Gojo, who hadn't moved a muscle, just let a small, cool smile play on his lips. He laughed a little too, a soft, almost teasing sound. "Glad you're excited," Gojo said, his voice light and airy. "So, you ready for some real fun? How about we make this interesting? How about a little bet?"
Battle Beast's huge, furry brow furrowed at Gojo's words. "A bet?" he rumbled, his voice deep and a little confused, like a bear trying to understand a particularly tricky riddle.
"What is the point of a bet? When we fight, the one who loses... dies. That is the only outcome." He shifted his grip on his giant axe. "But," he added, a dangerous glint in his eye, "if you actually fight me, and if you somehow manage to defeat me, then I will accept whatever you want. That is the right of the winner to take everything and anything from the loser, even including their life."
Gojo just chuckled, a light, easy sound that seemed completely out of place in the middle of all the destruction. He smiled, a wide, playful grin.
"Oh, I'm pretty sure about this one," Gojo said, his voice dripping with amusement. "And if I win, I could even make you wear one of those cute pink kitty cat ear headbands for a whole day. Can you imagine? You'd look hella cute, big guy." He winked.
"And after you're done looking adorable, you'll work with me. Not for me, not above me, but with me, as equals. And hey, you can challenge me to a fight, a duel, whatever you want, anytime you feel like losing again. Sounds good?"
Battle Beast let out another booming laugh, this one sounding genuinely amused. He casually rested his massive axe on his shoulder.
"Didn't I just say the loser's life belongs to the winner?" he growled, though there was a hint of something like respect in his tone now. "Enough talk. Let this battle begin! Make me feel alive! Quench this thirst of mine for a real fight!"
Gojo nodded. He thought to himself, 'Okay, using Infinite Void right now would just end this instantly. Too easy, no fun and he wouldn't probably like it. So, let's save that for the end.' A wide smile stretched across Gojo's face.
He did a little leg stretch, then stretched out his arms, a casual, almost lazy movement. Then he stood up straight, his posture relaxed but ready, and beckoned Battle Beast forward with a flick of his fingers. "Come on then, kitty cat."
But just as Battle Beast was about to leap, Gojo suddenly held up a hand, like he was calling a timeout.
This made Battle Beast frown again, clearly impatient. Gojo turned his head and looked towards where Robot lay, not completely smashed but definitely not in good shape.
"Hey, Robot, my pal!" Gojo called out, his voice cheerful. "Can you do me a solid? Contact Cecil. Tell him not to send any more heroes here, not for a little while anyway. And definitely tell him not to interfere, unless he wants to find out what it feels like to have a very angry, very powerful cat-man (that's Battle Beast, in case he's slow) rearrange his skull. Got it?"
With that done, Gojo turned back to Battle Beast, who was practically vibrating with anticipation. Gojo got back into his relaxed, ready stance.
Battle Beast didn't wait for a second invitation. He let out a deafening roar and launched himself at Gojo, his huge axe held in both hands, swinging down in a devastating arc aimed right at Gojo's head.
The axe slammed down... and stopped. Or rather, it hit Gojo's Infinity. The impact was so incredibly hard that the floor beneath Gojo didn't just crack, it exploded downwards, creating a small crater.
The sheer force of the blow sent a shockwave outwards, blasting away nearby rubble and debris.
The air pressure alone was enough to make the other fallen Guardians, even Invincible, flinch.
Gojo, standing in the middle of it all, didn't even budge. He just laughed, a bright, excited sound. "Not bad, kitty! Not bad at all!"
Battle Beast was practically vibrating with excitement. Gojo had blocked his full-power axe swing without even breaking a sweat!
This was it, a real fight! He roared, a sound that shook the already damaged penthouse, and charged again.
But Gojo, instead of meeting the charge head-on, decided to have a little fun.
As Battle Beast came at him like a furry, white freight train, swinging his axe in huge, angry arcs and throwing punches that could shatter concrete, Gojo just… danced around him.
He'd lean back slightly, and an axe swing would miss by a hair. He'd take a tiny sidestep, and a massive fist would smash into the floor where he'd just been.
At one point, Gojo even let out a very loud, very fake yawn. "Honestly, big fella," Gojo said, his voice full of mock concern, "your form is, like, a little sloppy today. You feeling okay? Need a water break?"
Gojo wasn't using any of his big, flashy moves, no Red or Blue yet, but his Infinity was definitely on, working quietly in the background.
Every single one of Battle Beast's attacks axe swings, punches, even a headbutt attempt stopped cold just inches away from Gojo.
It was like Gojo was surrounded by an invisible, unbreakable bubble. Battle Beast was getting more and more frustrated.
He was hitting nothing, and it was driving him nuts.
The penthouse around them, however, was taking a serious beating. Walls were getting new cracks with every missed blow, the floor was a mess of craters, and bits of debris were flying everywhere. Gojo himself didn't have a single hair out of place.
Machine head shouted, "hey hey… I promised to pay you if you defeat or kill them not to destroy my property damn it."
Battle Beast didn't listen and let out another furious roar. He was getting angrier, and his attacks were becoming even more destructive.
He started grabbing huge chunks of broken concrete from the floor and hurling them at Gojo.
He swung his axe in wider, more powerful sweeps, trying to just overwhelm Gojo with sheer, raw force, hoping to smash through whatever weird power was protecting him. He was showing off his incredible physical strength, a true beast in every sense of the word.
Then, as Battle Beast lunged with a particularly wild swing, Gojo, with a perfectly timed, almost "accidental" move, stuck his foot out.
Battle Beast, caught off guard, tripped over it. As the giant cat-man stumbled, Gojo gave him a tiny, almost playful push with a super-light version of his Red technique.
It wasn't strong enough to push him outside the bulding, but it sent Battle Beast staggering a few steps backward, completely losing his balance.
Gojo put a hand to his mouth, feigning surprise. "Oh, my goodness! Clumsy me! Or… was that you, big guy? Hard to tell when you're flailing around like that."
Battle Beast was now absolutely furious, but before he could explode, Gojo decided the "testing him out" part of the fight was over.
In a blink or maybe it was more like a flicker, as if space itself bent around him Gojo was suddenly right in front of Battle Beast.
He wasn't just dodging anymore. Gojo's whole body, especially his hands, seemed to shimmer with a faint, almost invisible energy.
He moved with blinding speed and landed a few quick, sharp hits. A lightning-fast jab to Battle Beast's furry snout.
A quick, stinging kick to his shin. A precise chop to the side of his thick neck. None of the hits were strong enough to do any real damage, but they were fast, and they landed.
It was enough to make Battle Beast finally realize that Gojo wasn't just playing around defensive anymore. He was fighting back.
And surprisingly, this didn't make Battle Beast angrier. Instead, a wide, almost terrifying grin spread across his face, showing all his sharp teeth.
"So!" Battle Beast rumbled, his voice filled with a savage joy. "No more just dodging with your strange powers, eh? Good! GOOD! Let's enjoy this! Show me more! Show me what you can really do!"
Gojo frowned, tilting his head. "Hey, I know I'm still learning many thing you love battles feom what I have seen, but just tell me… you're not, like, a masochist cat or something, right? 'Cause if you are, I gotta say, I'm feeling a little weird about playing a part in your... uh... particular hobby."
Of course, Gojo was just messing with him. He knew exactly why Battle Beast craved these kinds of fights, why he wanted opponents strong enough to push him, strong enough to maybe even kill him.
