Walter looked the man in the eye and said firmly, "From now on, be careful."
The man nodded, relaxing slightly. "I will. Don't worry."
Walter gave him a final look before heading back to the party. Downstairs, William was engaged in conversation with a few noblemen when something caught his eye—the upstairs room. A flicker of memory crossed his mind.
Earlier… I saw Walter and Juliet standing near that door… something's not right.
"Excuse me," William said politely to the men before turning and making his way toward the stairs.
He walked quietly down the corridor and approached the room. His fingers brushed the doorknob. Just as he was about to turn it, a waiter appeared from the hallway.
"Sir, do you need something?" the waiter asked politely.
William straightened and replied coolly, "No, I don't."
The waiter nodded and walked off.
William turned back, slowly opened the door, and stepped inside. The room was empty. Quiet. Still.
No one?
