Chapter 8 - Episode 8:Embers of Memory

Episode 8: Embers of Memory

The tournament was officially paused.

The arena lay silent. Unused matches postponed. The stone pillars still bore the scorch marks from Bobby's unleashed resonance. Yet no one spoke of the tournament now — they spoke only of him.

A boy with no past.

No clan.

But a flame no one could explain.

☀️ The sun seeps gently through the infirmary window. Dust dances in golden rays. Cloth rustles as Bobby slowly opens his eyes.

His body aches. His head pounds. But he breathes.

He's alive.

Sitting beside him is a tall man in deep crimson robes. Eyes like burning coals, heavy with history.

Garron Blaze — leader of the Flame Clan.

Garron (gently): "Hey kid. You okay now?"

Bobby (hoarse): "Yeah… kind of."

A pause. Garron leans forward, voice low, as if brushing past smoke.

Garron: "Do you remember anything? About your parents? Or where you lived before you came to the village?"

Bobby's gaze drifts toward the floor.

Bobby: "Besides my name… I don't remember anything else."

Garron leans back slowly. His mind churns. A boy with the blood of fire, carrying the Ignis flare — yet not a single trace in the archives, not even whispers on the wind.

Garron: "Where have you been living all this time?"

Bobby: "Nowhere, really. I don't have a home. I just live… wherever I want."

Garron's brows knit. Concern flashes in his eyes — not pity, but something heavier.

He stands.

He extends a hand.

Garron: "Come with me. Stay at my place."

Bobby immediately shakes his head.

Bobby: "No. I'm fine here. I don't want to go anywhere."

He shifts, attempting to rise… but his legs fail him.

He stumbles—

Garron catches him mid-fall, steadying him with one arm.

Garron (smirking): "You can't even stand up for a second. You need rest. Come to my home. Stay the night. When you feel better, you're free to leave anytime. I won't stop you."

Bobby blinks.

Then nods… just once.

Bobby (quietly): "…Okay."

Garron offers a rare smile — a flicker of warmth that most warriors in the Flame Clan have never seen.

Together, they walk through the dusk-lit village. Lanterns flicker to life, fireflies twinkling like embers in the maple trees. The road is quiet. Still. Peaceful.

They arrive at Garron's home — a traditional wooden estate nestled beneath crimson leaves, wind chimes whispering like old stories.

Garron (calling inside): "Honey, I'm home!"

️ Ryn (from inside, shouting): "You idiot! Why are you so late again?!"

Footsteps. Then —

Ryn emerges, eyes sharp, ready to scold — until she sees the boy beside her husband.

️ Ryn (softening): "Where have you been until now…?"

Garron (grinning): "You know this kid, right?"

️ Ryn: "Yeah, he's the one from the tournament, isn't he?"

Garron: "That's right. He's going to stay with us for a while."

Her features shift from fire to kindness.

️ Ryn (smiling warmly): "That's great. Welcome home, Bobby."

Those words.

"Welcome home."

They echo in Bobby's chest.

But before he can answer—

Footsteps.

Lara steps into the room. Her gaze sharpens the moment she sees him.

Lara: "What's he doing here?"

Bobby looks at her — silent, unreadable.

Garron: "I brought him here to stay with us."

Lara (raising her voice): "What? Why does he have to stay with us?!"

️ Ryn (sternly): "Lara, that's no way to talk to someone."

Lara: "But Mom—"

️ Ryn: "Go to your room. Now."

Lara's face twists in frustration. She huffs, shoots Bobby one last glance, and stomps up the stairs, her presence trailing sparks of emotion behind her.

Bobby remains silent.

️ Ryn (softly): "Come, Bobby. Let me show you your room."

He follows her down a quiet hallway. She slides open a door to a neatly prepared guest room.

️ Ryn: "This is where you'll be staying."

He enters, takes a seat on the bed, and stares out the window.

Bobby (thinking):

"She doesn't even know me… and still, she smiled and welcomed me into her home."

Elsewhere…

A soft breeze sways the grass outside the village.

On a lone hill bathed in orange sunset, Lian sits — arms resting on his knees, eyes cast toward the horizon.

️ Lian (thinking): "Why did I say those things to him…? I don't understand what happened to me… Did I lose control?"

Footsteps rustle behind him.

Zane Vey, the village leader, approaches quietly.

Zane: "Hey, son. Thinking about the fight in the tournament?"

️ Lian: "Yeah… I still don't understand what happened to me back there. I never wanted to hurt Bobby. I just… snapped. I didn't know what to do."

Zane: "You know, Lian… you're so kind-hearted. Way different from how I was when I was your age."

️ Lian (blinks): "What? How am I different from you, Father?"

Zane sits beside him, eyes lost in memory.

Zane: "Maybe it's the right time for me to share something with you.

When I was a kid… I didn't care how others felt. I picked fights just to prove I was stronger. Never listened to anyone. Let my pride and power rule me.

Until one day… a guy taught me something I never forgot:

Being true to myself — even around others — is more important than pretending to be something I'm not."

Lian looks down, quiet.

️ Lian: "But… I've never acted like that before… not around people."

Zane chuckles softly.

Zane: "Maybe not yet. But it'll take time. One day, you'll understand."

️ Lian: "Why? Why does it take time to understand something like that?"

Zane: "Because, Lian… only time can give you the answer."

The wind stirs the tall grass. Father and son sit in stillness, shadows stretching gently behind them.

Back at the Blaze estate…

Ryn returns to Bobby's room.

️ Ryn: "Bobby, come on. Let's have dinner."

Bobby: "I'm not hungry. I can eat later."

His stomach growls — loud.

Bobby (embarrassed): "It's nothing…"

️ Ryn (smiling): "You can't sleep on an empty stomach. And don't think of yourself as a guest — you're like family here."

The words freeze him.

"Like family."

Bobby (quietly): "…Okay."

️ He joins them at the table.

Garron and Ryn are already eating. Lara sits stiffly, not speaking.

Bobby tries to use the chopsticks… but his injured hand shakes. He fumbles.

Ryn notices.

She sets her own food down and quietly walks over.

️ Ryn (kneeling): "Here. Let me feed you."

Bobby: "No… I can eat myself."

Lara watches… but says nothing.

️ Ryn: "Look at your hand — you can't eat with that. So let me feed you."

Bobby: "But—"

️ Ryn: "Hush. You're not going to argue. Just eat."

She gently begins feeding him.

Bobby (thinking):

"This is the first time… someone's cared for me.

Someone's worried about me.

Someone stayed…"

His eyes begin to water.

A smile — small, honest — touches his lips.

️ Ryn (noticing): "Hey… is it too hot?"

Bobby (quickly): "No. It's nothing."

That night, in a room that still smells of maple wood and fresh rice…

Bobby lies on the bed.

No fear.

Just… warmth.

And the gentle echoes of family.

Elsewhere…

Somewhere near the outskirts of the village…

Shade stands alone in the shadows, bruised from his last fight. His eyes are fixed on his trembling hand.

He clenches it into a fist.

A brief flash — a glimpse of Kael from their match, rising slowly, battered but unbroken.

Shade (thinking):

"That move… it should've taken him down."

"Why didn't it?"

He steps forward — then another. Each strike he throws becomes faster, stronger, angrier.

The ground crunches beneath his feet.

Shade (thinking):

"I was too slow. Too soft."

He leaps, spins, and cuts the air with a surge of dark energy.

Shade (gritting his teeth):

"Next time… whoever stands in front of me…

I'll crush them."

From a distance, a figure watches.

Vex (smiling faintly): "Go on, son… Become even stronger. Because the true war... hasn't even begun."

The shadows gather around Shade as he disappears into the night — no longer hiding, but hunting.
