Astraea's POV
I could feel Draven's stare boring into the back of my skull as I pulled the blanket up to Zephyra's chin. The girl was finally still, her breathing soft and even, and her brows relaxed in a way I hadn't seen in the last hour.
You'd think I'd feel relieved that she was finally calm and asleep, but all I felt was the intensity and the guilt that this was happening to her as a result of my mistake. It was settling deeper and deeper into my bones as I looked at her sleeping form.
It was still morning. Early, in fact, but the day had already started with screaming, running, and a very real threat that I might've completely shattered a human being's mind, and now, here I was, tucking said human into bed like that would somehow undo the damage that I'd done.
"Go on," I said, my voice dull as I stared down at Zephyra's face. "Say what you need to say, Draven. I promise I won't stop you. Forget I'm royalty, and just curse at me already."
