Chapter 97
I held Moodrender high above my head, staring at the blade with a sense of irritation and relief. It had actually decided to come out of the sheath without throwing any more tantrums. I could feel it humming faintly through the hilt like it was stretching after a long nap, eager and ready to cleave through things.
I barely had a second to enjoy the sensation before the rats lunged again. Squeaking in fury with their many teeth barred.
I swung blindly. The sword moved so smoothly, so cleanly, it felt like I was slicing through mist. One rat launched toward my face, and Moodrender caught it mid-air, slicing it clean down the middle. No resistance. With a whoosh, two slightly confused halves of a rodent tumbled to the ground, joining the growing pile of dead rats.
Another tried to jab my ankle with what looked like a toothpick-sized fork. I swung my sword downwards, delivering it to the same halved fate as its companion before.
