(I forgot to put this in previous chapter… attendance please… without Gojo gif Reading Entry Is Not Allowed.)
….
Battle Beast, still grinning like a maniac, came at Gojo again, swinging his massive axe with all his might. And, just like every other time, the heavy blade stopped dead in the air, inches from Gojo, as if it had hit a solid, invisible wall.
Gojo himself was perfectly fine, but the poor penthouse was taking a real beating.
The force of Battle Beast's missed swings sent spiderweb-like cracks spreading across the already damaged walls and floor. It looked like the whole place was about to fall apart.
Gojo quickly glanced around. He needed to make sure there were no ordinary people, no civilians, nearby who might get hurt if this fight really got going.
He spotted an empty area a little way off in an instant.
Perfect.
While Battle Beast was still relentlessly swinging his axe at him, a non-stop barrage of attacks, probably hoping to somehow break through or wear down whatever weird power was protecting Gojo, Gojo suddenly vanished.
One second he was there, the next, he was gone. He reappeared a little way back, then, without wasting a moment, he fired a full-power Red blast right at Battle Beast's back.
The aim wasn't to hurt him too much, but to send him flying in a specific direction away from the injured Guardians and this crumbling building.
Battle Beast, caught completely by surprise, had no control as the massive wave of repulsive force hit him.
He was launched through the air like a giant, furry cannonball, heading exactly where Gojo wanted him to go.
Once Battle Beast was a safe distance away, Gojo turned to Robot, who was still trying to process everything. "Alright, Robot," Gojo said, his voice back to its usual casual tone.
"Now's the time. Call Cecil. Tell him to send whatever help he's got. Because you guys are in pretty bad shape, especially Samson. I'll finish this up, fast."
Gojo then started walking calmly in the direction he'd blasted Battle Beast. But before he teleported to join the fight, he made a quick detour.
He went over to where Mark, Invincible, was lying. The kid was breathing heavily, his suit torn, clearly in a lot of pain.
Gojo looked down at him, his expression a little more serious. "Kid," Gojo began, "I know you probably don't want to hear any advice from me right now. Maybe it's your teenage hormones acting up, or maybe you just hate being told what to do. But you really, really need to learn which fights you can win and which ones you should stay far away from." Gojo shook his head.
"And what is it with you always getting into so much trouble? Seriously. If the Guardians hadn't shown up today... well, let's just say your pretty little hero career would have been over. Permanently. You need to learn to tell the difference, kid. Learn to see who you're up against. That... cat... could have wiped out your entire family line if he'd really wanted to."
Invincible, still taking deep, ragged breaths, looked up at Gojo. It was pretty clear that with all his injuries, he probably wasn't hearing much of what Gojo was saying.
His eardrums might have even burst from all the impacts. All Mark could manage to get out was a garbled mumble, "Aat... rey u... syig?" which probably meant "What are you saying?"
Gojo just let out a long sigh, shaking his head. "Oh, for crying out loud. Didn't realize your eardrums were shot too. So much for my big, motivational speech. Completely wasted." He shrugged.
"Well, whatever. Help is on the way. Just try not to die before it gets here, okay?" And with that, Gojo vanished in a flicker, teleporting straight to where Battle Beast had landed, ready to finish their little "fight/chat."
…
Gojo appeared in a flash of warped space, landing lightly on his feet in a slightly less crowded area. It looked like an old industrial zone, with a few empty warehouses and lots of cracked concrete perfect for a good old-fashioned super-powered brawl with plenty of stuff to break.
Battle Beast was already getting up, shaking his head like a wet dog. A low, dangerous growl rumbled in his massive chest, but his eyes were shining with pure, unadulterated excitement, not anger. This was exactly what he lived for.
"Took you long enough, little dodger!" Battle Beast roared, his voice like an avalanche. "I was starting to think you'd actually run off! Glad to see you didn't!" He hefted his giant axe, ready for round two.
Gojo grinned. 'Alright, playtime,' he thought. He wanted to see how his own hand-to-hand skills, amped up with cursed energy, would fare against this monster, while still having his trusty Infinity on call to block the really big hits. He let his cursed energy flow through him, reinforcing his body, making him stronger, faster, tougher. Then, he charged.
Battle Beast met him with a storm of savage attacks. His axe whistled through the air, each swing aimed to cut Gojo in half.
His punches were like wrecking balls, and his kicks could shatter bone. But Gojo was a blur of fluid, graceful motion.
He'd weave under an axe swing, the blade missing by a hair's breadth thanks to Infinity.
He'd parry a brutal punch with his cursed energy-coated forearm, the impact still shaking the ground around them even if it didn't touch him.
The surrounding warehouses weren't so lucky; walls buckled and windows shattered from the shockwaves of Battle Beast's missed attacks. It was a crazy dance of destruction, with Gojo at the calm center.
Gojo was landing some hits of his own, quick jabs and kicks powered by his cursed energy.
They were fast, and they were definitely stronger than a normal human's, but against Battle Beast's sheer, overwhelming brute strength and incredible toughness, they felt… well, not as effective as Gojo might have liked.
Battle Beast barely seemed to notice them. Gojo found himself having to use a little more cursed energy than he'd planned just to keep from being completely overwhelmed by the beast's raw power.
Battle Beast roared, a sound that was half frustration, half pure joy. "Is this all you've got, little one?" he bellowed, his voice echoing.
"You dance pretty, but I feel no pain! Your taps are like flea bites! Hit me! HURT ME!" He started using the environment to his advantage, ripping up huge chunks of concrete from the ground and throwing them at Gojo like giant, deadly softballs.
He'd smash through old, rusted machinery, trying to corner Gojo or catch him off guard.
Gojo realized that Battle Beast was all about raw, overwhelming power, not much skill or cleverness.
So, Gojo decided to use that.
He faked a big attack, making it look like he was going for a powerful punch. Battle Beast, predictably, fell for it, roaring as he swung his axe in a massive, powerful arc, expecting to meet Gojo's attack head-on.
But Gojo wasn't there. He'd ducked under the swing, the wind from the axe ruffling his hair even though Infinity would have stopped it anyway.
In that split second, Gojo found himself in Battle Beast's blind spot, a perfect opening in his guard. Gojo's focus became incredibly sharp.
The flow of his cursed energy surged, becoming super precise, a huge amount of power building up in an instant.
Right in that tiny moment, Gojo channeled all that cursed energy with perfect timing and pinpoint accuracy.
A strange, dark light, a mix of black and red, flickered around his fist for just a heartbeat as he slammed it into a vulnerable spot on the Battle Beast stomach side.
The hit landed with a sound like a clap of thunder.
For a tiny instant, a flash of black lightning seemed to crackle around the point of impact, and the very air around them seemed to twist and distort.
This punch was way, way more powerful than any of Gojo's earlier, playful hits.
Battle Beast actually staggered. For the very first time in the fight, a look of genuine shock, and real, undeniable pain, flashed across his furry face.
He coughed, and a spray of blood flew from his mouth. His white fur seemed to ripple from the force of the blow.
He was sent flying several meters backward, crashing heavily into the side of a warehouse with a sickening thud.
A faint, almost unnoticeable surge of energy, a feeling of deep satisfaction, flowed through Gojo.
He felt a stronger connection, a heightened high like state, like he'd just tapped into the very core of his cursed energy.
Where Gojo's fist had hit Battle Beast, there might have been a brief, dark scorch mark on his fur, and the shockwave from the blow was strong enough to shatter the remaining windows in the nearby buildings and send even more cracks racing across the already battered ground.
Battle Beast pushed himself up from the rubble, slower this time, definitely feeling the effects of that last hit. But the fire in his eyes?
It was burning even wilder, even more ferociously than before.
He reached up a massive paw and touched the spot on his side where Gojo's Black Flash had landed. A flicker of confusion crossed his face, mixed with an almost insane level of raw excitement. This wasn't just a fun game anymore; this was a real fight.
"What... what was that?!" Battle Beast roared, his voice a mix of pain and exhilaration. He took a shaky step forward, his grin wider and more savage than ever.
"More! I actually felt that one! Give me MORE!" He wasn't scared or backing down; he was absolutely thrilled.
He was finally facing someone who could actually hurt him, someone who posed a genuine threat, even with his insides probably feeling like a mashed-up berry.
Gojo watched Battle Beast struggle to his feet, a thoughtful, almost serious expression briefly replacing his usual cocky smirk.
He realized something important. Even with a lucky hit like that Black Flash, trying to beat Battle Beast into submission using just physical attacks and basic cursed energy boosts was going to take a long time.
And it would be incredibly destructive. Battle Beast's ability to take a hit and keep going, his endurance, and his healing, were monstrous.
Plus, Gojo, despite his playful attitude, actually wanted to finish this fight without accidentally destroying half the city in the process.
A slow, dangerous smile began to spread across Gojo's face. His eyes, even hidden behind his dark sunglasses, seemed to glow with an intense, almost predatory light.
"Alright, kitty cat," Gojo said, his voice soft but carrying a new, chilling confidence. "You wanted more? You got it." He slowly raised one hand, his fingers moving to form a very specific, very iconic, and very, very dangerous-looking hand seal.
The air around them seemed to thicken, the distant sounds of the city fading away. "Let's see how you handle this."
Gojo's voice, no longer light and teasing, now resonated with an undeniable, almost overwhelming power. He took a breath, the predatory smile still in place.
