its former adorable traits were completely replaced with a berserk killing intent.
The Wild Cat was about 1.5 meters tall which made it almost as tall as Drake himself was, and it liked to quietly creep up on and assassinate its prey. it was a very fast beast.
If Drake had run into this kind of magic beast before becoming a Mage, he would do his best to run before it found him and chose him as a target.
Cat species were especially known for their agility so he did not want to alert it that he knew of it's presence. If possible he wanted to finish it off in one blow. Otherwise if they got into a confrontation, it would only get harder to land a hit on the feline.
Luckily the mischievous little stinker was like all cats a bit territorial, so Drake was sure that at least unless it had a mate, there would not be another beast around.
The Wild Cat that had been approaching suddenly stopped. It seemed to have sensed that Drake had noticed its presence.
It was true that the instant he caught sight of the beast his body had reflexively shaken a little, but he had quickly regained his composure. It was this reaction that had alerted the beast.
Drake slowly took a few steps forward while adopting a solemn attitude. This had three motives. The first was to let the beast know that he was being careful, second was to fool the Wild Cat into believing that it had not yet been noticed. As for the last reason, it was to get into a good position that would give him a better advantage to kill the Grade 1 beast.
To sum it all up, he was luring it into the trap so he could kill it.
The Wild Cat saw Drake's moves and really was convinced, so it resumed closing in on its prey. Drake noticed that it was carefully creeping up behind him and it was moving quietly not to alert him.
This resulted in a light upward arc on Drake's lip, but he quickly hid it.
Just as Drake got into position he stopped, the Wild Cat seemed to think it had been noticed so it lost patience and pounced.
RAAR!!!
Drake's eyes sharpened, and his hand immediately raised to the Katana at his back.
The Wild Cat roared as it jumped over a broken car that had its top caved in.
This is it!
CANG!
Drake pulled his Katana from its sheath and twisted his upper body. As he spun out of the way, the sharp claws of the Wild Cat flashed right by his head glinting with a cold light like sharp scythe of the grim reaper.
As the inertia of its pounce pushed it forward, its large jaws opened and it tried to bite at Drake unfortunately it was only a few inches short of reaching him.
Drake did not let it scare him. The 'Eye of Order' made it look like time had slowed down. He did not hesitate and swung his sword with as much strength as he could muster.
The cold blade of the Katana flashed and the blade slashed through the beast's neck.
THUMP!
The head of the Wild Cat was immediately separated from its body and flew up high. Fresh blood spurted out from the severed neck, as the body continued forward for a few meters before falling to the ground. After twitching for a few seconds it stopped, it was deader than a door nail.
"Huuu…" Drake took a deep breath to calm his nerves.
Ba-da! Only then did the head finally crash into the ground.
"Damn that is sharp, Drake exclaimed, "What the hell is this thing made of? It cut through with barely any resistance at all!"
The gory scene of the beheaded Cats bleeding did not shake him. He was more excited by how sharp the Katana was. He thought with how sharp it was, it could probably cut through the Wild Cat's defense with only its weight if its blade was dropped on the beast.
What he did not know was that he had only been able to cut through the beast so easily because he had attacked with the full power of a Mage with over 1200 Battle Power.
After finally regaining his composure he looked over to the fallen best.
'It's no wonder the academy allows students to give up if they can't take it anymore. With how scary the berserk aura around the magic beasts is a lot of people would be frozen after being scared shitless and would not even have the will to fight back. Also all that blood, would cause a lot of teenagers to throw up. Even those that killed before, would probably lose their lunch.' He thought.
Without delaying much he walked over to the Wild Cat's head and wit one slash, the Katana cut off the beasts left ear was cut off. This was a requirement that proved that you had killed a beast. It was common sense among Mages that hunted magic beasts.
For every beast you killed you just had to cut off the left ear to claim the points that the kill offered, if you did not have an ear to show you could not claim the bounty.
Once he was done he hastily left the area. The smell of the blood of a fallen beast would draw the attention of nearby beasts that smelled the blood. It would not be good if they rushed over and surrounded him. So he had to quickly get away, or he would be in trouble by the time other beasts rushed over.
…
In a control room somewhere, there were several personnel seated at their positions surrounding a large projection of a city that was in the middle of the room operating their computers. and several hundred screens showing people that were either hiding, running around or in fights against beasts were displayed all around the giant projection..
As you can already guess, this was the command room where all the activity in the fallen city was being monitored and the screens were showing every student that was taking part in this training session.
Every once in a while a few screens would flash red, this indicated that the student in that screen had just given up.
There were twelve Mages dressed in silver robes standing behind the large figure of Commander Seth, who stood in front of the fallen city's projection with his arms folded at his chest. His face wore an annoyed frown as he watched, and the fierce scar on his cheek made him look like he wanted to kill someone.
Every time a screen turned red, a Mage in silver would disappear. The Mage would soon appear beside the student then they would both disappear from the screen.
The twelve silver robed people were Space series affinity Mages that were responsible for escorting the students that had given up out of the fallen city.
Just then one of the personnel that was seated at a computer closer to the Projection called out. "Commander, the Survival class has only been going on for half an hour but there have already been over 450 students that have retired."
