The door of Room 17 creaked open.
Lord Noah stepped out, now properly dressed in a tailored suit, adjusting his collar with a scowl. A moment later, Charles followed, straightening his cuffs. His face was blank, but his movements were slightly stiff.
"You just destroyed my ass," Noah muttered bitterly, glaring at Charles.
Charles sighed. "You're the one who wanted it."
Noah scoffed. "Oh, dear brother… don't be so cruel now."
Charles's eyes twitched with annoyance. "Fine. I won't."
"Good." Noah flashed a charming smile. "Then I'll be going."
Charles nodded. "So will I."
Together, they walked downstairs, their posture noble but slightly tense. The golden lights of the ballroom flickered as music continued to play and guests mingled.
William spotted them immediately. He moved quickly toward Charles.
"Father! There you are—I've been looking everywhere for you."
Before Charles could respond, Noah stepped forward with a mischievous grin. "Oh, you must be William."
