The sound of carriage wheels slowed as they arrived at Lord Everett's mansion. One by one, the family stepped out, greeted by the soft glow of lanterns lining the grand entrance. The towering gates creaked open as Everett led the way inside.
"Please," Everett said warmly, "feel free to make yourselves at home."
"Thank you," Seraphina replied gracefully, stepping inside.
From the top of the staircase, a young lady descended with delicate steps. She was quite young—barely more than a girl—with soft features and a kind smile. Holding her hand was a baby girl, big-eyed and curious.
The young woman's smile widened when she saw Seraphina.
"Oh my," Seraphina said, approaching her gently, "I heard you gave birth recently. How are you now?"
"I did," the young woman nodded, smiling down at the baby. "I'm doing well, thank you."
Seraphina looked at the child with soft eyes. "May I hold her?"
"Of course," the young mother said, handing the baby over gently.
